The 49ers held a press conference today to talk with new interim head coach Jim Tomsula and also for President Jed York to talk about GM/HC search. Let me start by saying no one cared what Tomsula had to say. It is basically one and done for him. He is basically coaching for an opportunity to stick with the team under the new regime.
The part everyone was waiting for was in regards to what Jed had to say. And let me tell you he didn’t disappoint. First off he said that the new GM will hire the next HC. He’d like to keep some assistants, but he’d leave that up to the new GM and HC. Also in regards to Trent Baalke. If he doesn’t get the GM position it will be up to the new GM if Baalke gets to stick around.
Enough of that let’s get down to the good parts. Jed was asked who he would advice with in regards to finding the right GM. He said he is listening and consulting with his Uncle Eddie. Now I know the firing of Mike Singletary got the fanbase excited, but hearing that Jed is listening to Uncle Eddie through this process has to make the Niners fanbase giddy as a schoolgirl. Jed also mentioned he would consult with the Krafts.
Jed also said that his Uncle Eddie was helping him set up the interviews/meetings with the current GM list they have and not only that but Eddie will sit in on some of the interviews.
After listening to Jed it seems like he realized he had made mistakes with the whole Singletary ordeal and it appears that he wants to right the ship and by hiring the GM that fits the 49ers the best he’ll accomplish that.
