MMP: Saints and Panthers Help Out 49ers

mmpThe NFC West is up for grabs and if the 49ers can somehow get their offense on track, they can take it. Shawn Alexander can’t run to save his life and the Cards are looking to be stuck with Timmy ‘INT’ Rattay as starter. Don’t even throw the Rams in the mix, they just might finish 0-16.

  • Both the Seahawks and Cards tanked it yesterday to keep the 49ers within one game of the division lead.
  • Andy Lee > than everyone.

That’s about all for MMP today, still quiet in Ninerland.

The 49ers face the Giants this weekend and the game after the bye the previous two seasons haven’t been kind to the 49ers. They have been blown out in both. Last year 41-10 against the Bears and 52-17 against the Redskins in 2005. Let’s hope this year isn’t the same.

  1. so this is could be are big run we need to the playoffs i am just preying we get are edge on offense see some big plays and having our defense creating more turnovers we could take this if nolan and company and get this train rollin

  2. This just shows me how bad our divition is,

  3. It is interesting that you pointed out the previous blow outs after each bye the week the last 2 seasons. I remembered last year’s but not 2005. Hm. Bad preparation?

  4. This is a new year and it just means that the division will be ours if we want it! Come on guys let’s go get it this year.

  5. I think that the Niner’s come out hungry and with somthing to prove, the fact that the Cards and the Seahawks both lost this weekend provides a huge reason to come out and get a back on track. I just hope Smith and Davis will be back.

  6. I just hope the Niners can score on offense.

  7. Not to point out mistakes or anything, but wasn’t it the Panthers that helped us out and not the Ravens? Good ol’ Vinny showed how much experience benefits a team. I’m pretty sure we can get a win against them later in the year if all they have at QB is Carr… if he takes over for Vinny T. Show us what ya got Lelie!

  8. Frank…you’re right…I better fix it.

  9. Not a biggie. The Ravens did take care of the Rams… so you weren’t too far off. I just read Barrows’ blog and it looks like A. Smith and The Duke are looking good for the NYG game. Alex is up to 55 yards now and has full rotation in his shoulder.

  10. Getting Smith and Davis back the same week will be key in our success. Throw in some Lelie and maybe Gore (the O line) gets it going this week, and we walk out of NY with the win. the D is only getting better week to week. If the D can cause just one to two more trun overs we are golden, pardon the pun!

  11. hey could someone please give me the link to Barrows blog

  12. The Giants took care of the Falcons pretty easily. The Falcons suck, but we have to watch out for the Giants pass rush. If we lose Smith again, we’re done. And i dont think their offense will look too impressive against our D.

  13. AXEGRINDER, I could not agree more, if we stick to quick two and three step drops, and rid of the ball quickly we will be fine. Our D should show NY who they really have at QB. I also think that it will be important for Gore to have a break out game.

  14. If Alex Smith comes back this week we have a chance. A big key is to cover Plexico and Shockey.

HOW MANY PEOPLE THINK DEANGLO HALL IS THE MOST OVERATED CB IN THE LEAGUE? EVERY TIME I WATCH A FALCON GAME SOMEONE IS ALWAYS SCORING ON HIM.

  15. Also I watched the Ravens and Niners on NFL Network, did anyone notice how much Nolan just wanted a fg at the end he wasnt even saying lets try and get a td? He really needs to change the way he is handling this team “STOP BEING SO SCARED TO PLAY THE GAME”

  16. yeah i agree, nolan is just scared of the endzone. the falcons had a pretty good running game against the giants, it would be a pretty smart idea to give the ball to Gore most of the game so Alex wouldnt get targeted for big hits which may hurt his healing process.

  17. I dunno if Nolan’s scared of Alex Smith making a mistake or what… I think the Giants will score some points on us because they have a really good o-line, so our offense is going to have to score. Hopefully on some big plays.

  18. Samra, here is the link to Barrows’ blog:
    http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/49ers/

I hope that since they had these meetings during the bye week, Coach will make changes to his offensive mentality. The D is wonderful, and I enjoy watching them shut people down, but we’re not playing elite offenses like the Colts or Patriots or… I hate to stoop this low - the Cowboys.

