  1. knowing Nolan Hill probably wont be back to make All you Smith fans happy.

  2. Only had time to read the first article for now…was hoping to get the two names…LOL

  3. I THINK THAT PATRICK WILLIS SHOULD NOT ONLY GET DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR BUT ALSO OVERALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR AND ROOKIE OF THE YEAR! YES EVEN OVER THAT VIKINGS RB!!! I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS BEING UNREALISTIC.

  4. people need to stop giving hill so much credit when he scored the td’s when the drives started within the bucs red zone. if smith was in their he would of probably scored 2 or 3 tds to or giving it to gore.

  5. James Hardy is 6′7″ and has amazing hands and strength. If he doesn’t go to NFL this year, we better suck next year to get him. he will probaly a number 1 pick, if he comes next year instead.

  6. Even if we don’t get him their are a lot of other good recievers this year to draft, just not as amazing as Hardy.

  7. Check these out…

  8. Your comment is awaiting moderation

  9. No. If Smith was in at qb, we’d have gotten 3 field goals. How many TD’s did smith throw in the games he was healthy? Exactly.

  10. Hey Pundit dont get ahead of urself Hill beat the Bengals and Tampa Bays second team defense lets see what he does against Clevland. I like Hill but im not handing over the keys to the starting Qb role just yet. Nolan should be fired still he messes up in game management and at the end of the game why were we throwing the ball?

  11. One thing in common with all the Smith haters is that they think they know shit about football but all they know are stats. If you care so much about stats then go watch baseball. Football is much bigger than stats.

  12. Ok, Nolan’s Image is More Important Than Victory, I know stats arent everything, but how well has smith done for us in the almost 2 and a half years that he’s been here. 4-12, 7-9, shitty numbers, overthrows everybody even without a hurt shoulder.

  13. niner_junkie… were those numbers you just posted? what a great response to my comment about stats.

Oh and yes he overthrows, but every qb throws errant passes. As i recall, his overthrows are often to the sidelines and they haven’t been picked. the only one i can remember that wasn’t a sideline throw was last year when it seemed like him and A. Bryant weren’t on the same page. i hope you’ve got to catch some Bengals game this year because Carson Palmer made way more/worse throws. Think Palmer’s a bust?

Oh yeah and 4-12 - he didn’t start every game, and he was a rookie on a horrible team. He won two at the end of that season. 7-9, that really isn’t bad when you consider how untalented our team was and how horrible our defense in the first half of last season. This year, 2-1 when healthy… how have we done without him? Don’t talk about Shaun Hill because he hasn’t played against any competition that has anything to play for, or that was any good. And his stat line was bad against Tampa’s 1st stringers. He plays a bad Cleveland D this week who has no incentive to win. But thanks for those stats. You made yourself look smart.

  14. Once again people in case you missed my thoughts 3 threads ago, it’s unfair to compare Hill to Smith!

    Hill Vs Smith
C’mon…can we really compare these two????!!!
I love what Hill has been doing.
But Dion Sanders remarks a week ago about Hill were stupid.
Hill didn’t have Mr Glass blocking at Tackle. Nor was Bass out there. And Allen was looking pathetic then too.
We only had ONE OC then, not two, so the plays were totally different!
If Smith’s injury is as bad as he says, then who can throw in that much pain?
I salute Hill and his great quick releases, decisions, and playing through the finger. Keep both and let them compete next year. After year two’s improvement, I’m not ready to give up on Smith…..

and Prevent Defense on the last play? Nice…all that does is prevent teams from winning… RUSH 4 at least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you Santa for Willis….

  15. Medford T.B second defense didn’t come in till the second half. Also TB second defense is alot better than the Rams,N.O and ATL defenses period!! A. SMith is a backup at best for the next two yrs at least. Doesn’t have the poise or the savvy that S. Hill displays. Smith has happy feet. Never sets them always looks like he has no pocket presense.

  16. NINER’S DEFENSE!!!

Was kicking thier asses all over the field. Very physical, how many Buc’s where helped off the field? Two or Three and Garcia almost got his head taken off by Willis. Gruden did the smart thing taking his players out after he knew they where in for a long day. Niners where way more physical than the Buc’s.

  17. why cant you guys be happy that we have two quarterbacks?Whoever said we have given up on Smith? No one has said that Hill is the starter for 2008.

  18. Well apparently those stats are important. We’ll see who’s the starter next year. then we can talk

  19. alex Smith stats:(7 games) Cmp:94 ATT:193 YDS:914 TD:2 INT:4 games won:2

    Shaun Hill stats:(3 games)
    CMP:54 ATT:79 PCT:68.4 YDS:501 AVG:6.3 TD:5 INT:2
    games won:2

  20. “Smith has happy feet.”

