Willis on Madden

Submitted by FNN Staff on Friday, 8 February 200841 Comments

According to Patrick Willis, the Defensive Rookie of the Year who was also given Weapon status in Madden straight out the box, he’s been a Madden gamer for years, and before the event, told me he planned to play as the 49ers, even if he thinks his character is a little too slow in the game.

“I think they could’ve done my speed better,” Willis says. “They got me slower than some of the guys who I know I ran the 40 faster. I guess when you’re a rookie, it’s not about what you do at your pro day, it’s about the combine. It’s all good. I know they’ll bump me up when the new game comes out.”

And with Vince Young jumping from rookie star to cover star, is Willis next in line to see his image on the box?

“Heck no,” he tells me with a laugh. “I’m straight with the cover. I don’t mind playing the game and being a spokesman for it, but as far as being on the cover, I’ve heard too much about that curse. I’m good, man. I want no part of it.”

What Willis does want is that Madden Bowl trophy. That, and well, to deliver some virtual pain.

“I’ve been a Madden fan since way back, and before that, I was on that Tecmo Bowl. Played as the Raiders all the time. But I’ve been playing Madden since ‘98 on Super Nintendo when all you heard was ‘Ugh! Ugh!’ throughout the game. I’m still a big fan of the ambulance. I just wish they made it more real now,” he says. “I want to hit people so hard that they get hurt bad. Every time I play, they sprain their toe. I want them to hurt their neck or break their arm or something more painful. I wish they had something outrageous if you get a good hit stick on someone. You get some good hits now, they might fumble, but I want to hurt them.”

Madden is amazing, Willis was overall 82 at the beginning of the season, but EA updated his stats through the season, and he is overall 94, that is crazy! He is so damn good in Madden now. His speed is 89, I think it should be at least 90 or 91, Manny Lawson has 90 speed and he runs a .2 seconds slower than Willis! I would love to get Quentin Groves, and see his speed on madden he would probaly have a 89 to 90 speed range as well. Dereck Smith in Madden is a disease, he has 74 speed, and he can’t do shit, just like in real life! Micael Lewis (BIG) was overall 84, but he has been updated over the season to 86 now. Clements dropped one point to 92, Dougals went up to 86, and Young is 88 overall (DEs). Aubrayo Franklin is 79 overall, and Soap is 77 overall with 95 strength! Lelie is great in Madden, but in Madden u don’t have to worry about him running the wrong routes, he still has a crappy rating. Battle is overall 80, and Jackson is like 86 or 87 overall. I like to use Willis and Lawson’s speed to my advantage, I blitz Willis, and since he is so fast it can be an easy sack, and Lawson I can drop back into coverage and cover WRs/TEs. Lawson also can blitz right through. Banta Cain has 79 speed, and he is overall 79, he ia below average. Walt Harris’s speed is only 88, sucks because people take their Bernard Berrians with 97 speed and burn me wide open for touchdowns. I hope we can get Dominique Rogers Cromartie, he will at least have 92 to 94 speed. Cromartie is also a great kick returner.

I play online a lot, and franchise mode is beastly, I can edit the Niners and make them good myself! Instead of Nolan decidng who to start it’s you, that’s an automatic upgrade to the team! LOL

Dude, I thought I was the only one. Even though the 9ers are rated 76 on madden I fucking desroy everybody with them. Patrick Willis is a fucking animal on Madden. If Nolan let me call the shots like on Madden we would have 8 superbowls. If only it could be that easy! What system do you play on? I play on 360. My name on there is IKICKMIDGETS. I don’t play much online cause the lag sucks but on career or just playing my friends I make them eat there own shit. Send me a request one day if your wanting a challenge.

Hostler got signed by the Ravens to be there WR’s coach. I cant wait to see how much the Raven WR’s suck next season.

  • ninersgold said:

LMAO the Ravens Wrs already suck, now they have Hoslter? Watch he is going to be amazing though, just like every other OC that Nolan hires, that would be hilarious. Hostler knows nothing about WRs why would he be hired as a WR coach?

