Stafford to Visit

The mini-feud between QB Matthew Stafford and the San Francisco 49ers looks like it will be resolved soon.

NFL.com’s Gil Brandt reports that the 49ers will host the Georgia prospect Monday for a visit. Stafford is widely believed to be the favorite to go No. 1 overall to the Detroit Lions in the NFL Draft on April 25, while San Francisco owns the No. 10 overall selection.

Stafford told Sports Illustrated’s Peter King that he was asked about his parents’ divorce during an interview with a 49ers team psychologist during the NFL Scouting Combine and was told he “sounded if he might have unfinished business.”

According to NBC Bay Area, 49ers coach Mike Singletary fueled the controversy last month after comments with Ralph Barbieri on KNBR, a local radio station.

“If you’re going to look at drafting a guy in the first round,” Singletary says in the interview, “and you’re going to pay him millions of dollars, and asking him about a divorce about his parents, if that’s going to be an issue, then you know what, maybe he doesn’t belong here.”
