49ers sitting at 2 and 0 after win over Lions

The Lions came into Candlestick and left with a L. The 49ers beat the Lions 27-19 and Alex Smith showed again that he is more than just a game manager.

Alex Smith finished the day 20-31 for 226 and 2 touchdowns and outplayed Matthew Stafford, who the 49ers made look like a backup. Stafford came into the game throwing over 350 yards for five consecutive games. Today he left with 230.

The defense did the bend dont break all game and kept the Lions out of the endzone until late in the 4th. Even though Calvin Johnson had 8 receptions for 94 yards, he was a non factor and the defense made him look more like Johnny 5 instead of Megatron.

On the offensive side of the ball, Alex continued to make good decisions. He now sits at I believe 216 attempts without an interception. Smith’s numbers could have been better, but the 49ers receivers/runningbacks dropped seven passes. When the offense needed a score to go up 15. Alex led the team with help from Michael Crabtree, Frank Gore and the big touchdown play by Vernon Davis. Speaking of Michael Crabtree, he stepped up big time tonight and had three clutch third down receptions that led to the Davis touchdown drive.

The 49ers head into a two game road stretch against the Vikings and the Jets.