What amazes me is how long the press is riding out this Shaun Hill thing. WE SIGNED HIM….OH MY GOD!!!!! Quit writing about it. They are writing so many columns on it that you would think we grabbed Peyton Manning or something…….let it GO!!! He is going to be our back up QB. I AM glad we resigned him, but the niners were expecting to get him anyway. Let’s talk about resigning some of our d linemen. I would REALLY like to get Jared Allen….if we did we could put him on weakside and move Ray McDonald over to strong side. Then we bring in Briggs…..pick up a corner in the draft and the niners will be looking GREAT on D. No, I’m not saying get a corner with our first pick….it seems like this is a corner DEEP draft. However, if someone like Talib is available (unlikely) with our second pick it might be wise. Walt Harris isn’t going to last much longer (two years probably) and I am NOT sold on Spencer. Spencer is HORRIBLE in man to man. Plus, that corner we drafted last year had a major knee injury. Who knows if he is going to come back to the niners as the same guy?

  • Frankthetank said:

ya it is a real deep corner class but if we dont get a solid corner like Talib or cromartie than we should wait till the fourth round and get Justin King out of Penn state. he had a down year but was amazing last year and he is tall and fast.

  • Ryan the 1st said:

I’m on the same page with you on that one. Justin King WOULD BE a steal. Last year, I was thinking we were loaded at corner. Now, I think we need to seek out a starter for after next season because Walt Harris isn’t going to last much longer…..although I wish he would because he is really aggressive.

  • ninersgold said:

I’m a Penn State fan, but King would be like a faster Shantae Spencer. I would like our drfat lik this…

    1st round
    Dominique Rogers Cromartie CB

Second round (trade next years second round and 5th round for 2nd)
James Hardy WR 6′7″ a lot like Plaxico Burress
Quentin Groves ROLB with 4.4 speed

    Thrid Round
Tavares Gooden or Beau Bell, either would play ILB next to Willis.
Beau Bell is 6′3″ 250 pounds, but not as athletically talented as Gooden. Gooden is 6′2″ 238, he needs to put on 10 pounds to have the perfect size for the TED linebacker, he could easily do that he has the right body type to continue to grow bigger.

Fourth round (trade this years 6th and seventh for another 4th pick)
DT Athyba Rubin 6′3″ 324 pounds, size for NT similar to Wilfork’s
    WR Will Franklin- http://www.gametap.com/home/read/article/2840

    5th round
FB Jacob Hester, Gore surpisingly is not a good goal line back, Hester is great at that (look at LSU game versus Florida Gators), and Hester can block, Norris has been missing more blocks as he has been getting older. Hester can also catch the ball, and he has good speed, Martz would be able to use him as a WR/TE/goaline runner.

We won’t need or have our 6th-7th round picks, if you noticed we have selected 7 players, just as if we would have had all 7 rounds, except we have more talent. The Cromartie pick is probally less and less likely as he is raising his stock, but he stil does have his negatives from his regular games he played. Others will look at that, and he could fall to us, and knowing Nolan he would know that Cromartie is worth the first round pick, despite lack of need at the position.

It would be nice if our draft went down like this, but I don’t think it will happen. I think my trades make sense, except maybe trade next years 2nd rounder and 4th instead of 5th, cause I don’t think teams would trade there second for our second pick next year and fifth next year.

    FA acquisitions
    Bernard Berrian WR
    Jordan Gross RT

Mover Joe Staley to LT, mover Snyder to LG, have Jordan Gross who is a RT with overall 93 in Madden with 95 pass blocking and 92 run blocking in Madden LOL, I’m just saying I want this team to improve in Madden as well.

    Our offensive line would be…
    LT Staley
    LG Snyder
    C Eric Heitman
    RG David Baas
    RT Jordan Gross
    …. stacked!

