Alex Smith’s Injury
Many of you have been asking for updates on Smith.
As of right now, there are few concrete details to report. I’ve heard some places he’s out for the season, I’ve heard others that he might just miss one game. Piece of advice for all of you - disregard all of those reports.
The only thing that is certain at this point is that he separated his shoulder. Alex is going in for an MRI tomorrow (Monday) to determine the degree if separation in the shoulder, so the team can make a determination on exactly how long he might be sidelined.
Mike Nolan has said that it is highly unlikely that Smith will play next week vs. Baltimore, so we should see Trent Dilfer under center next week.
49ersnews will provide you with updates as we come across them, but don’t expect any real news until the MRI is performed tomorrow. Lets pray Dr. House is on duty in that hospital.

Dilfer played really bad an I knew he would…..hopefully all the Alex critics will see how voluble he is to our team now…….are 3rd stringer QB can run the offense better than Dilfer in my opinion…..its definitley the O- Line but its also the Qb’s holding the ball too long we need to do 1 step drops an throw quick passes on slant routes to avoid the pressure and sacks ……when they blitz like seattle was doing theres a man open somewhere ….hopefully Alex comes back real soon

IF SMITH IS OUT 4 SEASON THEN WE WILL FINISH 2-14 CAUSE THAT AWFUL QB DILFER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. IM PRAYING ALEX COMES BACK. ALEX HATERS WERE U AT IF HE PLAYED WE WOULD HAVE WON LOOK HOW MUCH BETTER HE IS THEN DILFER

Okay, after reading everyone’s comments regarding Smith and Dilfer and so on, here are some positive thoughts to chew on.
Let’s pray that it’s a mild seperation and he’ll be back after the bye week.
Then if Dilfer can watch some film, (see how bad he was) work with the first team players in practice and use the motivation that he’s playing his old team, then maybe we’ll pull out a 13-10 win over Baltimore. (did you see how bad they looked versus Cleveland?)
Then with Seattle losing on the road in Pittsburgh then we’ll have a share of the lead going into our BYE week. 3-2. Not bad.
That’s the BEST case senerio and hopefully we’ll get BOTH Smith and V.D. back for the Giants game!!
Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go pray to the Football gods for all of this to happen!!

Dilfer was in his first real game in two years. He’s 35 or so. He is what he is now, a backup quarterback. If this was New England he’d do okay. Dilfer’s problem is that this is San Francisco and the Niners’ O line is playing very badly.
Despite player comments, either the line has gotten football stupid over the summer, some of the guys have gotten old, the coaching is terrible, or the offensive coordinator can’t react to blitzing and loading the box.
I’d sit Allen. Next would be Smiley and Heitmann. No way I’d put Kwame in unless it’s conceivable that Staley can be moved to the left tackle. Meanwhile, Nolan needs to figure out what’s wrong with George Warhop’s coaching and whether he needs to be benched.

Man, if we stink it up this year and give the Pats a top ten pick then I am going to explode.

…..sigh…..

Bob…don’t think they’ll need to ever put Harris back in. If you move Staley to LT than you use Snyder at RT, but knowing Nolan he’d leave Staley at RT and put Snyder at LT.

Maybe this will be what this team needed, an asskicking to bring them and us back to reality. I think that if Smith does come back he will take this season on his shoulders and get us back where we need to be. IF he comes back! Everybody talking shit about Dilfer’s performance should take a second and think, wasn’t he always considered the worst QB to ever win a superbowl? What did you expect? Did you really think he was gonna do anything? The sad thing is that that actually was a great game for him, right up his alley. That is probably the best game he has or will ever play again in his life, only 2 int’s and more than 100 yards throwing he should go to the hall of fame for that performance as far as his career goes. The only difference is that he had the best defense ever in the NFL on his side and we are a good defense but not the best in the NFL. In order to salvage this season we need to get to the point that we only give up 3 points or less or we will be 2-14. This really does suck!

Why do I keep hearing people talk about VD in a good way? As far as I’m cocerned, he sucks! He catches 50% of the passes thrown to him and cries about not getting the ball. Maybe he doesn’t get the ball beacause he doesn’t catch. How many drops in the end zone has he had this year and last year? The guy has all the talent in the world but needs to worry about his catching skills and not talking shit to the media about getting him more involved. Another thing, fuck Battle he sucks and can’t get open at any time he is a 4th string WR at best, enough sugar coating the fact that these recievers suck. Why is it that every other team in the NFL has recievers that can get open and we don’t. BECAUSE OUR’S SUCK THAT’S WHY! I don’t care if he’s been with the team for 50 years FUCK HIM! If BY didn’t produce he would be cut too but he has always produced. To be a starting WR in the NFL you have to be good, not just a nice guy or a “leader”. The guy has never done anything good for us, even last year when we had a chance at coming back against Arizona to stay in the hunt for the playoffs and he fumbled. What kind of leader is that HE SUCKS! Matter of fact, all of our recievers SUCK! They’re all midgets and at least they could be fast if they’re not tall but they are neither. OUR TEAM SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Quarterback Alex Smith will miss the San Francisco 49ers’ game against Baltimore on Sunday, but won’t need surgery on his separated right shoulder.
Coach Mike Nolan said Monday the 49ers won’t set a target return date for Smith until Thursday, when the swelling subsides in his shoulder.
Though similar injuries sometimes require two to three months of recovery, Nolan expressed hope Smith might even return by Oct. 21, when the 49ers visit the New York Giants in their first game after a bye week.
Smith was hurt on the third play of the 49ers’ 23-3 loss to Seattle on Sunday when 308-pound defensive tackle Rocky Bernard landed on him while sacking him.
Trent Dilfer, who got his first game action since 2005 in relief of Smith, will get the start against the Ravens, the team Dilfer led to its only Super Bowl victory.
