Niners to Host Broncos in London

Update: 1.15.10 – It is official the 49ers will host a home game in London. Their opponent for that game will be the Denver Broncos. The game is scheduled for Oct. 31st.

1.4.10 – This season the NFL had on schedule a game hosted in London at Wembley Stadium. The game was a huge hit for the NFL and the reports are that they will adding another regular season game for the 2010 season.

There were rumors earlier in the season that the Jaguars, Redskins, Ravens and 49ers were teams that were interested in playing overseas. And now those rumors are starting to come to fruition and word is that the 49ers will most likely be the team to host one of it’s home games at Wembley Stadium. Now it is not set in stone, but if infact the 49ers do play in London, the rumors are it will most likely be against the Eagles.

    Ew.

London = 9 hr Flt from SFO to London’s Heathrow Int’l Airport.

Eagles have owned us for as of late so what kind of impression would we be making as a franchise to the international fan base?

London in Aug-Jan is a gloomy, wet and miserable place.

If the 49ers are to “Host” the game – we lose a home game for our fan base at “home”.

If we are to play in London – it better be right before a bye week in order for our guys to re-acclimate themselves from that kind of travel.

If we flew on a Concord jet – I wouldn’t be “as” concerned. (Terrorists don’t fly on Concord Jets)

And if you think I’m being paranoid about “terrorists” – I was on that exact same flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on my way back from Holland… No joke – 1 week later that stupid, bitch ass, ass clown tried blowing a hole in the damn thing.

Fair points about the flight times and the associated issues of player fatigue and recovery. Also losing a home game is bad news.

I live in the UK and would love to go to the game (i ordinarily get all the 9ers games streamed live on nfl.com), but I would prefer that the 9ers win at Candlestick rather than come over here and the rest of the season suffer for it.

As far as international fans' impression of the franchise goes – if the 49ers came over here and lost, anyone who would turn his back on them as a result is a fan we could probably do without. Regardless of where they're from or where they live.

Thanks for this piece: “As far as international fans’ impression of the franchise goes – if the 49ers came over here and lost, anyone who would turn his back on them as a result is a fan we could probably do without. Regardless of where they’re from or where they live.”

      So true…
