Alex Smith Restructures

Alex SmithAt a time when one of Tom Condon’s high-profile clients is contemplating taking a salary haircut in order to stay with a California team, another high-profile Tom Condon client has opted to reduce his compensation in order to keep his job.

Per a league source, the 49ers have agreed to a new two-year deal with quarterback Alex Smith, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft.

Though specific numbers are not yet available, we’re told that it’s normal two-year money for a backup-type deal, but all in all a fair package.

Our guess is that Smith will make something like $2 million to $3 million per year.

I would just like to redirect everyone to this little gem I wrote. I feel like F'in Nostradamus…and everyone laughed at me.

  • Bobby Boucher

Awesome! This shows that Smith understands the investment that we made in him, and wants to prove to everyone that we didn't make a mistake taking him #1 in 05. Love it! Go Muddogs!!! I mean Go Niners!!!

  • Mike in NJ

its for 8 million i think 4 this year and 4 next.. espn has an article on it.

  • James Jones

No way is it for 8 million… no way.

  • James Jones

Or maybe it is, I don’t know. One thing is for certain though, if it is for 8 million then they have overpaid.

I am a Smith supporter and have thought he was going to be the starter in ’09 for a long time now but that is still alot of money to pay him for services rendered thus far.

  • Joe Gomez

This is outrageous. We should of released this bum. I would of had HIM pay us $8 MILLION before he left. What a joke. We are trying to upgrade or are we stuck in mediocre world forever? Man we are really doing wonders this off season.

  • Bobby Boucher

I doubt that (8 mill) is accurate. Unless some of that is performance based incentives. They wouldn’t give him twice as much as Shaun in guaranteed money. I call bullshit.

  • Joe Gomez

Not so fast Nostradamus… you said he would return but you also said he would be the starter. I said if he does return he would be either “holding a clipboard” OR “passing out gatorade”. If you think hes going to beat out Shaun Hill as the starting QB, think again. Dont be surprised if even Huard beats him out for the #2 spot. Im starting to believe if Alex ends up playing sometime next year and does horrible all the Alex supporters are going to say.. “well he had another NEW offensive coordinator.” Im done hearing all the excuses, its a waste of Millions to sign this BUST.
    Mark my words.

We will see what happens with Smith in the QB competition. The point that people like “Joe Hole” miss, is that we invested relatively little to see if our huge investment already, will pan out. The fact is this; we got Alex on board for nothing compared to what we have already paid! He wants to be here. He wants to prove that he is not a bust. And he has swallowed his pride to prove that to you, me, and everyone else. I never said that he would succeed without a doubt. He has to prove he can play. With Singletary, instead of Nolan, I think he can do that. If not; we cut him after next year, and void the second year of his contract. If he does; we can get some continuity with a young QB and an OC to build on for the future. And what you Martz loving fools refuse to realize is that Jimmy Raye is too old to go anywhere as HC if we do well. We can have the same OC year after year after year; just like Dick Lebeau has been DC with the Steelers. I’m not sure Raye or Smith can do it, but if they both can, we could all be in for a great ride. Hill is great, and I have no problem with him starting next year. The important thing, that I think will happen this year, that didn’t happen last year;is that it will be a fair open quarterback competition. The best QB will start and the second place finisher will sit down until called upon. Not that JT didn’t look better in preseason last year, but he got way more reps with the first team than Smith or Hill, and Martz played favorites.

  • James Jones

I really think that Alex will be starting in 2009. He is the better quarterback of the three on the roster. The thing is this season he is coming back to a much different situation then at any other time.

He is getting back to a version of the offense of 2006 when he had his most productive season. Sure completing 58% of his passes, passing for just under 3000 yards and throwing 16 touchdowns to 16 interceptions isn’t much to get excited about. However when you compare it to his 2005 season it did show that he was making progress.

Now he will not be asked to become the teams savior, he doesn’t have that #1 overall pick contract hanging over his head and he has a head coach who isn’t a complete idiot his chances for winning the job have certainly gone up.

Also Joe you make comment to Smith’s completion percentage quite regularly. You make no mention of the fact that over his time with the team they have employed some less then stellar wideouts and in fact one of those seasons I believe the 49ers led the entire league in dropped passes.

Smith will win the job and that is a prediction I will stand by from now until it happens. If it doesn’t then I was wrong and I’ll admit as much but to be so sure of oneself as to say that there is no way that it can happen is just wrong in my opinion.

