So Much For that Dream Team. 49ers Beat Eagles 24-23

If you were to tell me the 49ers would win back to back road East Coast games (1st time since 2001) while giving up 400 yards passing by Michael Vick, down 20-3 at half and miss two field goals. I would have laughed in your face. Well the 49ers did just that.

The game started ugly, the offense couldn’t get it going, the defense gave up yards, but not touchdowns. The Eagles went into half up 20-3 and the game looked like it was over. But something happened after halftime that no one could imagine. Alex Smith went 9 for 9, 179 yards and 2 touchdowns in the third quarter. The 49ers went into the 4th quarter only down by 6.

I thought for sure the defense was going to give it up or somehow Alex would turn it over, but that didn’t happen. The defense stopped and Eagles head coach settled for field goals, which came back to haunt him. Twice the Eagles could have put the game away but their rookie kicker missed two field goals. Giving the 49ers a chance to win this game. After that missed field goal the 49ers run game got going and they pounded it down and scored on a big run by Frank Gore. The 49ers got the lead 24-23 and 3 minutes away from victory.

The Eagles dumped passes off and picked up yards and yards and were close to field goal range, but the play of the game came from Justin Smith running his ass off and forcing a fumble on Jeremy Maclin and the 49ers recovered. A couple of first downs later the 49ers got to run off the clock and head back to the West Coast with a 3-1 record, and the Dream Team Eagles fall to 1-3.
