MMP: The Day After
The 2008 NFL Draft is officially behind us and the 49ers drafted defensive line, offensive line, wide receiver and secondary. The consensus on the draft is that the picks were safe, and most of the grades are around the C+ range.
- Mel Kiper gives the 49ers a C+
- According to McCloughan the 49ers did not take a WR until round six because “we’re not good enough to draft for need”
- Word on Spikes is 50-50. They will touch base with Spikes soon. Heading into the draft there was a strong chance that Spikes would probably be signed if they didn’t draft an ILB. Although Grant was drafted and is set to compete at the ‘ted’ spot. His drafting doesn’t affect the Spikes situation.
- 49ers had offers to move back in the draft three times. Rounds four, six, and seven.
Rachal was the first USC guy drafted by 49ers since DE Israel Ifeanyi (now let’s hope he works out better than Ifeanyi did) - The 49ers were contemplating a receiver in round 2, when asked Martz said he preferred Chilo Rachal over that receiver.
- McCloughan describes Chilo Rachal as a ‘poor man’s Larry Allen’
UDFA’s so far: Cam Colvin (WR), Gary Guyton (LB), Ezra Butler (LB), Robert Jordan (WR), Joe Jon Finley (TE), Louis Holmes (DE) - Butch Davis, Balmer’s Line Coach at NC, compares him to former Eagle Jerome Brown.

Comment by Jonesin on 28 April 2008:
Be interesting to see if Cam and Robert can make the team. I would still like to see them sign Takeo as well. What a beastly middle set we would have. That would make up for a boring draft in my opinion.
Comment by Lowrance on 28 April 2008:
C+ sounds about right. Zero excitement except screams of pain from us! But who knows how these kids will perform.
Walsh’s last pick in the last round, Johnson, would have been a great receiver if he ever stayed healthy, so time will tell. Obviously Martz wasn’t impressed with the talent of the wide receivers. Would be easier to throw if the quarterbacks’s weren’t running for their life…
Let’s hope the line is stronger and gives them time to find our boys.
VD…. do us proud.
Frank? Just be yourself.
As usual… I’m just hopeful…
Comment by joe gomez on 28 April 2008:
is this what it comes down to? being excited over some guy who wasnt even drafted and was a number 2 receiver in college? man were stretchin’ pretty far just to get excited about something arent we. at the end of the day lets all just thank Nolan, Mcloughan, and dont forget Donahue. Have we officially become the NFL’s version of the 1990’s Golden State Warriors of the Bay area? The team who finally made the playoffs after ten long years. This is looking to be about a 10+ year playoff drought. Its been seven already. God please help this franchise.
Comment by Adam on 28 April 2008:
B. We pick up two guys who can immediately help (1st two picks). Wallace will be center within a few years (next year if we decide Heitmann is too expensive); he was the best pure center in the draft and unless we’re going to wait to Mack out of Cal, this was a good pick. If Smith moves over to safety, then we got four starters (the idea being he beats Roman out).
The other two were a boom or bust and depth at ILB. Worst case, it is is likely 4 starters. Best case, 5 plus some depth that we can always use.
If Colvin, Jordan, or one of the FA LBs hit, this is a B+
Comment by niner_junkie on 28 April 2008:
Joe Gomez: Why don’t you just back up your team instead of talking so much crap? Training camp hasn’t even started yet and you’re already talking about how horrible this team’s going to be. I’m not 100% confident that the team will do well this year but at least I support them. I say we just let things play out and see what happens instead of jumping to conclusions.
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 28 April 2008:
niner_junkie its because he’s really a raider fan. u know
blah blah blah thats all they know how to do
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 28 April 2008:
if we quit playing his pathetic game he’ll get tired and go back to the black hole
Comment by niner_junkie on 28 April 2008:
Haha that sounds about right. I’ll just leave it alone.