  • Joe Gomez

Numbers dont lie, just look them up. This bum has had plenty of chances and hardly has shown anything. 800 attempts! Ryan Leaf had way less than that and he didnt exactly have Jerry Rice to throw to did he? Dropped balls, no protection, etc etc etc.. those are all excuses James. The bottom line is the guy has not shown ANYTHING. When he did have time and the WR was wide open, he never hit them. Not one 300 yard game in his life. Look you guys are the few supporters of this bum, tune in on the radio and on TV everybody is laughing at this re-signing. You all think im the only person saying Alex is a bust? Hahahaha.. man where have you all been? As for you MSouza, I was just reporting what ESPN reported, that Smith and the Niners "talks" had broken down. If it picked up again and was finalized than so be it. Pick a bone with somebody else bitch, you bore me. Besides I was just having fun with Stuntman, he was calling himself Nostradamus and I checked him on it, so the fuck what? As for you, Bobby Bitch Balls, you still butt hurt over the fact that I had to school your stupid ass? Hahaha… yea Alex was undefeated before he was hurt huh? Man your a fucking idiot dude. Its been a pleasure schooling your dumb ass. As far as Alex competing, Shaun Hill is 7-3 as a starter, need I say more? It will take practically a miracle for Alex to win. Huard has better numbers than Alex so I wont be surprised if he beats him out for the backup role.

  • Joe Gomez

Yea Josh #1 Fan did say that. Like I said, I like the kid but not sure if hes ready for the #1 spot. Hes a good WR though, real good.

  • Medford

I like Alex Smith he did show promise in 2006 and yes I feel your anger Joe but lets give him a chance now. It looks like he is finally healthy and they are going to be using more of a Norv offense now. And he doesnt have to deal with that idiot Nolan anymore they did not get along remember last year in preseason Smith barely even played the most he played was wat a qtr or a half of a qtr with all the regulars out of the game by then. Alex needs to become more of a leader and not go to the bench and put his head down or put his arms in the air if a wr runs the wrong way. Shaun Hill should start the first 2 preseason games and let Alex start the last two each of them playing 4qts all together and let the best man win……

  • Joe Gomez

Bobby Bitch Balls… Shut up before you get your ass schooled again!

    LMFAO! Hahahahaha!

  • Joe Gomez

    Just reposting this for Lottie901:

"Couldnt have said it better myself!"

I DONT MEAN ANY HARM WHEN I SAY THIS BUT “TO ALL” 49ERS FANS THAT WOULD NOT MIND ALEXIS SMITH BEING BACK ON THE TEAM NEXT YEAR SHOULD JUST LET IT GO!!! HE IS A BUST! STOP TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY WE HAVE INVESTED IN HIM BECAUSE AS FANS WE DO NOT PAY HIM THATS THE YORKS JOB. QUIT SAYING, “WELL HE IS A NUMBER 1 PICK” BECAUSE THAT MEANS NOTHING. TEAMS TAKE A CHANCE ON ALL PLAYERS IN THE DRAFT. IF ITS THE NO. 1 PICK OR NOT! TEAMS DONT KNOW IF THEY HAVE A GOOD CHOICE OR A BUST! IN THE 49ERS CASE, HES A BUST! IM TIRED OF HEARING HOW MANY COORDINATORS HE HAS HAD SINCE HE HAS BEEN WITH THE TEAM. SHAUN HILL HAD TO LEARN THE SYSTEM AND WE SEE WHAT HES DOING. IT DOESNT MATTER HOW LONG SHAUN HAS BEEN IN THE NFL, IF YOU AINT SH*T, YOU AINT SH*T!!! THERE IS NOTHING THAT IVE SEEN FROM ALEXIS THAT SHOWS ME HE WILL BE A GOOD QB & A LEADER ON THE TEAM. THE PLAYERS DONT BELIEVE IN ALEXIS!!! IF FRANK GORE HAD NOT HAD THE SEASON THAT HE HAD WITH NORV TURNER WHEN THE NINERS FINISHED 7-9, THERE IS NOWAY SMITH WOULD HAVE HAD 16TDS. ALL THEY RAN FOR SMITH WERE BOOTLEGS AND PLAY ACTION. THE MAN THREW 16INTS & BLEW 3 “COUNT’EM” 3 GAMES FOR US FANS. WE NEED TO GET ALL THE LOSERS OFF OUR TEAM A.S.A.P. & THAT INCLUDES MR. GLASS, ALEXIS, SIMMS, ROMAN, NUMBER 47 SORRY ASS, RAY MCDONALD AND RON FIELDS. WE ALSO NEED A REAL FULLBACK. THIS IS JUST THE WAY I SEE IT.

  • Josh Morgan

I truely believe that Alex has a shot to beat out Hill. The thing that worries me though is what is going to happen when his shoulder gets driven into the ground after being sacked. This team needs consistency for Christ sake. We better draft O-line cause we are going to have to protect his ass.

  • Josh Morgan

Dont forget the year we had the #1 pick it just so happened there was no clear cut cant miss pick. It was a crap shoot no matter what way you look at it.

  • Joe Gomez

Josh, I dont see that happening. Alex "The Bust" Smith will need a miracle to even beat out Huard for the #2 spot. Hes sorry and he will prove that again. Remember Shaun Hill is 7-3 as a starter and undefeated at Candlestick. The man doesnt get enough respect.