No one complained when Jeff Garcia displayed “happy feet”

  21. thats because garcia actually knew how to run our offense unlike smith now he have another who can and thats shaun hill baby!!

  22. Can’t wait till the competition next year, it’s gonna be intense! I also think we are going to have major changes next year. Hopefully they are good changes. Maybe the Yorks are learning from their mistakes, and will actually make good descisions. The wide recievers are going to have a huge tournamenmt, it’s gonna be sweet. Everybody is going to play to thier maximum potential, knowing that their ass is on the line, and hopefully Nolan will tell them that even if they win the preseason battle, it doesn’t mean that those players can’t come back, cause they will play for a job, and thier is no time when a player plays his hardest more when it’s thier ass on th line or even a contract year. Jason Hill vs. Arnaz Battle, James Hardy or Adarious Bowman vs. Darrel Jackson. Can’t wait till next year, all the answers will come in the coming preseason and regular season, even the playoffs.

  23. somedumbass…. i see you included the three games he played injured AND the game he was injured in. u r pathetic.

and pintor89, the NFLs best second string wont come close to any teams first string. that is probably the stupidest thing i’ve heard in a few days. bottom line, we lost against their 1st stringers.

its nice to have a win, but its so sad to see everyone so excited about winning meaningless games. i remember when we were excited about The Catch II or the biggest playoff comeback in NFL history… this is a new low.

  24. Agree with u 110% Nolans image. I dont see where people come off saying that the bucs 2nd team defense is better than any other teams in the NFL remember we lost to the Falcons. Derrick Brooks uniform wasnt even dirty I didnt really see Ronde Barber out there that much. Im not saying anything bad about Hill I like him. But We gave Alex Smith tons of money I dont want us giving Hill tons of money because he beat the bungals and the backup bucs. Lets see what happens in Cleveland ok. I love the 49ers I watch them every week im on this site everyday im just tired of us not being able to be a decent team anymore. The time has come for Nolan to go!!!!!!

  25. Well it doesnt matter what quarterback we have playing because our receivers drop to many damn balls.Vernon David looks like he might have a breakout season next year if he doesnt get injured all next year. And D. Walker might be a good back up tight end too.Are problem is we need to replace Larry Allen(if he leaves) and Jonas Jennings because we are wasting our money on this injured person way to much. Then we need a good receiver,it doesnt matter what size or speed just one that can get open and catch.

  26. Michael….exactly my thoughts about Garcia’s happy feet…
And didn’t he have someone named T.O. and others to throw to? and an OC, and an Offensive line…

Santa? One more present please…no snow and 60 degrees in Cleveland….lol

  27. I knew someone was gonna bitch about how many games smith has played in.Look I got the stats from NFL.com so they are pathetic not me.

  28. It sounds like you guys care More about Alex Smith starting than a 49ers victory.

  29. Hill is not the answer. He beat the crappy Bengals, one of the worst D’s in the league. And he outplayed the second string of Tampa Bay. Are we that bad that we think he is that good?

  30. Southbend - Personally, I am not that excited about the victory because it was meaningless. It isn’t even something to build on for next year. We are out of the playoffs and we are beating bad teams. This might be helping Nolan keep his job, and that might not be the best thing. I would only feel okay about him keeping the job if we hire Cam Cameron as OC. He’s the only proven offensive mind available for the OC gig. My problem is people taking stabs at Smith because Hill is looking good against bad defenses and with an improved offense. I doubt anyone here has worked as hard for something as Smith has from high school until now and the organization hasn’t helped him out on the field. Sure, he’s filthy rich, but I really doubt he had any clue he’d be the top pick before draft time came around in ‘05. I really believe any QB who works hard enough will be somewhat successful. The busts are the guys who didn’t and relied on talent (i.e. Ryan Leaf). So while people are trashing him, Nolan is probably grinning because every good play Hill has against a bad defense, Nolan gets a tiny victory over Smith.