Comment by Dan the man on 28 April 2008:
Joe, the team doesn’t even have a grass stain on their jerseys yet. Holy shit. How can you be so butt hurt over a draft. We won’t even know if this was a good draft until three years from now. Since you love sucking WR dicks all draft here is the best quote…
“The 49ers were contemplating a receiver in round 2, when asked Martz said he preferred Chilo Rachal over that receiver.”
Thank god Joe isn’t in the war room. We would have came out with 6 WR.
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 28 April 2008:
Dan the Man :::::::: If joe would of been in the war room with his
raider mask on. He would of done his Mike Ditka impersonation and
traded all 6 of our picks to Al Davis for the 4th pick and drafted
Desean Jackson. The would of spent the rest of the weekend on this
site tellin everyone what horrilbe draft the niners had…..LOL
I’ve seen some real bafoons on this site from time to time they
usually resurface with a new name. But this guy has them all beat
its like he’s auditioning for talk radio. Thats it joe go call
damon bruce on KNBR.
Comment by FranktheTank on 28 April 2008:
All i know is that our biggest problem last year wasnt the WR’s it was the o line. our QB’s never had any time to throw and look what happened to Alex Smith, he got fucked up. i dont blame nolan or Mcoughlin for their draft cause our o line sucked ass. And the reason no one was talking about Kentwan Balmer before the draft and the niners getting him was because he wasnt even suppose to be their. i saw him going as high as 11 to the bills and really no later then the Seacocks. he was the third best D tackle behind Ellis and Dorsey.i think a NFL coach who all he does from the end of the season to the draft is scout players knows a little more than an idiot at home on the computer reading all these bullshit Mock drafts. mock drafts dont mean shit. And i am glad that your all not creaming in your pants about the draft and off season the niners are having cause we were all like this last year, myself included and look what happend 5-11. where not going to know anything about the season till they step on the field in september and play some ball.
Comment by Ryan the 1st on 28 April 2008:
This is the deal and correct me if I am wrong Niner Pundit……I think that Rachal should start right guard and Baas (if he can come back healthy 100 percent) should start at center. Heitman is the weak link and this further forces his hand. Between Baas and Heitman I think everyone can agree that Baas is the better starter. I am also like to see Larry Allen come back for ONE MORE YEAR. By the way, that is RACHAL’s HERO!!! I like how Balmer sounded in his interview, but he has to prove to me that he was better than Calais Campbell and Phillip Merling. The jury is still out. As for the Texas A&M center……I get that one, but I think we really could have gotten a better player. At the very least it puts the interior line on notice that they can’t just sit back and chill out with the starting spot. What I want to know is if Balmer starts on the left side now and the ANGRY Samoan get the starting nod at the nose tackle. Justin Smith and SOAP WILL start come week one…..the question IS who is going to be the third guy? Balmer can play nose and left end.
Comment by faccipazzo on 28 April 2008:
The 9ers came up with the second or third fastest OL in the draft, when they chose Chilo Rachal, who, will be our right tackle for the next 6-8 years. He was a tackle all his prep career, who dominated at point of attack. USC made him an All-American guard. Now he’ll most likely play inside until Baas returns. There’s two prayers that I have. #1. That Larry Allen returns, 30lbs. lighter, so that he will again be able to get to those quick inside 2-gappers, and is again able to reach the second level to spring Gore. #2. “That the new drafted center will recharge Eric Heitmann” who was dinged up some last year. If no Allen, then it’s, LT Staley, LG Adams, C Heitmann, RG Baas, RT Rachal. Wragge could spell inside at G.or C. Another scenerio, would have LT Staley, LG Heitmann, C Wallace, RG Wragge, RT Rachal, with Adams filling at G.T. what ever!! This guy Reggie Smith, can bring the wood and I think he would make a much better Free Safety, where he could come to the ball, instead of at cornerback, where he don’t have in my estimation, the foot speed to deal with the elite outside speed of NFL Wide Receivers. So we drafted players, that most likely will be repositioned. Go 9ers!!
