Free Agency is almost a week old now and based on reports the 49ers are still looking at cornerbacks and safeties. Here are the moves the 49ers have made so far this offseason.
The 49ers lost a few of their own free agents.
Those are the biggest names of the 49ers on the free agent market and the 49ers really did not focus that much on re-signing them, instead they hit the free agent market and looked for players who would fit their system and come at a reasonable price. Current reports have the 49ers showing interest in Charles Woodson and Nnamdi Asomugha, but at this time they are letting both players visit other teams and see if they get the offers they are looking for. If either of those players want to play for the 49ers, they’ll most likely only get a one-year deal at a reduced rate. If the 49ers don’t sign another safety or cornerback, they have 14 draft picks to fill those needs.
As we know from two years ago GM Trent Baalke isn’t going to break the bank for free agents, but instead sign players that are coming off injury, are deemed a bust, or have been out of football for a year. We as fans would love for Baalke to sign some big name players, but we have to be patient and let the cards fall where they may. At this time the 49ers are sitting around $5.5 million under the salary cap and at this time we have to sit back, grab our popcorn and enjoy the show.
