What We Learned: Rams @ 49ers
Sun, 16/11/08 – 16:31 | 34 Comments

The 49ers won their third game of the season and first victory for interim head coach Mike Singletary. From the first half it was all 49ers. They ran the ball well, passed the ball well and didn’t have any stupid penalties or turnovers that hurt them.

Denise is Pissed

Submitted by Niner Pundit on Tuesday, 20 November 200730 Comments

Seems Eddie D’s sister isn’t going to sit back and keep her mouth quiet this go around. According to an article from the San Francisco Chronicle, Denise DeBartolo York is “devastated” and promises changes are coming.

First on the horizon is that the 49ers will likely hire a strong general manager who would oversee the entire football operation, a move that would strip Nolan, or any other head coach, of player personnel duties.

York indicated the 49ers’ head coach should no longer be the final authority on draft-day or player personnel decisions.

York also knows that many fans and media believe Nolan should be fired, that he is taking the team in the wrong direction and that the recent breakdown in communication between Nolan and Smith regarding the quarterback’s shoulder injury is a sign that the relationship is beyond repair.

With six games remaining this season, York said, now is not the time to determine Nolan’s fate. Denise didn’t say whether or not Nolan would be back this season but she did say this.

“You know, I am going to get into trouble if I start making football decisions one-on-one, by myself,” she said. “But I am thinking that he will.”

I DONT WANT TO SAY THIS BUT MAYBE THEY SHOULD LOSE THE REST OF THERE GAMES SO WE COULD GET A GOOD COACH IN HERE

GIVE THE TEAM BACK TO YOUR BROTHER AND THEN THINGS WILL CHANGE!

I’ve said this many times on this board that they (Yorks)need to strip Nolan of the GM position to allow him to concentrate on coaching and to have someone oversee the major decisions of hiring and drafting player personnel.

A first time HC shouldn’t think he could do it all for a franchise and fan base that demands greatness.

A GM is coming soon to a team near you!!

    Bill Parcells?

Actually this looks more and more promising for Carmen Policy.

on that article it says we might look in the direction of Scott Pioli from the pats

  • LG said:

Well it’s about time someone speaks out! Hiring a GM may be a good step but they really need to make a coaching change. This team has lost confidence in this coaching staff to keep things the same. Something much more is going on internally to be losing so many games…Put it on the bright side the Niners can’t get any worse!

  • ninerfaithful4ever said:

ok i am rollin with denise lets bring in someone who has talent for a wide out that can catch

maybe she does have the balls-pioli would be good

I was watching americas Game 1984 San Francisco 49ers and I was watching how Walsh motivated his team. He said you guys are not liked by anyone and you never will be. People want you to lose and thats that. Eddie De Bartlo would not stand for this bullshit for this many games. I think denise feels like she’s not living up to her familys expectations. We need a need a new good QB, Big tall receivers, and better protection in this upcoming draft. Receivers first followed by QB. This draft should be all about the offense nothing else. We need to make some aquasitions in the offseason, some smart aquasitions, not these meaninglous aquasitiond that we gotton so far like that Mccoy mother. We need to go after players that will truley make a difference. We need big athletes not these short Arena wideouts. We need to aquire a superstar offensive coordinator. I would keep nolan for one more year, because if we release him Jerry fucking red neck jones will probably pick him up for their defensive coordinator job, thats the way it always seems to happen those hillbillies always recruit our men. Look at B.O the traitor, Kosier, Parrish, and the in the past Sanders, Haley and so on. Enough is enough, those bastards always pick up our talented left overs, and we always give up talent and keep the bullshit the last 7 years. If Eddie DeBartlo was here he, he could’nt stand losing and he would not tolerate this B.S., He always said you got to Bring Ass to get Ass. So all you young now it all young guys who think you know everything this shit above can happen with the right decisions and leadership. So get it done 49ers, we suffered enough!

  • Dillon said:

I agree 100% Indiana Jim, I would love to bring back Carmen Policy, he knows whats best for this orginization. He was part of the Eddie DeBartlo legacy, and he will bring this team back to glory, I promise you that. He even wants us to stay at the point, Hunter Point the old shipyard.

  • Dillon said:

We need Scott Pioli or Carmen Policy no one else. This orginization is th Rolls Royce of football. We need the Best of the Best. The 49ers do not lose we win, and the last few years is not the 49ers, its time we come back. With a Consistent winning standard laid down by Policy or Pioli we can bring in the right players and personel. We need to be emotional and passinate about winning like we once were. Eddie hated losing and would not tolerate it or it would be someones Ass, soon. So bring in Pioli or Policy they will reastablish our winning tradition Dynasty. We want the cream of the crop, no more unworthy bullshit. This is the standard in football!

  • Jay said:

Just some food for thought: Pioli is Parcells’ son-in-law. If you want an overhaul, you’ve got a GM, and a new head coach right there who know one another and can work in-sync to get this thing right. Just saying…

THAT’S VERY GOOD TO HEAR WE MIGHT BE BACK STARTING NEXT SEASON YALL!

  • ninerfaithful4ever said:

what if we bumped nolan up to gm and let him and scott keep drafting and scouting for the team we bring marty to instill a winning atmostphere in the locker room and we get a real offensive coordanator i think we could go 12-4 next season and win the west just a though

  • LG said:

What? Your Kidding…What has Nolan done that people still want this guy around so bad??? Smith is a bust! Norv last year saved his job, the defence was not that great also last year, his speciality. Time for change!