Comment by Medford on 28 April 2008:
The ? is will Nolan let Colvin play? He doesnt even let drafted WR’s play so even though we got Colvin it doesnt mean he will even see the field
Comment by joe gomez on 28 April 2008:
RE: Why did you wait until the sixth round to get a wide receiver?
“The way it worked for us this year was the best player on the board. We knew early we were going to do it no matter what. But it fell that way throughout the draft. We are not going to force the issue on a receiver in the fourth, or the third, when we do have a better player at another position. We are not a good enough team to draft for need. We’ve still got to take the best player, and as many guys as we can to make us better.”
Thought this was interesting..this is a transcript from McCloughans interview from 49ersparadise.com..Scot is saying we didnt draft for need we drafted the best player. Could of fooled me.
Comment by joe gomez on 28 April 2008:
hey los banos beaner eater..thats funny..but sorry i would never package 6 fucken picks for one player no matter how good the player is.. another idiotic comment from an illegal alien..however your right i wouldve picked up d. jackson because he was available in the 2nd round. by the way how much for the chiklet? HAHAHA. dude..go watch the soccer channel or something thats probably where your real football knowledge is at..give up the NFL chat.. your clueless ese.
Comment by joe gomez on 28 April 2008:
hey dan the gay man.. so who are #1 receiver in our receiver corps dipshit? yea theyre all #2’s and 3’s arent they? drafting 6 receivers? hahaha…get jerrys cock out of your mouth cause you talkin stupid now… 1 legit playmaker at the WR position in this draft and it would of been a much better draft..all im saying is we need to seriously address the lack of talent at that position moron..WR was a top need in this draft and we didnt get one til the 6th round..also quit lying to everyone cause i read the fucken transcript..martz didnt pick that OL over the WR dumbass..he told Scot “do what you need to do.” Go back to the transcript and read it again bitch cause you dont know what the fuck your saying.
Comment by joe gomez on 28 April 2008:
In a nutshell…sf chronicle laid it down what kind of draft we had…couldnt have said it better..we picked up…
– A versatile defensive lineman who probably will become a starter.
– An offensive guard who eventually could be a starter.
– A cornerback who might not be good enough to play corner.
– A backup center.
– A wide receiver with an arrest on his record and an indelible memory of being pepper sprayed.
– A linebacker chosen for his value on special teams and his ability to block kicks
Comment by joe gomez on 29 April 2008:
here you go dan the pussy…straight from scot’s transcript..in his own words regarding the pick of Chilo and the next pick..not sure which source martz is quoted saying he wanted chilo over the WR on the board but this is black and white..the transcript of the interview.
RE: On Mike Martz’s involvement with picking Rachal and Wallace
“He’s involved in the conversation; whenever it’s all said and done it’s my call. But, he gives me his input and he’s been very cordial. Again, I think it’s very important that the coaches are involved. I want them to be on the same page. There was no green light, he looked at me and said ‘do what you’ve got to do’ and I said ‘I always do.’
Comment by joe gomez on 29 April 2008:
hey los banos wetback..you know its funny reading some of your prior posts..you wanted the niners to do some serious trading..and your talkin smack about me doing trades? your the one praying for some trades to happen in the meantime on your knees polishing Caldwell’s knob. all this time you were pushing for a WR and at the same time criticizing me for wanting one. good one beaner.
Comment by Medford on 29 April 2008:
It would have been pretty nice to have picked a WR in the second round and let him learn from one of the best Issac Bruce. They r going to be very thin a WR next year Bruce two year contract Johnston 1 year contract whos left Battle he isnt the answer I would rather see Colvin at #3 then him he has had his chance and he is what he is a tough guy but not a starter. Bruce probably wont stay if Martz aint here next year and u know how other teams like r OC.
Comment by Medford on 29 April 2008:
San Francisco 49ers
Grade: C-
The Niners took two projects (Chilo Rachal and Kentwan Balmer) with their top picks. Rachal was a need pick after RG David Baas underwent surgery for a torn pectorals, but neither is a sure bet to be a solid starter. Both were boom-or-bust risks for a team that won five games last year. The 49ers hope third-rounder Reggie Smith can play corner, but he may lack the speed to excel there. Virginia Tech WR Josh Morgan and Ohio State LB Larry Grant are almost strictly special teams prospects. C Cody Wallace will be a backup.