  19. Self Scientific, No disrespect, but that doesn’t make any sense that you wouldn’t care if the Cowboys went 15-1. I don’t know about you, but go around with a Mega- Phone in the vacinity of candlestick point and announce that bullshit and see the response! Don’t do it around new fans or young- fair weather fans, go around true 49er fans! There’s a few true fans on this site, but go around and say that. Our history with the Cowboys going back to the early seventies has been a bad history. Those Hillbillies have prevented us from reachin the promise land too many times. I know it hasn’t happen with your generation or the young generation for you to remember, but go back. almost every player that was part of the Bill Walsh Era hated the Cowboys. Walsh Hated them, Steve Young Didn’t like them(I feel sorry for steve being on ESPN around all those EX- Cowboys), Montana and the list goes on. Theirs a difference between Respecting a team and Hating a team! When the Dallas Cowboys lose the true 49er fans are unbelievably happy, when they win were fucking pissed! Plain and simple! If the cowboys go 15-1 I will be a depressed son of a bitch, and I will care very much, because that will improve their chances of getting to number six before us, and improve their team, and I don’t want that to happen. The cowtippers are in the NFC if you don’t remember hte same as us! I want us to win number six and beyond before those down home hillbillys! I don’t want to see B.O. the traitor, Kosier, and that other Ex- player Prime time get their satisfaction. I want to dissapoint those Ego- Maniacs once and for all! I don’t want to ad to their inflated ego, I want to win more Rings before they do!

  20. Dillon, first off, no disrespect was taken from your post. Secondly I’m only looking at what the Niner’s can control.I don’t want to come to a Niner’s site and hear about a team that’s not even in our division, or on our schedule for that matter. It does not matter how the Cowboys finish. Do you think they care what the Niner’s are doing? The AFC is way to powerful for the Cowboys, they may win 6, but it won’t be this year so relax. You seen what happened once they actually played someone.

  21. Your right Self Scientific, I don’t mean to discuss the most hated team in our orginzation, but I’m just looking down the road. I agree, They did finally play some competition, and they got beat by a big margin. I’m just looking into the future and when we get better they’ll stand in our way in the playoffs. I hate those Ego Maniacs with a passion and I just look forward to us getting better so we can show America the standard in football once and for all. It seems like whenever I turn on NFL Network or ESPN thats all they discuss is the Cowtippers. (It gets Old) Hopefully we can get on the Ball this Weekend and kick some ASS! I’m sorry but I just need to vent about my hatred for those Hillbillies from time to time! Scientific I just hope we start Lelie, he’ll be an improvement!

  22. Self Scientific I was listening to a commentator during one of this weekends games and they said the you can have an excellent defense, but the excellent offenses like the Patriots, will figure out how to score on you. The good defenses may hold back some points, but they want win the game at the end of the day. they were saying you need a high power offense in todays football! I agree with this and that what we need to adopt. Our defense is alot better than a 28 ranking. I think we are a top 10 defense. The ravens game would of been a blowout if we had offense, but instead it was a defensive battle. We need to focus on the offense for now on. The 2008 draft should be:
    1.Wide Receiver-Big& Tall 6′3 & above.
    2.Offensive lineman
3.Wide Receiver- Also Big and Tall 6′3 & Above.
4.Quarteback-find a enventual backup replacement to Dilfer and Smith. Dilfer is old and sucks. Dilfer is good mentor and coach, but not good quarteback. Find QB from replable school like Notre Dam, Southern Cal ETC.
    5. Defensive End
    The rest who cares!
This is the lineup we should project come draft day. Offense and receiver should be our main focus! Self Scientific, guys look out for Maurice Purify out of Nebraska. He went to San Francisco Junior College same as O.J., and he’s from the Bay Area! The guy is 6′4 218 he’s going to be someone special. The scouts already say he’s got NFL Skills. Pull him up on Youtube
and watch Maurice Purify highlights 2006!

  23. What the Cowgirls do is completely immaterial. I really do not see any relevance to that old rivalry in the present. I would not even call it a rivalry anymore. Our biggest rivalry is now with our own offense.

  24. you can’t ignore the Rivarly. I don’t wan’t to discuss this in every board, but the Dallas Cowboys will always be the most hated orginization of the 49ers! If you don’t see any relevance your either too young, or don’t know 49er history and need to be schooled! I know they do not effect us now, but seems like most people on thissite take affense whenever we discuss them. We’ll face them sooner or later. trust me. I want those fuckers to lose, because if they don’t they’ll either reach number six before us or they will stand in our way like the 81 NFC Championship! If they suck theirs no threat, but right now they are a threat to any NFC Team in the playoffs! 49ers + Cowboys = Rivarly and hate to True Fans, newschool, oldschool, that hate for the Dallas Cowboys is past down generation to generation. It will never die with the Faithful!

