MMP: Former OC’s > Nolan
Incase you missed it, two former offensive coordinators under Mike Nolan are now coaching their teams in the AFC and NFC Championship game. And yet the 49ers haven’t made the playoffs in five years.
- Wilbert Montgomery the next RB coach?. (He’s follows Martz around)
- If you want a lower draft pick (28th), you need to root for a Chargers/Giants Super Bowl. (Good luck on that happening)
- Still waiting on the proposal info from Shaun Hill’s camp. (We should hear something anyday now)

The reason why the former OC’s are doing so well is because one of them inherited Brett Favre and the other inherited LT and that impressive defense. We had the worst team in the league when Nolan got us, not a 13 and 3 team that just needed someone to win in the playoffs.
Something else that is ipressive about this is that Nolan seems to make the right call when it comes to OC’s. Holstler really shouldn’t count because he was our only option at this point. So I hope that it continues with Martz. Not the leaving after the one year part, the helping our team part.

martz is committed to us he would never consider leaving especially if we (and i prey to god not!!) have a bad 08 season he could be a front runner to replace nolan so i think we will be seeing alot of martz for years to come GO 49ers

Do you guys think we should draft Bowman or Hardy?
Whuch do you prefer, because Bowman has Terrel Owens skills and Hardy has Randy Moss skills. Which skill is better Owens or Moss? Both Hardy and Bowman are tall big targets, Hardy is 6′7″ and Bowman is 6′4″, but which one should we take?

I think Martz could use either Hardy or Bowman and make them great recivers, for Alex Smith or Shaun Hill. I think Smith may actually be able to flourish under Martz’s offense and his teachings. Once Martz fixes Smith’s mechanics and grip on the ball, he will throw beauties. Alex Smith played in a spread offense in college and I think he could throw 30-40 touchdowns. Before Smith was injured he was actually playing decent. Unfotunatley Hostler was calling the plays then, and the recievers kept dropping the ball in the endzone. After he got injured he looked really screwed up. He didn’t throw the ball even close to the reciever (that is why we need a big target like Bowman or Hardy), and when they did hit the reciever they dropped it. Hardy has better hands than Bowman, but Bowman has more experience and he looks stronger. Still… who should we get…
MSouza is correct our former OCs are getting handed some of the best talent right in front of them. We are still working on getting more talent.

martz would be a fool to leave the niners after the 08 season he so could be a good sucessor to nolan….. if fired then …..
so free agency is on its way and i think we leave out any wide receivers and stick through the draft…. no chad johnson no crazy trades like we did last year #82 no hands we should act aggressivly for defense through free agency
ninersgold | Jan 14, 2008 | Reply
1st round pick and third round pick should be used on defense (Quentin Groves). everything else defense should be attained through free agancy (Lance Briggs) We need to get a DT through the draft. Free agent DTs are not working, unless they are proven good.(albert Hayneworth). Groves would be a great replacement for TBC, at the ROLB posistion. James Hardy has a chance of being available in the second round, and would be a nice weapon for our recieving core. Get a big DT in the third round Pat Sims if available or Balmer. Get Devone Bess if he is available in the fourth, he would be great in this offense, he played in Hawaii’s offense (very similar to Martz’s) and he breaks lots of tackles. Actually get any of the three Hawaii recievers and they would be good weapons for this offense.

i so hate to say this however i woud like to see our first round pick be a def or off lineman and second round pick on a wide receiver

does any else but me know who Trevor Laws is? he would be a great pick-up in the first round if we should go for DT.Incredble athlete, great special teams player, blocks punts,100+ tackles his senior year.