Comment by joe gomez on 29 April 2008:
good post medford..these 2 were a stretch..theyre not guaranteed to start and have questionable work ethics..Balmer had one solid season and Rachal needs alot of work as far as redirection techniques and footwork..when your picken 1 and 2 .. they should be immediate starters. WR was a top priority that we failed to address. i mean waiting til the 6th round? defenses will just crowd the line with 7 to 8 players just like last year to stop gore because our receivers cant get separation. we needed some quality receiver with rare speed such as desean to get that separation and open field play making ability. like you said our current WR corps are not even signed with us for long. arnaz is a qb turned wr although tough is not that fast, bruce is on his downside and signed for 2 yrs, johnson is a #2 career wr is signed for 1 year, hill had one catch all year last year, lelie is non existant, morgan is a career #2 and has arrest issues, colvin will be our greatest hope and hes undrafted. maybe theyre goal is to suck again this year knowing were not gonna make the playoffs again anyways and are trying to draft that franchise WR next year..have no idea what they were thinking.
Comment by FranktheTank on 29 April 2008:
you want a number one reciever well i got two words for you in the 2009 NFL draft “Michael Crabtree” he is nasty
Comment by Samson on 29 April 2008:
Im really hoping this WR issue will be solved during the regular season remember there is three awesome recievers wanting to be traded 1) Roy Williams good possiblity good relationship with Mike Martz, 2) Chad Johnson self expanatory the guy beats horses in a foot race, 3) Anquan Boldin awesome reciever ill take any of the three!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Ryan the 1st on 29 April 2008:
See Medford, WE DON’T NEED PROJECTS…..we need producers. Rachal has the best chance to start out of all of them. I think that Nolan will go with Smith, Soap, and Franklin at the starting three up front. If Baas comes back 100 percent then we need to give Heitman the bench. THe offensive line should be Staley, Snyder, Baas, Rachal, and Jennings. If Jennings stays healthy than this could be a killer o line. Heitman is the weak link. Put him on the bench.
Comment by West on 29 April 2008:
Ryan, like your order for our O Line….but I think Nolan might go with smith ,soap on da ends an Balmer at nt….long as he can hold up da double team… I c franklin coming off da bench……What i do like is we can switch from 4-3-, 3-4 in games with easy….we can give alot of different looks with our D, BRING UP EXTRA DB’S, like we did against da bengals at times also.
Just hope we can get some pressure on some qb’s…..Oliver, or 1 of da moore’s
Comment by Ryan the 1st on 29 April 2008:
Yes, and someone get Takeo Spikes on the line. I hear now that only the Browns and the Niners are interested in him. The Browns have already had their spending spree. I hope we are willing to pay him because he would start.
Comment by AXEGRINDER on 29 April 2008:
I don’t put any stock in anything rotoworld says. What the fuck do they know about anything. Bottom line is teams take more of a risk drafting flashy players like WR’s, QB’s, and RB’s. Trench players are needed to allow the flash to do their job, and we were thin on guys to do the dirty work. We’re in much better shape now, so let poindexter analysts write all they want. What does it take to get an A grade from these self-proclaimed experts? They can all kiss my ass.
I would have liked to see us draft a pass-rusher early, but that didn’t happen so there’s no use crying about it. I definitely agree with McLoughan when he said this draft made us better.
Comment by West on 29 April 2008:
Spikes would b nice…..could make Willis dat much greater…..an company
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 30 April 2008:
Morning everyone, thought I’d weigh in on the starting lines..
OL
LT Staly, LG Snyder, C Wallace or Baas or Wragge thats the big
battle who ever wins wins, RG Rachal or Baas, RT Rachal or Jennings.
