Gameday Ticket Preview: 49ers vs Packers

The San Francisco 49ers welcome the Green Bay Packers in a rematch of their week one battle during the 2012 NFL regular season. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers will look to avenge the 30-22 loss at Lambeau Field, while the 49ers, backed by the young Colin Kaepernick, will try to vault themselves to their second NFC Championship game in as many years.

This is obviously a huge game in the playoffs, but this one carries even more weight with the added revenge factor for Green Bay, as well as the notion that the winner could easily represent the NFC in this year’s Super Bowl. Not surprisingly, this is the most expensive playoff game of the week at an average of $353/ticket, with a get-in price tag of $165. The price is good enough to be 95% more than average price for regular season San Francisco 49ers tickets, while it rests at 11% more than Green Bay’s regular season road average. Prices for the game have risen 35% over the last two weeks, but have begun falling, dropping 4% since Tuesday.

While Green Bay boasts an explosive offense and is one of the hottest teams in the league, this one is all about San Francisco’s elite defense standing it’s ground at home, and their balanced offense doing the rest. All eyes will surely be on second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who took over for Alex Smith near mid-season and helped the 49ers win the NFC West division crown and reach the playoffs for the second year in a row. However, that won’t be enough to appease fans. Kaepernick and co. will have to beat Green Bay and advance before they can even start to deem 2012 as a successful season.

Something worth noting will be tight end Vernon Davis’ impact on this game, as the 49ers will likely need to be on top of their game in every regard to oust the Packers. Properly utilizing Davis, which they haven’t done in over six weeks, could end up being one of the keys to this NFC divisional battle.
