Brooks was originally selected by the Bengals in the third round of the 2006 supplemental draft. But the Bengals gave up on him after only two seasons, cutting him after 2008 training camp.
The 49ers claimed LB Ahmad Brooks off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals. To make room on the 53-man roster for Brooks the 49ers waived Derek Smith Jr. LB Dontarrious Thomas.