I don’t think Heitman should start and not at center guard is his
natural position. At center he’s calling the OL plays and didn’t do
a very good job. 2 years ago when he got hurt Wragge came in and did great for like the last 4 or 5 games. Hopefully the new line
coach will change things up.
DL
Smith is locked at RE, Soapaga will beat out Franklin at the nose,
Balmer at LE. When we go to the 4-3. I hope its Smith RE. Soap RT,
Balmer LT, McDonald or Moore LE. Leave Aubrayo as a rotation back
up. He got schooled last year. As for Fields back up also.
We have mini camp this week end as well as alot of other teams.
As they start seeing how there new teams look. there are going to
be some high caliber players cut loose. The niners still have cap
room I believe. Watch for them to not only sign Spikes but a
VETERAN WIDE RECIEVER. (No he might not be a #1 WR), but a #2 or 3
is all we need. There will be other veterans cut that could be
signed.
I know that Bruce old and only has a 2year contract which is pro-
bably 1 year to long. We can always cut him next year. Johnson has
a 1 year contract which I think is great if he kicks ass we give
him an extension. Hes playing for a new deal, and should be hungry.
Battle will probably be a 4th rec/special teams. Good team guy not
much else. Hill, Lelie, Colvin, or another free agent, will be
competeing for the 3ed spot.
Only half of teams in the league have true #1 WR. Having 2 #2’s is
all bad. Having Gore running the ball will make our WR look alot
better. Now that they have addressed the O line.
Comment by P_WILLIS_69 on 30 April 2008:
All in all it was a good draft. We got what we needed.Could have went with Malcolm Kelly or Desean Jackson in the 2nd round but we helped add depth to the much needed O-line.I’m thinkin we go WR 1st round next year.
Comment by P_WILLIS_69 on 30 April 2008:
Mel KIper said on ESPN last night that that the Arizona Cardinals will have the first pick in the 2009 draft.Ha Ha lets hope so.
Comment by joe gomez on 30 April 2008:
Los Banos Jerry is wrong. Almost every team in the NFL has a legit #1 receiver. Ill name 20 right now (which is way over half) with their receiver yardage total. R. Wayne, Indy (1510), R. Moss, NE (1493), C. Johnson, Cin (1440), Fitzgerald, AZ (1409), TO, Dal (1355), Marshall, Den (1325), B. Edwards, Cle (1289), R. White, ATL (1202), Colston, NOR (1202), Holt, Stl (1189), Engram, Sea (1147), Curtis, Phi (1110), Mason, Bal (1087), Driver, GB (1048), Burress, NYG (1025), Galloway, TB (1014), Smith, Car (1002), D. Bowe, Kan (995), Gates, SD (984), Chambers, Mia (970)… Thats twenty #1 receivers right there and i didnt even count Evans from Buffalo, Moss in Washington or Williams in Detroit who all went over 800 yards. Most of these teams have both their #1 and #2 guys going over 1000 like welker and moss. Jackson came in last year to be our #1 guy but didnt do shit or our 2nd option (battle) actually beat him out with 600 yards. the reason why are line struggled so bad wasnt because they had no talent its because they were bringing in 7 to 8 guys stacking them in the box for the sole mission to stop Gore. Well Gore cant do it all by himself. without a true #1 receiver to spread out defenses, someone they must account for teams will just continue to laugh at our passing attack.
Comment by Nashville9er on 30 April 2008:
Did this draft improve their depth? Sure. But when you go 5-11, you need a major upgrade in talent. You need to go out and get sure-fire starters and difference makers…and I don’t see that in the guys they drafted. Especially aggrivating when Groves and Jackson were right there for the taking.
McCloughan said that they weren’t good enough to draft for need…well, they sure as hell aren’t good enough to draft for depth!