SAME HERE. We can get good recievers in the second round (James Hardy) I think we will pick up Quentin Groves. I like him a lot, his speed with Willis and Lawson, we would have the youngest and fastest linebackers in the NFL. If we get Lance Briggs we could have the linbacking core setup for many years. Our third round pick should be a DT. The rest of the draft should be interesting. I want an offensive guard and DE. I would love for us to get FS Corey Lynch. He is very underated and will be available in the SIXTH-SEVENTH round picks. He is so fast, he is a big hitter, he is just amazing. He is also a apecial teams stud. He blocks field goals, and like I said he is a big hitter. Him with Ulbrich and Keith Lewis on special teams? We need to perfect our defense. Groves could learn a lot from Mike Singletary. I have noticed the pattern, we almost always take a linebacker in the first rounds of the draft. They are the key to the 3-4 defense to work.

ninersgold, why do you like hawaii so much. they are terrible. They just played really bad teams. No one from that team will ever get to start in the nfl for any team. Even the miami dolphins.
ninersgold | Jan 14, 2008 | Reply
I was just saying the WRs that played in Hawaii played in a similar offense. I thought that they could fit in very well. But you are right they played crappy teams. Sould we try to get Berrian to play for us instead? He would fit good in Martz’s passing attack. I think we should go after two recievers in the draft. Hardy and a late pick reciever. Maybe a shorter faster reciever that can complement Hardy’s play.
ninersgold | Jan 14, 2008 | Reply
We should probally wait till next year’s draft. We should go after WR Derrick Williams from Penn State, he is going to be next years Desean Jackson. Great returner, and a good deep threat. Williams is staying for his senior year, unkike Jackson, to improve on being more of a better reciever. He could be a good number 2 or 3 reciever, for us, and he would really complement Hardy or Bowman’s type of play.

I agree with AM about WAC players….they just don’t pan out. The disrespect intended to any of you, but unless they are a mutant o lineman then I say NO TO THE WAC!!! With the 28th pick their are so many options. However, I see it VERY likely (as of now) that we go with a receiver with our first pick and then the most talented player available in the second round. IF we don’t get Briggs then I see us going after Crable from Michigan because his talent level would match up around where our picks will be. Lauranitus isn’t leaving so that also makes the linebacker pook a lot more shallow on the first day.

By the way, I am not trying to burst anyone’s balloon here, but don’t get upset if we take Mario Manningham or another 6′0″ receiver with our first pick. Manningham drops a lot of balls though….Michigan always has quality receivers, but if we get Manningham I am will be the first to say that he HAS ISSUES HOLDING ON TO GOOD THROWS!! Arrington is another guy we could get in the third of fourth round. Now that I think about it….I would be surprised if we go after Quentin Groves because we have Jay Moore and I AM ON JAY MOORE’S BANDWAGON!!!! HE WILL PAN OUT…if he is ever healthy. Did you guys see Mr. Badass Joe Montana on the NFL commercial….I got no beef with that!! That was awesome!!!
AM | Jan 14, 2008 | Reply
We need a reciever that is 6′4″ or taller. Also we need a lightening quick guy. That would help us tons.
MSouza | Jan 14, 2008 | Reply
I agree Ryan with what you are saying about Moore. You can’t say that he won’t pan out already because nobody on this sight has ever seen him play professionally, unless you watched OTAs.

Hey Ninersgold Im pretty sure when the combine comes around that Hardy will move up on the draft boards so im sure we will have no chance at him. Even though I wish we could it probably wont happen maybe Detroit will draft him cause u know they love drafting WRs.

A note on those former SF OC’s: I agree that Turner inherited a good team. Trust me, he is running purely off of a good roster and leftover steam from the Schottenheimer era. I extpect the Chargers to get torched by the Pats and to be a huge disappointment next year. McCarthy, on the other hand, I got to hand it to him. He took a team that basically had Brett Favre and some young talent and molded it into probably the only team left that has a shot at beating the Pats. He is the model of a coach bringing his team up from the mud and into the spotlight, something Nolan is not. Guess we should have hired McCarthy instead of Nolan, huh?
ninerfaithful4ever | Jan 15, 2008 | Reply
mccarthy could have never turn us around he is a loser he just has a very good qb lets just see how many games they win with rodgers running the show>>>>>>>ok we need some updated mock drafts i have searched high and low for some information
Rob | Jan 15, 2008 | Reply
Actually, I beg to differ about McCarthy. Sure, he has a great QB. But, uh, Favre has been in Green Bay for quite a while now. But, the Packers have not even been consistently in the playoffs every year with him, much less looking at going to the Superbowl. I don’t know what he’s doing, but McCarthy has the Packers winning, not just Favre. True, having Favre certainly helps, but it’s McCarthy that got things rolling again in Green Bay. Right now, I would take him over Nolan any day.
