McCloughan Given Leave of Absence

Update: Per previous reports Adam Schefter is reporting that the 49ers are granting McCloughan a leave of absence, which means nothing really. Upon further search it looks like Scot McCloughan is going through a divorce and that right there may be something that is contributing to the leave of absence.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Civil Case No. 6-10-FL-003288, filed February 2, 2010, Respondent is one Scot McCloughan, Petitioner is Kelli McCloughan, nature of proceedings: dissolution of marriage.

11:32 am — There is no definite word out of 4949 Centennial Blvd, but all the reports from Matt Maiocco to NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora mention the same thing. Scot McCloughan is no longer GM of the San Francisco 49ers.

Speculation has run rampant about why McCloughan was let go. Was it a power struggle between McCloughan and Singletary? Was it due to player personnel? According to Nancy Gay at Fanhouse it was over a “personal matter.” What that personal matter is we will never know.

Now where do the 49ers go from here, reports are that current director of player personnel Trent Baalke will assume many of the GM duties from McCloughan. It wouldn’t surprise me to see after Baalke takes on some of those duties that current team president Jed York take over more of a final decision role, alah Jerry Jones.

We’ll just have to wait and see…

Not the greatest news to hear 5 weeks before the draft but I guess the personal reasons maybe because of the draft?

    • Cory

Its not that bad. Singletary has really stepped up the scouting. I think we will be fine.

  • Ninerfan81

I believe the reason has to be VERY personal because professionally speaking it would make zero cents to let your GM go just before one of the biggest drafts in our club’s history.

Question is: did he take all of his pre-draft information with him? Or would that be the property of the Forty Niners?

  • Cory

its just a leave of absence for a personal matter

Yep..just saw Schefter's report. However, wouldn't be surprised to have the team go this route as to not affect FA or the draft and then when all that finishes up. Scot is infact done as GM. That is how I see it going anyway.

this guys a real dipshit and i hoped he would be gone, but not right before the draft, even if singltary stepped up his drafting skills, it will still effect the franchise. people in this industry and in many others go thru divorces all the time, i really dont see that being the "PERSONAL" reason…

    • Cory

he isnt leaving under his own power….Jed and the rest of the front office are making him quit.

This isn't a leave of absence. He's gone. and that's unfortunate. McCloughan has been a great GM. Look at the players ha has helped bring to our team. We are ready to make a run for our division and McCloughan should get most of the credit for that. We have alot of draft choices on our team that contribute greatly weak in and weak out. He has also brought in excellant free agents to help our team as well.We will miss him, wait and see.

Ye he's a dipshit that helped bring Nate Clements, Walt Harris, Justin Smith,Takeo spikes, Aubroyo Franklin and Michael Lewis to our team. He's also the dipshit that helped draft Patrick Willis, Deshaun Goldson, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker, Joe Staley, and Manny Lawson. Gimme a break!