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 30 April 2008:
I fiured out why your such an idiot you can”t even can’t count to 20. that was 16. Gated is a TE. just because they got 1000 yards
doesn’t make them a legit #1 rec. So if you included all those names
thats still just 16 which is what I said 1/2 the league. Simple math
lesson for 1st grader 32 - 16 = 16
Oh since your a raider fan I thought you would of realized that
Chambers is a Charger not a Dolphin. Shut and go back to the Black
Hole or did they run you out of Oaktown……….Moron
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 30 April 2008:
Nashville9er:: The problem with getting Willis the rookie of the
year last year is that you hope or think that its gonna happen every
year. The chances are very slim that Jackson or Groves will have a
big impact in there 1st year. McCloughan said it right. At 5-11 we’re not good enough to pick those type players. We have to fix the
lines as frustrating as it seams. If we still had the 7th pick that
was traded to the Patriots then we would of had another blue chip
prospect. Most GM’s felt there was between 14 and 20 blue chippers.
We didn’t pick until 29 and 39. There are no guarantees. Jackson in
his 1st year probably wouldn’t see the field except on Special teams. Even Jerry Rice sucked his rookie year. Groves if he was on
our team without an above avg DL wouldn’t be effective. Our line was
brutal. Nolan needs to win this year or he’s gone. They had to fix
the trences 1st.
They’ll pick up some more free agents. There are going to be some
sweet veterans cut in the next few weeks. If both lines this year
gell and are effective. Then maybe next year will be upgrading the
WR position. Through the draft of free agency again.
Here’s a ?????????? for anyone,, how many WR in the 2007 draft that
were drafted withen the first 39 picks, became legit #1 WR’s. I can
only think of 1, D. Bowe, K.C.
Comment by AXEGRINDER on 30 April 2008:
Los Banos Jerry, Calvin Johnson will be a legit #1 sooner rather than later, but you’re right about WR’s not contributing much their first couple years. Dwayne Bowe was the best receiver among a KC core of crap.
As I said before, we took much less of a risk drafting linemen early rather than a wideout, plus we addressed a serious need. This is probably not a popular opinion, but I for one am happy with the drafting of linemen. Whether or not they pan out is another story.
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 30 April 2008:
AXEGRINDER there are more people that agree with us than you might
think. there just not all posting because they probably don;t want
to deal with the morons from the black hole. Check out the draft
pole. there are alot of B grades.
When they sign Spikes and 1 or 2 more vets that are gonna get cut
because they are to big of salary cap hit. We might just be 8-8,
9-7. We’re in a very weak division. The Blow Hards keep talking
about WR. When they should be bitching about our biggest problem.
QUARTERBACK
Comment by joe gomez on 30 April 2008:
oh so you want to start with the insults again huh spick? so you caught gates who like gonzales in KC is being used as a WR..even though you take Gates out.. thats still 19 #1 WR’s. I know that wetback tijuana education you have doesnt do you no justice but c’mon jerry you can do better than that! quit talkin about the black hole cause i already told you ive been a niner fan longer than youve been in America..hahaha..so why dont you take your expired green card and go back to tijuana. and tell your mom in that back seat of that taxi cab to give back my change..i gave her a ten for that $5 blowjob…hahaha.

