Sun, 16/11/08 – 16:31 | 34 Comments

The 49ers won their third game of the season and first victory for interim head coach Mike Singletary. From the first half it was all 49ers. They ran the ball well, passed the ball well and didn’t have any stupid penalties or turnovers that hurt them.

Around Ninerland: Quick Hits

Submitted by FNN Staff on Thursday, 10 January 200814 Comments

It’s only been two days since the 49ers announced Mike Martz as their offensive coordinator and the consensus seems that Nolan (the 49ers) and Martz are not a good fit. There are a few that feel this will work, but most think the 49ers do not have the personnel that suits Martz’s needs. Here are some other quick hits Around Ninerland.

  • Pete Hoener has been retained as the tights ends coach. Runningbacks coach and OL asst are the only positions that need to be filled at this time.
  • Duane Carlisle takes over for Johnny Parker as the team’s strength and conditioning coach.
  • According to Faulk, Martz’s offense will ‘blow your mind’.
  • Willis makes first team All-Pro, a rarity for a rookie.
  • Oh yeah Andy Lee made the All-Pro team as well.

I think Martz is just what the team and Nolan needs to wake up and smell the coffe that the Offense is not going any where without a leader. Nolan move over and let Martz do his OC the way the 49ers need it.

I heard some reports that Martz had an attitude when he was with Detroit. But who knows if that’s true. And maybe he needed time to come down after leaving the head coach of the Rams.
And maybe Nolan will leave him alone to call the offensive plays that Nolan was too afraid to….
Or maybe we’ll have a knockdown dragout fight on the sidelines…LOL

Either way it will be more entertaining than run run pass punt

I’m just worried about our personnel. I think we are a few WR’s short of what Martz needs. However, everybody seems to be overlooking that Lelie should be back and we have Jason Hill who did not get much PT last year. Also, I’m most interested in seeing how Martz will use Vernon Davis. Look for a breakout year next year with him. Other than the personnel issues, I’ve gotten excited over the past few days after I thought about it. At first I hated it. But it can’t get any worse than last year right?

you know, this site used to have the fastest updates and newest info on the 49ers, now it’s always behind and just links to everyone else’s blogs and news stories……makes me sad……..

  • NinerPundit said:

Sorry JW…we’ll try harder to make you happy. Aside from that nothing really groundbreaking happening around Ninerland so we figured we’d just throw out the latest tidbits….but of course I’m sure you could go to Webzone or Paradise and get the newest info…oh wait they link more articles than we do…..

Also you probably didn’t notice we had the Martz as OC on the site minutes after Schefter reported it….before other 49er sites (ie: Barrows, Maiocco, and the rest)

It’s cool Pundit… this site is great. I come here at least once a day, and rarely hit up any other Niner sites anymore. Keep up the good work!

Faulk thinks that VD will be used sometimes as a slot reciever. This is scary because we all know that he is a walking matchup issue and if teams try and put corners on him, he will run them over.

JW - How much do you pay to use this site? They are doing a good job.

JW NinerPundit is a god to us and i would trade my wife away before i would go to any other web site for my niner addiction …. hell there is even nights i sneak in the lap top to bed to get my fix on LOL NINERPUNDIT for President

‘Trade my wife away’ LOL You guys are killin me…

  • Zack said:

Greg Olson is a free agent who was from the rams we could use as quarterback coach.make Jerry Rice our wide receiver coach and get a new asistant offensive lineman coach……in my opinion any ways.

  • Niner Pundit said:

Why would we want Greg Olson back? He has already been QB coach here once ‘01.

  • Rochester said:

Lets everyone give Martz a chance, it can’t get any worse. The passing game is going to be better, that’s a given.

What’s happening with Singletary? I’d like to see him given a shot in Nolan’s place. I’m afraid somebody else is going to snap him up before next year.

  • ninerfaithful4ever said:

rochester no teams have requested permission to speak with him… we could hang on to him another year because i know BIG POPPIN #52 would benifet also .. But i do agree with you on him being a HC for us he was the one i was in favor to replace nolan
