McCloughan Given Leave of Absence
Update: Per previous reports Adam Schefter is reporting that the 49ers are granting McCloughan a leave of absence, which means nothing really. Upon further search it looks like Scot McCloughan is going through a divorce and that right there may be something that is contributing to the leave of absence.
Santa Clara County Superior Court Civil Case No. 6-10-FL-003288, filed February 2, 2010, Respondent is one Scot McCloughan, Petitioner is Kelli McCloughan, nature of proceedings: dissolution of marriage.
11:32 am — There is no definite word out of 4949 Centennial Blvd, but all the reports from Matt Maiocco to NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora mention the same thing. Scot McCloughan is no longer GM of the San Francisco 49ers.
Speculation has run rampant about why McCloughan was let go. Was it a power struggle between McCloughan and Singletary? Was it due to player personnel? According to Nancy Gay at Fanhouse it was over a “personal matter.” What that personal matter is we will never know.
Now where do the 49ers go from here, reports are that current director of player personnel Trent Baalke will assume many of the GM duties from McCloughan. It wouldn’t surprise me to see after Baalke takes on some of those duties that current team president Jed York take over more of a final decision role, alah Jerry Jones.
We’ll just have to wait and see…
