The 49ers won their third game of the season and first victory for interim head coach Mike Singletary. From the first half it was all 49ers. They ran the ball well, passed the ball well and didn’t have any stupid penalties or turnovers that hurt them.

Foster to Backup Gore

Submitted by Niner Pundit on Monday, 25 February 20089 Comments

From John Clayton:

Foster to the Niners? Watch for the 49ers to lock up former Panthers halfback DeShaun Foster to be Frank Gore’s backup in the next couple of days. Foster is a powerful runner who would be a nice complement to Gore. The 49ers made quick contact with Foster once the Panthers released him late last week. The 49ers also worked out a deal with cornerback/kick returner Allen Rossum.

This is a good move as long as they don’t over pay (He won’t get pro bowl pay, but he will want decent money). I am REALLY relieved that MOOSH and Williamson will not be wearing the Red and GOld next year……they just weren’t worth it. TRUST ME!!!! The only names I want to hear the niners sign between now and the free agency deadline are Soap and Stallworth(which I have my doubts about).

I want to see Berrian, Stallworth(who may have very low interest due to the fact that the patriots relesed him last week after they didnt pick up his bonus on the 23th), Isaac Sopogoa, Deshaun Foster, Tim Dwight, Dwight Smith to play FS and Teddy Lehman to play TED in the SF red and gold next season

Allen Rossum is a great deal im very happy about that. Remember he returned a kick against us? What happens to Michael Robinson if we get Foster?

Ryan I agree with u about most things but what has soap done with us a whole lot of dancing? Im just not sure he is worth a big money contract Ive always liked him but he couldnt even beat out a hurt Franklin now he is going to get alot of $ I dont know tough one…

I agree with these moves. Foster is a solid RB, just a little injury-prone. But, that won’t be as much of a problem being a backup. And, Rossum will be a good kick returner. Honsestly, I’m not real sure why the Steelers let him go. But, I agree that they are worth it only if the Niners don’t overpay. I still feel we should keep Micheal Robinson. His value on special teams and for use in trick plays and whatnot is worth keeping him around. I say let Hicks go. His time has passed and he is replaceable.

DeShaun Foster would be a great pickup. He’s a much more reliable runner than Hicks, and would mean if Gore is out or being spelled we don’t lose… like… the entire running game?

Frankie Gizzle doesn’t need a backup what the fuck are they doing if anything they should release all the running backs except Frankie he is the man and is personally offended by having backups unless they are little girls to bring him turkey sandwiches and Iced tea in the huddle during commercial breaks, this teams executives are rifuckingdiculous

  • Niner4Life said:

It is a good pickup if the dollars are right. Foster was the starter last season and to have a full time starter as a backup is always a good thing.

The Rossum signing is a little suspect. When will the Niners learn players do not get faster with age. Because a guy returns one on the Niners doesn’t make him an elite returner, or even a good one for that matter. Michael Lewis now Rossum, who’s next Keith Mitchell?

If we are bringing in old guys then I say bring back Dexter Carter to return kicks and have Deion Sanders play nickle. Sheesh what happened to the Niners finding those washed up players with other teams and resurrecting their careers here. Rossum could be something like this for us this next year.
