What was almost a foregone conclusion in Santa Clara, was all but solidified this morning when 49ers GM John Lynch went on KNBR with the Murph and Mac Show.
The fact that the team has signed two free agent quarterbacks since the new league year began speaks to Kaepernick having played his last snaps in a 49ers uniform.
There is also this, Lynch, VP of Player Personnel Adam Peters, Senior Personnel Executive Martin Mayhew, and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello will be traveling to the east coast next week to watch potential draft picks, Deshaun Watson (private workout), Mitchell Trubisky, and DeShone Kizer (pro days).
“We’re going to go see these guys, kind of get to know them,” Lynch said. “The film speaks for itself. But there’s always great value of seeing someone in person, maybe catching something you didn’t on film.
What Lynch said when pressed about the chances of Kaepernick resigning with the team, leaves little to the imagination.
“I think the likelihood of that happening has probably gone down significantly. But we’re not going to close our mind or our options on anyone, including him.”
Obviously, Lynch stopped just short of hammering in the last nail on the coffin that has become Kaepernicks 49ers career, however we can read between the lines. Lynch said what he had to say here.
Up until last week his team had no quarterbacks on the roster. The two that he has signed leave more than a few question marks as to whether or not they can lead this team in 2017.
That being said, Lynch doesn’t have the luxury of discounting any other free agent quarterbacks still on the market to the media. Behind closed doors though, one can surmise that book has been closed, never to be opened again.