Snyder is natural at playing LG so he will be even better, and him and Staley are best friends, so they know each other very well and they will play next to each other, which is important for an O-line, look at the Pats O-line, they are all white rednecks, that are friends, they are very good when they play together, because they know each others tendecies, who they will block, so they won’t make as many mistakes, as we did.

This is the off season that we need if we want to have a 11 win season.

  • ninersgold said:

We need to Athyba Rubin, he would be a steal, and also, it looks like we won’t be signing Sopoaga back to the team. Which is really stupid, either Nolan must like Franklin that much, or he saw this thread and he knows that Athyba Rubin would be our version of Vince Wilfork of the Patriots.

  • vagtastic voyage said:

don’t worry Willis Adrian Peterson will probably be on the cover next year.

  • Dan said:

Ninersgold, just want to say, that offseason would be perfect!… I Don’t know why Cromartie would be so unatainable though? I understand he put up a great Senior bowl performance, but I still think of him as a late 1st early 2nd guy. And personally, I’d like to see a late round QB being taken. Anyway, Love the O-line, I think thats right on the dot, just say’n good job!

  • ninersgold said:

    Thank you Dan.

  • ninersgold said:

Holy… I have a feeling that even teams will have to thinka bout taking Chris Johnson over McFadden, he runs a 4.2 40 yards dash, he returns everything for touchdowns, he can do it all. He can run a 4.22-4.31 40 yard dash! His stock will definetly go up after the combine though, even scout.com has his 40 time listed as 4.29! I wish we could get him, but he will have a great chance of being taken in the first after his combine, right now he is probaly projected as a 2nd-3rd round pick, he would be a great backup to Gore, but he will probaly be an amazing starter somewehre else.

    http://blogs.chron.com/fanblogtexans/2008/01/2008_nfl_free_agents_bring_you_1.html

Great list of free agents, and updates on if they will retire, or if they have signed an extension.

Jordan Gross is the best RT available, and he is a former 1st round pick, the Panthers will not be able to afford him, so I know we can afford him, because we have 32 mil in our cap right now. Bernard Berrian is the second best WR available (Randy Moss), and he would be a native californian and he is a Martz WR with track star speed, good chance we go after him. I don’t think Briggs is big enought to play ILB next to Willis, it is completley different, he will have to take on o-linemen, instead of tackling RBs. He wouldn’t fit our defense. Tavares Gooden or Beau Bell would fit the bill perfectly (from the draft).

This is excellent free agency tracker, it ranks which players are the best, and you can selct it by posisiton.

  • Ryan the 1st said:

Ninersgold, I like the draft break down….it makes sense. I just hope the niners know what they are doing by letting ALL of their quality free agents test the market before we even sign them.

  • ninersgold said:

Look how many good corners are available!…

CB 1 Marcus Trufant UFA 5-11/199 Seattle 5 years pro
CB 2 Asante Samuel UFA 5-10/185 New England 5 years pro
CB 3 Drayton Florence UFA 6-0/198 San Diego 5 years pro
CB 4 Eric Green RFA 5-11/194 Arizona 3 years pro
CB 5 Jacques Reeves UFA 5-11/192 Dallas 4 years pro
CB 6 Nnamdi Asomugha UFA 6-2/210 Oakland 5 years pro

I like Nnamdi Asomugha the best, he is ridiculously good, he is overall 97 in Madden! Nolan should be looking at these guys, because Cromartie is going to probally have a great combine and run a 4.3 40 yrd dash, he will be picked probaly be the Cowboys. But It would be great to have Asomugha or Asante Samuel too. Asante is short, but he creates turnovers, Asomugha is tall, fast, this seaqson he didn’t have a lot of turnovers like he did the year before, but he shuts down completley, you will be lucky to complete a pss to the WR he is covering. Asomugha is from Cal too. Our secondary would be unstoppable if we could have Asomugha and Nate Clements. But than who should we pick with our first round pick? James Hardy if his stock goes up? All i know is we need to replace Walt Harris sooner than later.

