Put Up or Shut Up

Its time for the 49ers to put up or shut up. Their dim playoff hopes are still alive in the weak NFC West but it will take winning at least 3 out of the next 4 and some luck to make it happen. The 49ers need to beat Seattle, St.Louis and Arizona and would at least have the best record within the division. Barring a miracle against San Diego however, they would likely end up 7-9 overall and need both the Rams and Seahawks to only win 1 of their remaining 4 games. The 49ers on paper do have the easiest schedule of the three teams, but as we have seen with the preseason predictions and rankings, paper doesn’t mean much in the NFL (unless its green).

Whether or not everything falls into place the next few weeks, one thing is certain, Mike Singletary’s coaching clock is ticking away. With Singletary naming Alex Smith the starter this week, and barring injury for the rest of the season, it seems fitting those two will go out together. Singletary’s dead weight was already being pulled off Golden Gate bridge , now he has grabbed Alex Smith to drop into NFL abyss with him. They will definitely go out together in a blaze, whether it’s a blaze of glory or not we will soon find out. Assuming the 49ers miss the playoffs and Alex Smith plays the way he has all season we can expect a lot of changes in the offseason. What is on your Christmas wish list for the 49ers?

I have eaten, slept and breathed the 49ers since I knew what football was. Favorite all time players are Steve Young and Jerry Rice, even got to see Rice go into the HOF. I try to bring different perspectives to 49ersnews.com in hopes of sparking some debates in Niner Nation about whats best for the team. Hope everyone enjoys them and if not then comment and tell me why! GO NINERS!

Well, If Sing’s gone I want Gruden, not some unproven, I want Gruden, we need the best and no no namers anymore that get us nowhere, and I mean harbough and guys like that, we need proven sucessful coaches in here just like we need a proven QB. There’s reports that he’s making plans on coming here or cleveland, and trust me he will pick us, because he secretly loves us, this is walsh’s team and always will be and he’s on that tree and he wants to follow in his sucess. Trust me, if Sing is gone, we will get Gruden and he will bring in a superstar QB. It will be much like the glory days when people wanterd to come play for Debartlo. Gruden will get the leagues attention and player’s will want to come here. But the 49ers must make it happen and stop passing on sucess. They had an oppurtunity last season with Mcnabb, and a bunch of you guys on here said, no chance, wont happen, and look at the end result, another sucky season. We need a proven star QB in here, thats the solution and Gruden knows that and he will bring in Vick if possible, he’ll draw them in, trust me!!

I have no problem with Gruden taking over the Head Coach position. That said, I wouldn’t rule out an unproven (in the NFL) coach, or QB. I’m sure you know where I’m going with this. If some how, some way, the Niners could work a deal where Harbaugh comes in as HC, AND brings Luck with him, we hit the jackpot. I can hear it already…”As far as the QB solution, we do not want to make same mistake acquiring Andrew Luck as we did with Alex a few years back.” I understand that, and I also said “We must not repeat that mistake” more times than I care to count. BUT, I’ve been watching Luck and the entire Stanford team. This guy is the real deal. I currently live in Houston, where Luck is from, and the talk here is nothing but positive. Now, if Harbaugh decides he wants to stay in town and take the HC job, that just makes acquiring Luck even more of a sweeter deal. I’m just sayin.
