Phil Dawson come on down, you are the next contestant to kick for the 49ers. Today, free agent Pro Bowl kicker Phil Dawson announced on Twitter that he was taking his talents to the Bay.

Dawson was the top kicker on the free agent market and signing with the 49ers, he reunites with his former special teams coach Brad Seely.

Some quick stats on Dawson:

  • Since 2011, Phil Dawson has made 14 of 15 FG attempts from 50-plus yards.
  • Had spent 14-year career with Browns. Ranked second in FG percentage (93.5) in 2012 and Akers finished 30th in the same category (69%).
  • He made the 2012 Pro Bowl for first time in his career.
  • FG attempts from 40 yds past two seasons w/Browns: 27 of 29.

One thing is certain this offseason, the 49ers are completely revamping their special teams. Dawson, along with Stuka and Dahl. The Tony Montana Squad will certainly look different.
