49ers Did Not Sign Trent Green
This time of year rumors are flying rampant and this particular site, TheRumorGuy.com has a single quick news line that says. The 49ers have signed QB Trent Green to a one year deal. Well I’m happy to say after a few phone calls that the Rumor Guy is full of crap. Thank God for that. The 49ers do not need another old, aging quarterback named Trent.

he could be a good possible mentor for alex and shaun since they have never played in the martz offense.. green would be a hell of alot better than dilfer ..

Yeah, I think this would actually be a good idea. Of course, Green would be our third string, no more than that. But, he has been in the Martz offense before, even though it was years ago in St. Louis. I say, if he comes at a good price (and he should), go for it.

On ESPN, John Clayton stated that the San Francisco 49ers will be one of the first teams to be active once free agency begins. He believes that their first move will be the signing of Bengals defensive end Justin Smith.
Clayton added that Smith is expecting a call from the 49ers the minute FA starts, and his contract may be worth up to 8-8.5 million a year. Free agency begins today at 9:01 pm Pacific.
It has been widely believed that the 49ers would make a strong push for Smith and that the team had already had initial contract talks with the scheduled free agent.

I actually saw the post on therumorguy.com, I’m a frequent reader of the site and this is the first time that there has been false news on the site. but the quick news had said that profootballtalk.com was the source of the rumor… so dont just start blaming random people without all of the information.

thank god! even if he is our 3rd string QB with how bad our line was last year and “chris weinke” ended up being the starting quarterback after we went through 4 QB’s he might even play this year…

49ers Guy…didn’t see any mention of ProFootballTalk on RumorGuy.com. But I did notice they removed the Quick News, guess they realized they were full of crap.

Trent Green? Good God, hell no. I’d rather get a guy in the later rounds and let him ride the bench and maybe learn something before he gets thrown in there. You know, like they used to do? Anyway, it’s a bullshit rumor so who cares. Tomorrow should be interesting.

He is a veteran and he knows Martz’s system. By the way Trent Green is a way better Qb than Trent Dilfer was. Dilfer was NEVER a good QB, even the Superbowl was purely won from their defense. Green was a good QB often underrated, but lately he hasn’t done much. He is very old too, but he does again, know Martz’s system, he would be like the Issac Bruce, but for QBs instaed of WRs, it makes sence, as long as he doesn’t play. I know we have O’Sullivan, but he is younger, and I don’t know how much of Martz’s offense he knows, he doesn’t have nearly as much experience as Green does with Martz’s schemes though. Sullivan had him last year, Green had him for quite a few years.
Green would be a veteran teacher to QBs about Martz’s offense, he can play solid backup, he would be a 3rd stringer
Bruce is a veteran teacher (but he can still play good) to WRs about Martz’s offense
