Sun, 16/11/08 – 16:31 | 34 Comments

The 49ers won their third game of the season and first victory for interim head coach Mike Singletary. From the first half it was all 49ers. They ran the ball well, passed the ball well and didn’t have any stupid penalties or turnovers that hurt them.

Bryant Suspended 4 Games

Submitted by Niner Pundit on Friday, 22 December 200629 Comments

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the National Football League has suspended San Francisco 49ers WR Antonio Bryant four games as a result of Bryant’s arrest last month on suspicion of drunk driving. Bryant will miss the final two games of this season and the first two games of next year. If the 49ers make the playoffs those games will count against the suspension as well. Bryant will be able to participate in training camp and with the team during the offseason despite the ban.

Yeah…thanks Bryant…for kicking our franchise in the balls after they rewarded you with a contract that was extremely generous!!! Nice to know we can count on your IQ of 81 and your childish immaturity when we needed you the most!!! You should feel good about that!!

    DITTO! WHAT AN IDIOT!!

  • eddie said:

i guess we are gonna have to use vernon davis as ower primary receiver this week like we used eric johnson against arizonia two years ago .unless they double cover him and frank gore than it will have to be a.battle.but i never liked bryant as a number one receiver any way.i agree with ryan and jdubb he is immature and an idiot and thats why dallas and browns got rid off him.right now,all he is to me is another journey receiver who had one one thousand yard year.he only catches two passes a game and a waste of our cap space.i like gilmore or a.battle right now better than bryant.i guess we are gonna have to leave it ub to ower tight ends again.

  • eddie said:

up to ower tight ends again

see this is the time of the year when leadres an play makers step out its also the point of the year were trouble makers cancers to the team step out i give you antonio bryant maybe its not his fault maybe its the jersey the number 81 lol its cruch time with him out so is a big deep threat the rest have to step up majorly its a very young team i see alot i like next year we should win the west 49ers4life

  • eddie said:

doess that mean where ever he starts next year(if we dont make the playoffs).that he is suspended for the first two games off next year?because we only have two games left this year.

  • Richard said:

My 5cents worth… Although the responsability falls directly on Bryant´s shoulders, how come the NFL punishes A Bryant and there seems to be no punishment for other players around the NFL. Is it me, or are they shutting the door on our faces now that we have a shot at the playoffs?

  • eddie said:

looks like wide receiver in the draft. this cumming up year and to me there is a lot off talent.of course you got calvin johnson, dwane jarrettand ted ginn, but there is a lot of dept in this years draft you also have jeff samardzija, markus monk from arkansas he is 6-6ft. with speed you also have L S U dawayne bowe, sidney rice, dallas baker from floridia state and they are all listed at 6-3 with good speed plus there is,ryan moore from miami.i have a good feeling this is a good year for wide receivers in the drart.

  • Ryan said:

The answer to Eddie’s question is yes. If we don’t make the playoffs then Antonio Bryant will miss the first two games.

  • Ryan said:

Yes, the talent is there, but we should have paid Reggie Wayne while he was still thinking of testing the market. Now we have a childish underachieving, mini TO on our hands. I don’t know what to think of our receiver core now. Obviously Vernon Davis is a must, but what of A. Battle and Gilmore…I think they are both done after next season. We need to start thinking fast. In reality I am no general manager, but with the amount of draft picks we have…it might be wise to trade a few of those away to get ourselves another first round draft pick like last year. This is going to be a very deep draft and we have more than enough draft picks to manuever with.

  • Nate said:

Now we can see what Brandon Wiliams can do.This might be a blessing in disguise.

  • Big M said:

Yeah I’m really excited about the receivers in the 07 draft. It looks really deep at that position. This year was weak.

  • 49erFan@SD said:

i’v always hated him ever since he got caught with a DUI, he is a punk that cost us our playoff hopes.

  • ddushey said:

Bryants hasn’t done a WHOLE lot, the niners will continue to run the ball and arnaz battle will step up and be the team’s best receiver. Bryant is a dumbass and it’s not that big of a loss for us.

  • eddie said:

i would be surprized if they use brandon williams as a wide receiver. they only use wide receivers that can block.the only way they will use williams is in a 4 wide receiver set as the forth receiver .they will use battle, gilmore and jacobs taylor.i think they should move vernon davis, split him out wide and let him go deep.

  • snowman215 said:

god dammit…at least TO stayed on the damm field

  • eddie said:

i guess we will find out how good some of the back up wide receivers are.we play one off the worst pass defenses in the league this week. then go to dever to go against the number one corner in the league champ bailey and darrent willians and saftey john lynch.and ill find out how much alex smith has really learned with out #81 on the field.

  • Ryan said:

yeah, don’t expect a big performance from the receivers in that one….

  • john said:

im probably wrong on this but didnt shawne merriman get a 4 game suspension for STEROIDS? for some reason i dont equate a drunk driving incident with steroids…

  • Ryan said:

Yes, I agree on that one, John. But, what you have to realize is that the NFL is kind of a joke on the substance abuse policy. First of all…you bring up a good point…second of all…don’t expect them to do anything about it. Shawn Merriman DID STEROIDS and he is still allowed to play the game THIS season and is still allowed to start in the PRO BOWL. THIS IS WRONG…but the one thing the NFL isn’t known for is punishing players who fuck up….look at the bengals for GOD’S SAKE. Have they done anything with that organization??? NO and it is so outrageous…as long as they make plays and make people watch…expect nothing to happen to them period. Where as Antonio did something off the field…ONCE…and they lay the lumber on him. That’s the NFL for you…spit in someone’s face…it will cost you 35,000 dollars, but does that make a difference when you are making over 25 million over three year (maybe I am wrong about that contract…the numbers seem wrong to me, but I am sure I am close). That is like a slap on the wrist.

  • Uh said:

john is probly correct - it’s not related to the DUI. Nolan said it’s not; and the court has not yet convicted him of wrongdoing, so it would be premature to suspend him (remember - innocent ’till proven guilty). The NFL’s substance abuse policy (for what he was suspended) probably relates to their own testing. Whether for steroids, pot, meth - whatever - he probably should have used a whizzinator…

  • robert said:

four games seems hardish… i mean chris henry got only two games same issue… Bryant is making some dumb ass mistakes but the nfl needs to get their polycies straight

See the news report from henrys suspension

  • eddie said:

doess any one know if he is going to apeal it or not?

  • Ryan said:

All of these comments are solid…especially the link. I don’t want to defend Antonio, but when Merriman does what he did and WILL STILL DO, Chris Henry does the same thing, and there countless more brainless “Thugs” doing stupid crap in “DA CLUB” why is Bryant getting slapped with 4 GAMES??? He didn’t do steriod…yeah, he got a DUI, but what does that have to do with him on the field…Merriman did something that gives him an UNFAIR ADANTAGE over other athletes, but its cool. Hell, let him play in the pro bowl, too. Let’s forget the fact that he CHEATED AND GOT CAUGHT!!!

  • eddie said:

and dont you think that half the begals team should be suspended.at least he didnt kill any body like ray lewis.

  • Pete Rozelle said:

How about at least waiting for a conviction before meting out punishment? Innocent until PROIVEN guilty. I guess it is better thsi year than next but c’mon NFL. Plus I guess it is better to spit in someones face that do something bad off the field. What a joke

  • kyle said:

we should just retire the 81 jersey,no not retire it because if you retire a jersey it was a stud player that used that jersey,we should burn it because it only brings us bad luck and bad memories.

  • kyle said:

remember earlier this year when that lineman from the titans stomped on that guys head and could of killed him and he got suspended for 4 games…now they’ve won like 7 games in a row.
