The 49ers won their third game of the season and first victory for interim head coach Mike Singletary. From the first half it was all 49ers. They ran the ball well, passed the ball well and didn’t have any stupid penalties or turnovers that hurt them.

49ers Draft Joe Cohen at 135

Submitted by Niner Pundit on Sunday, 29 April 200739 Comments

With their last pick in the 4th round, No. 135 overall, the 49ers select DT Joe Cohen out of Florida.

GIL BRANDT’S ANALYSIS
Cohen (6-4½, 313; 5.10) was a backup to Marcus Thomas, and when Thomas was suspended, Cohen became a starter. People think his best position in the NFL will be defensive end, but he has enough strength to play tackle.

  • Desert9er said:

We pick #10 in the 5th and #12 in the 6th and that’s it. No 7th.

  • Dre said:

we pick 147 in 5th coming up in about 6 picks

  • jr said:

I thought there was no sixth and had 2 sevenths did they trade up or something

  • NinersRule said:

I think all we need now is a backup for Gore and Robinson. Great draft!! Manusky will have plenty of talent to turn our D around from 26th to top 5!!!!

  • NinersRule said:

We have pick 147 and pick 186. That is it. No 7th rounder.

  • jr said:

Don’t you think we could grab a qb did matt moore get selected he’s from oregon state

  • Desert9er said:

No, we had 1,2,3,3,4,4,4,4,5,6. We lost a 4th for Darrell Jackson. Also gave up a 4th and next year’s 1st to get move into the bottom of the 1st and then got a 4th back and a 1st next year for our 2nd. So we’ll end up 1,1,3,3,4,4,4,5,6.

According to old scout.com info, this guy was highly recruited as a stud power running FB and a defensive lineman in High School. Played D-Line for Gators. It’s a huge reach but with his size, I wonder if this guy, being a former FB could handle goal line carries and play defense too?

  • Dre said:

i definately think we should address CB before we address 3rd sting RB

    Joe Cohen
    Height: 6-21/2 | Weight: 315 | 40-Time: 5.11

    Official Bio

    Strengths:
Very good athlete…Has nice size and bulk…Versatile…Mobile with good range…A great motor…Quick and explosive…Hard worker with top-notch intangibles…He is developing physically and getting bigger…Still improving and has some potential.

    Weaknesses:
He needs to get stronger…Awareness and instincts are sub par…A ‘tweener who may not have a true pro position…Has some health and durability concerns…Was not very productive…Isn’t stout versus the run…Should be a better pass rusher.

    Notes:
A top recruit coming out of high school who actually began his college career on offense as an H-back…Started at defensive end in 2004 and 2005 before moving inside to tackle as a senior…Could be an interesting big school sleeper if his hips check out with team doctors…Possible candidate for a 3-4 scheme?…Underrated.

  • Ryan the 1st said:

Brown is REALLY talented, but he DOES HAVE ISSUES and DID get in trouble when he was with Texas.

  • Matt said:

He is only 5′10″, I though Nolan wanted big corners.
