The 49ers did not really anything to play for except for pride and possibly to show their next head coach that if it is done right they can win and win big.
The 49ers came into the game minus Mike Singletary and from the opening minutes it showed. The team had a total different feel for it. It seemed like Tomsula came in let the coaches coach and the players play. Which is something Singletary never did.
With the 49ers win they’ll end up picking around No. 10 in the NFL Draft.
One thing that was different about this game that we haven’t seen when Singletary was head coach was the play of Alex Smith. He finished the game with solid numbers and there seemed to be a more relaxed Smith out there. Of course it was probably because there was really nothing to play for and perhaps more of auditioning for other teams.
In the end the team showed they have talent and can come together and win, now it is up to a new head coach to take that and keep it intact.
Hopefully Jim Harbaugh is watching and he sees this team has talent, it’s just they need someone to put their stamp on it. Basically a real head coach.