  • Don Julio said:

I agree LG this is 49er football our expectations are too high, and the head coach Alex Smith and the receivers, Trent Dilfer all need to really go when it comes down to it. I mainly want to get rid of everyone I just listed, and add a GM like carmen policy or scott pioli no one else because I know those guys are winners and at this point I’m too impatient to take anymore risks and keep waiting.(I want a quicker fix, thats the old 49er way.) The patriots remind me of our selfs in the eighties. I would’nt of said this before but Brady does remind me of Joe Montana. I feel like I’m watching us in the eighties, so I’m rooting for them to kick some countrybunking cowboy-Ass come the superbowl. I hate the Cowboys so much and that traitor B.O., and they are the only team that can really hand them a beating. We need get bake to the glory days. Just imagine how most of these Ex coboy commentators like primarly Deon sanders will feel like whenever were kicking Ass again. Whenever I watch NFL Network Deon never says anything good or positive about his former team the 49ers. He acts like he’s a born again Hillbilly down in Hee-Haw land. I don’t understand that logic. You go from a class orginization, with a kick Ass oner like Eddie D., in a kick ass city with good people and to going to a conservative town, Hillbilly of an owner like jones and you fall in love. Were the draw, I don’t get it. Is their something else going on in that locker room that we don’t know about. Damn! All i got to say is get back to the top fast 49ers I’m tired of seeing highlights B.O. and the Dukes of Hazard Country Bunkins!

THE MAN NEEDS TO GO HE IS A CONFUSIONIST TAKE ALEX SMITH WITH HIM AND HECK FRANK GORE

WE NEED A STRONG RB , TOLNER AS OC , SINGLETORY AS MOTIVATIONAL HC DREW OlSON QB ,
lets play ball . ANY BODY CAN BE MOTIVATED OLSON IS GOOD IF NOT BETTER THAN DILFER SMITH COMBO.
VD BUCKLE UP OR SHIP OUT TOO.

I think we need to put the best players on the field and right now DJAX is on my shit list based on the fact that he doesn’t care when he plays. It is as if he is going through the motions while sleep walking. GET THE HELL OUT OF TOWN DJAX!!! SAME FOR BATTLE!!!! NO MORE MIDGETS WHO CAN’T CATCH!!!! Nolan not being the GM is a MUST DO at the end of the season. We need to seperate him from the power. He IS our coach, but he isn’t cut out to be the GM. Bring in Policy and THE CHIN and watch the changes occur before our very eyes. This STAY THE COURSE crap is garbage because the destination of this course is to possibly be the first pick in the draft. WE ARE THAT BAD ON OFFENSE! You can’t win game by averaging 14 points a game or below (usually). Receivers and O line are needed ASAP!!!!

Then apply for the GM job….Oh that’s right you dont have the qualifications.

Wow, this is gonna get worse before it gets better. I like that someone is FINALLY speaking out on our problem, not saying everything is ” ok “. Denise doesn’t have her head in the sand, she realizes things need to change, and will next season. If you think about it, we do have a lot of pieces for next season, there is no ” starting over “. I think with the right OC, and WR’s who can catch, Smith is the right QB for us. We can’t judge him on this season. He should have never come back from the injury, and the 3 games he did play this season beforehand, he had NO OC. We saw glimpses of what he can do with the right OC last season, and that is what I am rating Alex on. He has potential. Man, he is only 23 !! We need a good OC. This can only be achieved with a Head coach who can pick a OC and draft or FA sign the right WR. I could see, and have read about Holmgren coming over here , but only if it were a GM / HC position. On Defence, we have some good players, good CB’s and a Stud at MLB in Willis. We need to go back to the 4-3 like the glory days. Use Lawson and TBC at rush-end. Douglas will do good along side Franklin at DT. We have Davis and what I think is a good SLOT WR in Battle. The outside WR’s we have to go out and get. All is not lost 49ers faithful, but it wont’ get better this year. We will however win probably 3 more games if our offence can get ANY better than it has been with Tollner helping out. Think about it, if we had ANY offence, we would have beaten BAL, ATL and STL. I for one would have been better off knowing that Smith was done for the year and that we would struggle without him. Not this rollercoaster of thinking he is ok, but clearly knowing he isnt’ watching him, and hearing all this crap about him being a bust. You try throwing with a screwed up shoulder. His thickheaded pride got in the way. He will be fine next year. Nolan has to go, he is waaaay too stubborn. New GM = New Coach = New OC = playoffs !

  • Hawaiian Niner said:

New coach. New O.C. New G.M. Please, Denise I’m glad you’ve finally awaken to this hell we are all dealing with. Maybe you should become a real football fan, move to the Bay and get some passion. Lady you have NO concept of the depths of our problems. If you keep Nolan, your showing your true colors. Your out of touch! Get in the game or sell the club back to your brother, for all of our sakes. Don’t drag our franchise through the mud another day. Give up, go away and take your Avon lady with you. Oh I’m sorry, I mean your inept son. Where does he get off being in the front office. You and the Dr make me ILL!!!!!!!!!

  • jbj49erfaithful said:

First (and I hope I am not getting my expectations up in the moment) but it is about time someone strong (note - a woman, too) is stating the case. Who the heck is the GM anyway? And while Nolan may have wanted to be the face - that can’t be the way - we all have to be managed, as does Nolan.

So Second - I firmly do not believe Nolan should be fired this year (I may feel different next year IF there is strong upper management and presence - setting expectations and addressing the (good and bad) consequences with the coaching staff.

Third - it was good to hear that Nolan hired someone to help Hostler with the game plan - NEEDED.

Fourth - I don’t care for any of the quarterbacks, however, with regards to Alex Smith I would have to follow the same philosophy as with the coaching staff - well, to some degree.

Fifth - fans - don’t give up, please! And a new stadium? Geez - while it would be great and all that, my goodness - to me (personally) fix the issues at hand right now and prove that we’re making movement - the stadium work can be done in parallel and maybe kept under the radar for now.

    Happy Thanksgiving,

    PCA
