Just How Good was Aldon Smith

We aren’t going to go to in depth on just how good a season Aldon Smith had by breaking down plays and such, we are just gonna point out the highlights. Info collected from Bob Lange, 49ers PR man and Harbaugh bodyguard…

  • Finished one sack shy of NFL rookie sack record. Jevon Kearse (14.5)
  • Broke Charles Haley rookie sack record of 12 set in 1986.
  • 14 of his sacks were registered in the last 13 games.
  • Those sacks came while only playing 48.22 percent of the defensive snaps.
  • Two players logged more sacks after Aldon got his first in Oct. Jared Allen (17.5) and Demarcus Ware (14.5)
  • Sacks in 9 of 16 games with 5 multiple sack games.
  • Outside of sacks. 37 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 safety, and 4 pass defended
  • Won rookie of the month honors twice this year.

Aldon came in and gave the 49ers something they haven’t had in many years and that is a true legit pass rusher. Just imagine what he can do once he gets more years under his belt and more defensive snaps.

Aldon should be a lock to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, but the debate is Von Miller should get it because he was an every down player. All the voters have to do is look at the stats. Aldon should win hands down.

Wonder how this Niner fan is feeling right about now…

The Pundit of 49ersNews. I do what I can to supply the Niner fans with their fix.
