Aaron Wilson who covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Baltimore Sun is reporting that the 49ers have traded safety/special teams ace Colin Jones to the Panthers for a seventh round draft pick. The seventh round pick most likely is for 2014, as the Panthers traded away their 2013 seventh to the Raiders for Louis Murphy.
Jones was a sixth round pick of the 49ers in the 2011. Jones did not see any playing time at the safety position, he was used primarily on special teams where he became one of the teams aces on their ‘Tony Montana Squad.’
Jones had a good chance of making the 53-man roster, so with this trade it appears as if Baalke and Co, felt the team had someone they could use more than just special teams to fill his void.
