Dick Nolan Passes Away
Well a miserable season just got worse - the 49ers have again lost one of their former coaches. Mike Nolan’s father, Dick Nolan passed away Sunday. - he was 75 years old. The elder Nolan had been battling Alzheimer’s disease and prostate cancer for several years, and had been spending the last few months in an assisted-care facility in Dallas.
Nolan was hired as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers in 1968, and he led the team to three consecutive division titles, nearly coaching the team to the Super Bowl twice. As most fans know, his son Mike has been honoring his father by wearing a suit on the sidelines for two games per year - something Dick Nolan was famous for.
Word on the street is that Mike Nolan will indeed coach the 49ers tomorrow night against the Seattle Seahawks. Mike missed practice on Friday and Saturday in order to travel to Dallas to be with his father. Obviously our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, and we hope the team can rally around their coach and give him what would clearly be an emotional victory.
Rest in peace Dick Nolan.