hey beaner head…thats probably the only reason why your knew it was bunz..hey did you finish counting yet? haha..that was 19 without gates idiot..frankthetitty..oh so you want to talk shit too huh? so how long are we gona wait until we pull a trigger on a offensive playmaker at the WR receiver? donahue fucked up by picking rashaun woods but other than that when did we look for a WR in top 3 rounds? im not saying dont address the line..but shit we already gave up our number one pick for staley..we drafted baas and snyder..larry brown hasnt said hes retiring for sure..jonas jennings is good when healthy..im just saying..im sure we could of gotten a good lineman in the later rounds..that 2nd round pick had offensive playmaker written all over it..sweed is a stud..jackson is a stud..we cant give up trying to find a offensive game breaker just because we had some bad picks in the past. didnt know too much about rashaun woods but maybe he didnt have the right coaching. who on our team can really scare a defense besides gore? vernon was supposed to be that game breaker but he has been a disappointment. again, i bleed red and gold..i used to follow the raiders when they had stabler, branch, casper and them because i grew up in the bay. after they left i was through with them. i started watching the niners when they had steve deberg as qb and montana was his backup. oh and beaner eater..i met bunz back in 1980 when he came to my school in the bay as a kid..then i met him at his restaurant in roseville.. so fuck the raiders…i am a 49ers fan for life..if you still doubt me go to myspace.com/jomargomez and you will see pictures of my kids at the 49ers family day. they go every year. we also go to every kids camp. every training camp. ive been to all five super bowl parade. im the biggest 49ers fan so dont even try that raider black hole shit on me. even though i think they had a much better draft than us i couldnt care less for them. jamarcus russell will probably end up being better than alex will ever be. that is probably the weakest point of the niners is qb and second is the receivers. like i said again the reason why the line looked so bad last year is because they were crowding the damn line for gore and daring us to beat them with the pass. beaner eater is always the dickhead who says something first..i just follow it up. saying your wrong is just an opinion. but you start calling me a moron than we got a fucken problem. you got your opinion i got mine. but you start saying something personal than weve got problems.

ADAM..yea but hes only signed one year..he sounds like a stud..but he might be auditioning for another team.
Comment by joe gomez on 30 April 2008:
jerry.. hes probably not a #1 option but heres calvin johnson’s numbers…48 receptions, 756 yards, 15.8 yards per catch. thats better than our #1 receiver last year.
Comment by joe gomez on 30 April 2008:
franktheskank..ethnic slures? hahaha..daym what are you european? LOL
Comment by joe gomez on 30 April 2008:
jerry..they are the #1 options for their team. they all led their team in receiving. they all have over 1000 yards…colston had over 1200 yards. how do you clasify a #1 receiver?
Comment by joe gomez on 30 April 2008:
adam..my last name originates from spain but i was borned and raised in the bay area..but moved to sac 5 years ago..real estate in the bay area is insane.

Comment by Adam on 30 April 2008:
Hey joe gomez how about going out sometime you are really funny im down for what ever.
Comment by joe gomez on 30 April 2008:
Adam.. hey im all about having fun bro..im down for anything..check out my site..myspace.com/jomargomez..youll learn a little about me..i take my niners very serious though..i am so fucken sick of our losing ways..not sure if i can trust McNolan..guess were stuck with them for now. i think alex smith will be a huge key for the success of this team thats why i wanted the best possible targets to help him out. hopefully martz can work some magic with our mediocre receiving corps. its been 14 long years since we last hoisted that SB trophy and hopefully it doesnt hit 20.
Comment by FranktheTank on 1 May 2008:

Martz is going to prove himself…the best part is that NO ONE thinks that the niners will be good so they won’t be scouted hard. We will catch people by surprise. By the way did you read about Chris Cooley calling out Vernon Davis and saying he is overpaid for what he has done in the league. I have to agree to a certain degree. He isn’t Antonio Gates no matter how you slice it….he COULD be, but so far he has shown me he has everything EXCEPT THE HANDS.
Comment by West on 1 May 2008:

Martz makes some good pointz……….I feel good about dis season
Martz says he has been thrilled working with receivers Jason Hill, Bryant Johnson and Ashley Lelie in the days leading up to this camp.
So when I asked if he had any problem with Scot McCloughan and Nolan passing on wide receivers in the first three rounds of last weekend’s draft, Martz gave me a soliloquy on the greatness of the 49ers’ draft approach.
But this is an offense without a No. 1 receiver, being turned over to the man who loves to throw it, and yet the only receiver taken was Josh Morgan in the sixth round.
Is Nolan right? Is Martz by himself the sole necessary offensive upgrade for a team that scored only 217 points last year? (Psst: Martz’s Rams scored 503 points in 2001.)
“I certainly appreciate that,” Martz said of Nolan’s words. “The thing I would say is that I think there are some guys that really are just in a position to step up and be counted on - Ashley and Jason and (Bryant Johnson).
