Cutler on the Block. Niners Interested

cutlerThe “For Sale” sign has been planted in the front yard, and the Broncos will soon be showing potential buyers the partially-finished basement.

According to Charles Robinson and Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, at least six teams are interested in Cutler.

The Jets, Buccaneers, Bears, Lions, 49ers, and Browns already have been identified. Per Robinson and Cole, the Jaguars have shown interest as well.

As we’ve been saying over and over until people tell us to shut up, any team contemplating using a first-round pick on a quarterback should be interested in Cutler, because unlike an unproven rookie first-rounder Cutler has shown that he can perform at the NFL level.

Meanwhile, chatter persists in league circles regarding the Redskins. We heard several weeks ago that the ‘Skins are indeed interested. As one league source reiterated moments ago, the pursuit of Cutler in 2009 could be driven by the intended pursuit of the man who drafted him in 2010 — former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.

The Pundit of 49ersNews. I do what I can to supply the Niner fans with their fix.
  • West.

Nolan and Alex together again, that would be classic..lol

If they where to get our 1st round pick Denver should be able to sign Sanchez an Raji which Im sure Nolan is high on.

Signing Cutler would be a gift, and should be a must.

  • aussieman90

    Isaac Bruce wants to return!!!

    BRUUUUUUUCE!!!!

  • DCNinerFan

yeah, thats why I said send smith over… Nolan loves that guy, lord knows why he chose him over rogers…

  • DCNinerFan

You think packing up Alex Smith and a second rounder would be an option? knowing the deadskins, they’d probably up it with Campbell and a first rounder… and then some.

  • West.

2nd an Smith. Naw cant see it. We need to be aggressive, send over our 1st rounder and what ever else it taks…Nolan is over there maybe he wants his guy Mark Roman. lol

  • Rob the PA Niner Fan

Heh. Packaging Smith and a second rounder would be interesting. I'm just not sure I want Cutler. He is like the anti-Shaun Hill. He can put up big numbers, but he is also whiney. I'm just not sure he is a great influence on the team. But, hey, if the price is right, do it.

aussieman, I am also excited Bruce is returning. I think our WR group is looking better than it has in years.

  • Rob the PA Niner Fan

Hey, by the way. I saw an article on nfl.com that lists teams interested in Cutler. The 49ers aren't on that list. So, did this information come from a credible source?

  • West.

Broncos want to start at 2 1st. which to me can turn into a 1st this year and a 2nd next….. Or just send over our 1st this year an 1st next year…. We need a QB that can take us to the next level… I understand alot of you fans like to hold on to our picks and hope for the best, but he is proven..

Washington also is interested in trading Jason Campbell for a 2nd rounder. Cutler or Campbell would be a big upgrade…

An for the Vick haters and Alex lovers, heard Vick is getting released today.

  • DCNinerFan

I just think that 2 1st rounders is too much. This years and next years? No thanks. Maybe smith and this years first rounder. Maybe throw in a late 5th or so. But the Deadskins, if they've proven anything, are willing to mortgage the future to win the in present. Which never works.

  • West.

"The Redskins are close to completing a deal for Denver quarterback Jay Cutler, according an NFL source said.

The source, who told The Examiner of the Redskins' interest in Cutler two weeks ago, was uncertain what Washington had to surrender in the deal and said it's "going down as we speak." The Redskins have shopped current starter quarterback Jason Campbell.

Skins want a 2nd rounder for Jason Campbell. Why not pull the trigger on him!! Are we really depending on Alex?

  • Joe Gomez

Lets face it, McClueless is in love with Alex Smith, because he wants to prove that his pick wasnt a mistake even though its been going on 4 years, he will stick with this loser for however long it takes. Build through the draft? Motherfucker you have been building though the draft for how many fucking years now and striking the fuck out!!! WE WANT TO WIN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bobby Boucher

The Broncos want two first round picks for Cutler. Also they have told interested teams that a qb in exchange is not a requirement. Sounds like we would have to give up way too much to land this big cry baby. I say no thanks!