  25. But Douche Bag I agree the offense is the current problem. I’m just looking down the road!

  26. Dillon: “not many TRUE fans”… man, fan ego out of control. What makes a true fan? Living in SF? Owning Season Tix? Tailgating? Buying lots of merchandise? Studying play from the 50’s? Please do inform so we can become true fans like yourself!

I totally hate the cowboys, anyone that was a fan from 80-96 probably does, but there are fans over 20 now that weren’t ever part of that rivalry. Just like there are fans over 30 now that had very little to do with the big 49ers Rams rivalry. Unless someone is around 49er fans all the time, it’s hard to force them to hate teams from before their time.

On top of that I’m finding that many modern fans don’t harbor team hatred based on the logo on their helmet anymore, they hate a team’s identity. And let’s face it, the cowboys identity has changed a lot in the last few years. In fact, their identity is closer to that of the Bills of the early 90’s than the Cowboys of the early 90’s.

Medford: Yes I totally agree that Hall was given “shutdown” status for some reason and is not a shut down CB. That being said, he played very well last night. The touchdown scored at the goal line was not his fault.

He was isolated against a slot man in motion on the right side which is NEVER single covered at the goal-line as it’s pretty much impossible even for champ bailey. He had outs and fades and very quick slants. The linebacker #51 had anything else to the inside, but he bit badly on the play action and eli threw a pretty nice ball over him.

The fact of the matter is, when a team gets a 1st and goal from the 5, they SHOULD score. We’ve just gotten very used to the opposite.

  27. I Fucking HATE the Cowboys and their self proclaimed America’s team bullshit! If there is anyone on this site that does like them, Fuck You Too!!! The 49ers represent Class and Respect which nobody else seems to have these days in the NFL. Is there any possibility that everyone on here could stop harping on the fact that we have a bad offense, (we heard you) let’s talk about something else.

  28. There was a time in the early 90’s when the 49ers and the Cowboys were the ONLY teams that mattered in the entire league. Everybody knew that one of those two teams would go all the way and that the real Super Bowl was the NFC championship game.

Now the top dogs are the Colts and the Patriots. They’re the only ones that matter now, no one else can compete.

The Cowboys are the most overrated, shitty fucking team ever. Just look who they played in the first 5 games of the season, NOBODY.

Even with our disgusting offense, the 49ers would have gone 5-0 with that joke of a schedule.

The bottom line is that every team in the NFC sucks, or is completely 1 dimensional, so the 49ers need to show the world that when they’re clicking on ALL cylinders, they’ll mop the floor with anyone in the NFC like we all know they can.

    PLAYCALLING
    PLAYCALLING
    PLAYCALLING

  29. Dillon, I agree that a high powered offense will find ways to score on a well equipped defense. Unfortunately, we don’t have a great offence or the best defense in the league. What we do have is great potential on offense, and a very decent defense. With better play calling and some balls, we can move the ball on offense. I think that the defense is playing well enough for us to contend. I guess my point is there is still time to turn it around THIS YEAR, especially in our division.

  30. I agree Alexgrinder, Self Scientific and Goldrusher. I think you guys all have valid points, I’m in my thirtys and I scene alot of shit from those self-proclaimed rednecks. I’m just tired of the Bullshit. We are the standard in football. I believe we’ll improve too, and I hope soon, because once it’s on, man baby it’s on. Get ready NFL!

  31. I agree alexgrinder the Cowboys are the most overated! I hate those fucks!

  32. yea like anyday now would be nice

  33. We are historically bad the last couple of years after bye weeks. This is the most important game of the year thus far. The Giants are an average team, and we have to take it to ‘em.

The Giants are coming off a relatively easy win, so their defense may come into this game a little overconfident. This is our chance to be agressive on offense with alot of shotgun formations and no huddles.

I have to worry if Smith will be all there, and if he is, I hope our O-line can protect him. If they can give him some time, we will win the game no question.

  34. Plus the Giants have a short week, and we had two long weeks.

  35. My big concern is that once again after a bye the 49ers go one the road to the East Coast for an early game. A situation which the 49ers are usually poor.

Is it really that hard to schedule west coast road trips to the east coast as late games?