“We brought in Isaac Bruce. . . . What more do you want? These guys have played in the league, played at a high level. Now you want a first-round pick? No, we didn’t need that. There’s enough there that I just feel good about. I don’t think that’s an issue. I’m excited about those guys.”

There are 2 Adams on the board, just to let you all know. The differant adam asked joe gomez out on a date.Im the one who said he was hilarious.I will change my name to Adam49.
Comment by joe gomez on 2 May 2008:
did he really ask me out on a date or was he just asking to “hang out?” im homophobic as hell so i hope that shit wasnt a date request..LOL
Comment by joe gomez on 2 May 2008:
west..im confident Martz has the right plan for our offensive attack..not to confident about alex..same with shaun hill. i hear martz’ offense is one of the hardest offenses to grasp. this will be alex’s 4th different OC right? im going to keep a close eye on him and shaun to see whos grasping the offense better. ill try to make atleast 3 training camps this year and give you my input.
Comment by AXEGRINDER on 2 May 2008:
Smith knows he better perform or thats it for him. He also knows that he’s got two capable QBs on his heels for his job. He didn’t feel that kind of pressure with washed up Trent Dilfer as the #2. It’s put up or shut up time NOW. Smith is also a smart mutherfucker so I don’t think grasping the offense will be a problem, besides the terminology is similar to Turner’s offense.
I’m still holding hope that Smith is the QB that will take us to #6. He’s got all the tools necessary to get the job done. With the proper coaching, I’m confident he’ll succeed. And if he succeeds, the 49ers will succeed. It’s that simple.

I do feel Hill will end up as our starter….looks more confident back there, faster release/ decision making…i like dat, gonna need dat for Martz offense
Comment by loser on 4 May 2008:
i got pissed off as well when i saw deseans name being called by the eagles. then i thought to myself: what if they are thinking more dowm the line and are waiting for something big to happen. i remember the cards saying a couple of years ago they wouldnt pay big money in free agency and then they went after the edge. we just have to be patient and maube we will get someone like chad. i bet hed like to play with bam bam.
Comment by Billy on 4 May 2008:
Although we didnt get Desean I really like aquisition of undrafted FA Cam Colvin he looks really good. Just putting it out there but I think we jumped the gun on Marcus Maxwell why was he cut I thought he had potential especially after tearing it up in NFL Europe.
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 4 May 2008:
wasn’t he hurt all the time
Comment by 9er nation devotee on 4 May 2008:
Well, id colvin doesn’t pan out. He hasn’t dove into the pocket book much.
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 4 May 2008:
Maxwell is with the Bungels he’s the 5th or 6th option.. WR1 CJ,
Gabriel, Maxwell. WR2 Housemanzada, Chatman, Glen Holt
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 4 May 2008:
the niners will never trade for Chad. 1) They want to much for him.
2) We’re still rebuilding he would be pulling the same crap next
year with us.
Comment by Los Banos Jerry on 4 May 2008:
I would rather they trade for Williams with the Lions
Comment by 9er nation devotee on 4 May 2008:
Good point, he already knows the offense as well.
Comment by 9er nation devotee on 4 May 2008:
hey I need an opinion, Could our defense be good enough to break the confidence of our offense. 3 consecutive interceptions, course they were off of tiped passes, but. Hopefully it will strengthen our offense, but when the offense gets beaten constantly. that can’t be good.
Comment by AXEGRINDER on 5 May 2008:
It’s just practice, so I doubt if they’re making too much out of it. When you have INT’s off of tipped passes, I think the defense deserves credit for scrapping for the ball. The QB’s are still learning the offense, so tipped passes are going to happen (hopefully not too frequently).
Our offense was last in the league last year, so it’s probably going to take a little more than one minicamp to show some improvement, but I’m confident they’ll be MUCH improved by the time the season begins. We’re all counting on it.
Comment by AXEGRINDER on 5 May 2008:
Lion’s Roy Williams as a 49er? I think I could live with that.
