What We Learned: Rams @ 49ers
Sun, 16/11/08 – 16:31 | 34 Comments

The 49ers won their third game of the season and first victory for interim head coach Mike Singletary. From the first half it was all 49ers. They ran the ball well, passed the ball well and didn’t have any stupid penalties or turnovers that hurt them.

At the Half. Not One Single 1st Down

Submitted by Niner Pundit on Monday, 12 November 200717 Comments

Well I jumped the gun on saying they didn’t get a first.

This is the worst team in the history of the NFL. No first downs, can’t score when on the 31. Can’t cover. Can’t pass rush. Can’t call plays. Can’t even get a punt off without a delay of game.

If Nolan keeps his job after the season, there is something seriously wrong.

Does anyone else notice that Smith holds the ball forever. Held the ball on a 7 man blitz while a short out on the right was wide. What was with the long snapper getting us a delay. And lastly, where is the effort.. I see people walking back and forth like they dont give a damn..omg

correction got 1 first down it just happened to be the last frigin play of the half.
I tried to stay optimistic but I MEAN COMMON. i dont but this on alex smith at all. he’s getting maybe 2 frigin seconds to look down field. Our offensive line is garbage no one is blocking anyone no less picking up any type of blitz. our recievers couldnt find an opening if they were told exactly where one was.
need to keep in extra blocker to smith has time to even look down field

These guys don’t deserve to wear that uniform!!! What an embarassment

If you time the amount of time smith is gettin to hold the ball its maybe 3 seconds. where average qb will get atleast 4.5. while a second an a half doesnt seem like alot time wise. football wise its quite a long time.
by the time he gets out of his drop. he’s gettin hit.

I was seriously calling for a field goal as soon as they took over at the 31. I feel sick from looking at this season. It’s hard to believe we are this bad after we spent all that money in the off-season. I hope Alex learns quickly that he only has 1 second to get rid of the ball. After that, tuck and run!

I’m starting to think that Notre Dame would have a shot to get a win against the Niners. Such a lack of effort, emotion and HEART!!!

We need to pay Bill Cower. Who agrees?

    Alex Smith Sucks…

We need a new QB one who knows whats going on around him and one that can get some air under the ball. New QB= Some more wins for the Niners.

dude we got to play crazy and angry football, go for it on 4th down!, do onside kicks!, we are fricken going to score!!!!!

  • ninerfaithful4ever said:

fuck me fuck me fuck me why does this always happen

  • Indiana Jim said:

We went for it on 4th and 1 and got absolutely no push. We went for it on 4th and 3 and Battle dropped a ball thrown right where it needed to be. Most drops in the league! Pass rushers coming free! And yes… no one can get open.

    Pathetic. And I’m an optimist.

man what the niners need to do is first is to fire mike nolan he is not proven to be a good head coach because he has no clue about what the offense is doing, and how to manage it because they are in last place in the nfl for every stat in offense and also hiring Jim Hostler as the off cord. was a big mistake

  • niner boy said:

alex smith really sux we need a new qb he is very in inconsistent keesps underthrowing and overthrowing passes and does not make great decisions and surly has gotten alot worse this season and dont blame all of the problems on the off- line because smith latley has had many chances to score or complete passes

  • Mike said:

as far as nolan picking hostler for off. co. i can’t put full blame on him. turner left so late on thats not his fault. he requested interviews with other coaches from other teams but unless its a head coaching spot the other teams can refuse to have there coaches interviewed. so nolan was pretty much had hostler or nothing.
I still think give nolan one more year. if next year this is bad then he’s gotta go but every year he has improved team up till this year to where he replaced most of his coaching staff. now defensive coordinator he got the chance to pick of the liter out there and our def isnt really the problem. def actually playing pretty well and if they were off the field more would be even better but since off. cant move ball def is on field alot.
I give nolan another year. to many people are jumping on him to get fired to quick b/c of a shit year when he has improved team each year before hand.

alex smith i mean its hard to learn from 3 dif coaches in 3 years not to mention 3 diff play books and play calling methods. not easy for a qb to come into the league with. He is very intelligent and reads defenses pretty well. but he has no time to even throw that an fact that a wr cant get open give him not much to do with the ball. If can get in another off coo. which will be #4 in 4 years. I think smith could turn it around. again dont think he will ever be hof type but he could be a decent to good starter. he showed that when turner was here. talent like that doesnt fade in one year. plus he’s only 23 years old. most rookie qbs are his age. i give him an nolan one more season but if next year is just like this then its time for them to both go.
