49ers sign Ian Williams to two-year extension
The 49ers made a move today that is shows it is preparing for life after Ricky Jean-Francois and Isaac Sopoaga. They signed NT Ian Williams to a two-year contract extension. The extension is worth $3.2 million, with a $1 million guarantee.
We are very pleased to extend the contract of a young, talented player like Ian, general manager Trent Baalke said. He will have the opportunity to continue to grow in our defense, and we look forward to his future development.
Both Sopoaga and Jean-Francois are free agents and not sure if either of them will be back. Reports are that RJF is commanding a lot of attention and I don’t see the 49ers getting into a money battle for his services.
With this extension look for Williams to take on a bigger role in the upcoming season…
Proud to be apart of this organization, city and fan base for another few years! Just got done signing my extension! #49ers #GrindTime