  • Niner Pundit

Rob: According to Charles Robinson and Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports. I say they are credible.

  • ibLeedredNgoLd

I couldn’t agree with you more West.

Any niner fan who thinks we shouldn’t pursue Jay Cutler does not know what they are talking about. This is one of the best QB in the league and a young one at that. These opportunities dont come every day.

I would send a 2nd and a first…. or if I have to two 1st round picks for a PROVEN franchise QB.

  • Niner Pundit

Cutler to the Bears for a 1st/3rd in 09 and a 1st in ’10 and Orton.

  • DCNinerFan

Well, Cutler in Chicago, didn’t see that coming…

  • West.

Update 2:35 p.m.** Jay Glazer of foxsports.com reports that Cutler has been traded to the Chicago Bears for two first-round picks, a third-round pick and quarterback Kyle Orton. Denver will receive Chicago’s first- and third-round pick in this year’s draft, and Chicago’s first-round pick in 2010, along with Orton. The Bears get Cutler and the Broncos’ fifth-round pick this year. … If this is correct, you have to ask yourself whether the 49ers should have given up a similar package, say, Shaun Hill, two first rounders and a third rounder for Cutler …

9ers scared to pull the trigger or what?

  • Joe Gomez

NFL Network was right when they said the 49ers management was just “too cheap” to make a deal for Cutler. We had a chance to get a franchise QB for the next decade and we blew it. Draft picks (especially with the moron McClueless picking) are a big gamble (ala Alex Smith) and Cutler was the solution. West, we all know the 49ers are to lame, cheap, and scared to pull a trigger on anything. We practically have the same damn team right now thanks to Bruce coming back but have we really improved anywhere? QB is a big weak link and we had a shot to have Cutler and blew it out of our ass. He would of been better than Warner (we blew that out of our ass also, starting to be a recurring thing) in my opinion just because he is way younger.

  • West.

Joe Gomez… I hear you, we played ourselves. We could have gotten Cutler..But i guess for some reason two 1st was too rich for a PROVEN QB….. Makes me wonder what we are doing! Are we trying to prove we dont need a above average QB to win the Super Bowl like the Ravens did with Dilfers sorry ass??

Any word on Jason Campbell? Is Washington still shopping him for a 2nd rounder?

  • Rob the PA Niner Fan

You know, Cutler puts up big numbers and all, but he is a cry baby. And, even though he puts up big numbers, the Broncos have yet to go anywhere impressive with him. Besides, he was playing in a well established offense with a great running game and good pass protection. I don't think he will be as successful in Chicago as he was in Denver. Honestly, I think a lot of you will think I'm crazy for saying this, but I would rather have Shaun Hill than Jay Cutler. Forget Alex Smith. He is a backup, nothing more. But, all Shaun Hill has done has won games. And, this is with a mediocre offensive line and no established receivers. Plus, he was playing in a system last year which really didn't suit him. Trust me, as long as he can stay healthy, Hill will help us win games. Why this guy doesn't get credit is beyond me.

  • West.

Some good news came after all… “Plaxico released by Giants”…..Strange year!!…9ers need to get him and fast… No more redzone issues, we will recieve that number 1 WR we been looking for and Gore wont be facing 8 men in the box…. Make it happen

  • West.

Pundit, James thanks for the “2008 49ers – Ultimate Highlight ” located on the bottom of the page right corner….. NICE LOOK….. THIS SEASON NEEDS TO HURRY UP AN START.

  • DCNinerFan

I don't think the 9ers will be interested in Burress west. I would love him, if he could guarantee not being a douche, but thats asking a lot, isn't it?

  • West.

DCNinerFan… i hear u, an hope u are wrong… Plaxico would be nice!!

Strange year… Cutler was traded, T.O. cut,Plaxico cut an Chad maybe out soon.

  • DCNinerFan

The one biggest regret I have this offseason (as if I could have them, mind you) is the pats letting Cassel go for a 2nd rounder. Boy it would have been great to grab him for a 2nd…