  31. Niners staying in SF news….

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/12/26/BA8BU2BRL.DTL&tsp=1

  32. Big M Shaun Hill scored 2 td’s vs the tampa starting Defense so you cant say anything about bad defenses

  33. its nice to see another win i think one more win and a bengals loss next week shoud put us out of the top ten in the draft meaning the cunt swab pats wont end up taking long or mcfadden so i think i can start breathing again if we beat clevland on to ohter things Patrick Willis is The best LB in the nfl and he is a rookie can you imagine him in a few years ray lewis who is the real 52

  34. Competition creates improvement. It is impossible to say that Hill is currently better than Alex Smith, but it is also stupid to assume that Smith is the quarterback of the future. Neither Hill or Smith have proved anything to this point, neither have the niners, but if the niners keep the team stable, for instance return a complete coaching staff for the first time in nearly 5 years, and create open competition throughout training camp the niners could be back on track. The Smith/Nolan beef is overemphasized, there will always be rifts on a losing team, i.e. Romeo Crennel. Everybody is just frustrated because expectations for this year were high for the first time in a while. I think if we resign Hill maybe draft a quaterback in the later rounds, like a colt brennan, it will inspire Smith to improve. Like it has already been mentioned, Alex Smith is an incredible worker.

  35. The three recievers that are in a lot of mock drafts for us are Malcom Kelley, Adarious Bowman, and James Hardy. I prefer James Hardy, but most drafts have us taking Bowman and Kelley, or even offensive linemen and 3-4 converted DE s. We better get a playmaker Wide reciever though, I know more about Hardy and I like him more because he is 6′7″ and can run routes, AND can actually catch the ball unlike Darrel Jackson. I don’t know about bowman or kelley. The second round pick should be used on whatever is best available at the possition we need most. If quentin Groves is available get him, get an offensive tackle or guard. Gosder cherillius, roy schueing ARE GOOD. Hope Hardy is available, if not this is not an actually good draft year for recievers, same as year we needed quarterback, and theier really easn’t any good ones to choose from, (2005), so we got Alex Smith ( see how that is working out). This is however a good draft for offensive linemen. Many good offensive linemen, we could probaly get some good linemen late in the draft.

  36. When we needed good quarterbacks there wasn’t any good quarterbacks to get in 2005.

When we need wide recievers not many to choose from that are really good. Last year Bowe, Davis, and Calvin Johnson were all their.

Early Doucet looks like a bust waiting to happen, he’s not really as fast as he is supposedly is. He doesn’t have games speed.

This year we should get a guy like Hardy, and next year we should try to get another wide reciever, like a Desean Jackson. Get a guy who runs a 4.2-4.3 40 yard dash, who can be a deep threat. Then opponents could not double cover our tall slow reciever, and would have to worry about the big play every time. We would have the perfect wide reciever TANDEM, not to mention Vernon Davis up the middle, we could be an offensive juggaurnaut, depending on our quarterback play.

  37. Oh shit Shaun Hill is hurting with an injury…

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/ninerinsider/detail?&entry_id=22970

  38. sorry if i made it worse than it is but he did miss practice.

  39. Andre, we were down 13-7 at half. We lost to their first stringers. His stats weren’t too great in that half either. Had we played a whole game against them when it counted it probably would have been worse. This next game doesn’t count for the Browns either. I like Shaun Hill, but even people I know who are iffy on Smith make fun of the people that are all up on Hill’s nuts. I don’t care how well he’s played, there’s a reason he’s been a third stringer for SIX years.

  40. no when hill scored his second td and it was 14-13 they’re starting defenders were still in…they were taken out after that

  41. andre is an idiot. haha he’s all up on hill’s nuts cuz he won games that dont matter against teams that dont have shit to play for.

  42. i bet shaun hill doesnt even stay with us after the year

  43. It’s going to be an interesting off-season… We might not want to tie up that much money in one position, but we might have to if we want to keep Hill.

  44. You know, after reading that first article about two STARTERS saying that Nolan needs to go, that cements it for me. I felt that way already, but when Nolan has starters saying he needs to go, he has officially lost his team. All that crap earlier in the season about how the team is sticking together and there is no finger pointing is over. Now there is finger pointing and it’s right at you Nolan. It’s time for a change, and I don’t mean just hiring a GM. As for Hill, I don’t know if he is the answer, but I say it’s about time Smith finally got someone to challenge his position. One thing Nolan is right about is that competition makes players better (an addage he decides to dismiss when he wants to, curiously enough), so go ahead and pit Hill vs. Smith. Even if Smith remains the starter, at least Hill will prove his worth as a good backup. Personally, I want to see what happens this week. Cleveland needs this win to stay in the playoff hunt. So, they won’t just let Hill walk all over them. I hope Hill can play so he can show us all whether or not he is for real.

  45. i say that one of the 2 names that want nolan gone are Isaac Sopogoa…not drafted by him and plays backup to aubrayo franklin(nolan’s toy from BAL)i hate how he’s also got that one fucker Attiyah Allsion eating a roster spot and inactive every week