  • Ryan the 1st said:

I am with you about Asomugha….I would rather have him than Samuel at this point because Nhamdi just does his job and will be a hair less expensive. That being said, the Raiders WILL play tag with him. But, I would not mind if we went after a Trufant or Samuel….the thing is Samuel has been very public about how he is going to want Nate Clements money. I don’t see McNolan paying TWO corners that type of money. I think we would be better suited to get Briggs AND Trufant. Reeves I’m not sold on or Florence….I think we should leave them alone. I’m not saying they aren’t talented, but I would rather go through the draft than get them. Nolan knows secondary players. If WE DO get an Asomugha or Trufant then GOOD LUCK passing against us. Hardy’s stock is rising like you forsaw long ago….that sucks because I would love to have him. I see us grabbing Manningham because he fits the bill as a Martz receiver…..not too tall (6′0″) and is really shifty with nice moves……However, he doesn’t have the best hands. I’d rather have Hardy. But, Hardy is going to the combine for sure and HE WILL BLOW IT UP!!!

  • Ryan the 1st said:

No insult intended, but we need to get used to the fact that the niners might NOT actually get a WR with their first pick…..they might go o line or d line…..hell, if Quentin Groves is available they might snag him. I hope they pull some more draft magic…..that is one thing the niners have been notorious for in recent years. It would be wise to make some moves in this draft. The first day is LOADED with talent.

  • Merlot Stain said:

I hate to break it to you guys but we have solid cornerbacks!!!I think Walt still has some left in the tank.Yes Cromartie is a stud and I would be stoked if we get him but to able to be a shutdown defense we need a solid D-line.So I’m thinkin we should go D-lineman 1st round.I wish there was some way we could get our first round pick back to get a badass lineman like Trevor Laws,Cedric Ellis,or Glenn Dorsey.

  • Merlot Stain said:

by the way Gold can you check any mock drafts and see if any Trevor Lwas is available at our pick?

  • Merlot Stain said:

    *if Trevor Laws

  • ninersgold said:

Trevor Laws has like a 90% chance of being available for us in the second round.

  • samra said:

I think we need a pass rusher more than anything…we need to get our defense off of the feild

  • MSouza said:

From the ranking I see Trevor Laws is a late second early third projection. I think we’ll have a shot at either Kentwan Balmer or Pat Sims. Whether or not they are the best players on the board remains to be seen though.

  • Merlot Stain said:

thanks guys.If we could get Hardy and Laws that we be a pimp.

  • Merlot Stain said:

    1st Hardy
    2nd Laws
    3rd OL
    4th Will Franklin

……..Trent Green was released should we take a look at him if he doesn’t hang it up?I mean just for depth at QB.

  • ninerfaithful said:

yeah we should look at green he could help mentor alex and shaun in martz offense since he was with martz back in st louis could be a good thing …

also i was reading that redskins new head coach is interested in taking dilfer on as a back up to jason cambell

  • Dan O said:

We Need to draft a Receiever Hardy is a poor mans version of plaxico and is not a deep threat which is what we need Caldwell might be on the board and was at the senior bowl we all know we love those guys. Colt brennan will be drafted by the niners in the later rounds like it or not and we will sign one big name free agent hopefully Berrrian, Gross or Briggs i would be happy with any one of them

  • Dan O said:

trent green is garbage theres a reason dolphins released him….. you dont think they have young QB’s that need mentoring let the coaches do the mentoring we need three QB’s that all want to start not mentor

  • Dan O said:

oh and by the may we will not draft a CB in the early rounds or sign a big name free agent i dont care who wants to come to SF the niners will not pay another corner that much money which would be demanded

  • Dave said:

I don’t care if Willis makes the Madden cover. As long as it’s not Tom Brady I’m cool.

  • Dave said:

I actually crashed the postgame press conference of Super Bowl and interviewed Patriot and Giants players. Check out Tom Brady’s face when I ask him about the Manning brothers. Hilarious. http://www.davesdetours.com