  • Josh Morgan

Dont get me wrong Joe I agree and have no problems with Hill at all. He has done nothing but win for us and continues to get no respect for his efforts. I just question their thinking by keeping Smith around it seems to me like they want him to win the job for some reason and that reason being so Scott can try to prove he was not wrong on picking him #1. This should be about whats best for the team not what is best for Scotts ego.

  • Bobby Boucher

Jolene, you couldn't school a mentally retarted mongoloid. Get over yourself. I guess we'll have to wait until the season starts to be able to tell who's right on this. Gotta go, I'm going to look for someone else's post from another site, that agrees with me, so I can post it here to prove how right I am. Stupid, useless, Joelene…

  • MSouza

James, I agree with you that Smith is still the most talented QB on the roster, but I am a little concerned with his shoulder. From my limited understanding of the procedure he went through, it is not an easy recovery, and could really affect his future. If he is fully healthy this time around, see what he can do. I think he was hurt last preseason the whole way through, explaining why he looked more inaccurate than at any other point in his career.

Joe really you should be the last person to call out people on accuracy of past posts. On Unknown Stuntman’s comment thread you repeatedly and belligerently stated how ridiculous the mere notion of Smith returning in ’09 was, then just a week ago you confidently claimed that the Alex Smith restructure was in shambles and wasn’t going to happen, despite numerous CREDIBLE sources stating the opposite. I know that I probably just started a mini battle, and I promise I will do my best not to respond to any more of your posts, but you shouldn’t call out an actual contributor to a website, that you frequent probably more than anybody else on here, for accuracy of a statement, when thus far they have been correct, and you have been nothing but wrong, repeatedly.

  • 49er4life

Except for the suggestion that Ray McDonald sucks, I completely agree with Gomez. You can talk all you want about 4 coordinators in 4 years, shitty receivers, etc., the fact remains that Alex Smith sucks. His mechanics are fundamentally flawed, he can't throw a spiral, his accuracy is way off, and he has no arm. Not that Shaun Hill's arm is any better, but at least he WINS. Scot Mc-Clueless continues to display his ineptitude. He entertained the idea of signing Kurt Warner after firing Mike Martz (how fucking stupid is that?). He hired some O-Coordinator that was formerly a running backs coach. And now he restructured a contract for a guy who is a proven loser. It's clear that Mc-Clueless has no idea how to run a successful organization. We should have cut Smith so that we can draft Sanchez to add a face to our franchise. If for some reason Smith starts the season, we're in for a long one.

  • Bobby Boucher

I wish there was a site where people like Joelene and 9er4like could go and talk about how bad everything sucks. Our Gm is a piece of shit and our QBs suck, huh?Why are you guys even fans of this team if they fucking suck so bad? Then you guys could suck each other off and agree with each others comments all day. Maybe it would be something like this:

Joelene: The 49ers suck. There is no way we can win next year. If only we could have overpaid for TJ Houshmanwhatever, then we would go to the superbowl.

9er4like: Joelene you are the smartest mother fucker ever. I agree that this team sucks. McClueless is an idiot. Let's become Seahawks fans, since they have the best overpaid receiver in the NFL. Go TJ and Seahawks!!!

Joelene: I agree 1000% I'm totally gay for Matt Hasslebeck!

  • James Jones

    Not sure when this drivel was written but;

"WE NEED TO GET ALL THE LOSERS OFF OUR TEAM A.S.A.P. & THAT INCLUDES MR. GLASS, ALEXIS, SIMMS, ROMAN, NUMBER 47 SORRY ASS, RAY MCDONALD AND RON FIELDS. WE ALSO NEED A REAL FULLBACK. THIS IS JUST THE WAY I SEE IT."

Jennings will be gone before training campe, I think we can all agree on that.

Alex is here and he isn't going anywhere, at least not for two more years so the Smith detractors really should let that fact go. He has signed and he will be battling Hill for the #1 spot.

Roman is already seeking a trade so he most likely won't be on the team this season. The reason for this of course is a result of the team endorsing Goldson as the starter at FS.

Billy Bajema, or #47 as this person referred to him, is no longer on the team roster.

McDonald needing to be let go is laughable seeing as the team is already thin on the defensive line. Releasing him would only serve to exasperate the issue. Also Fields signed with Denver sometime ago.

A real fullback? The team brought Moran Norris back and he was the one who paved the way for Gore's 1695 yard rushing season in 2006.

The way I see it is that we all pretty much know how each other feels about certain topics. Some like Smith and some don't. Some have ideas of who the team should target as free agency progresses and others have opinions on who the team should draft in April. Drudging up the same tired arguments about things gets us nowhere. Let's let it go already and let the offseason play out how it's going to because no matter how sure we are of ourselves there is no telling what it's going to bring.

  • Bobby Boucher

Oh and the ignorant comment that you refered to was Ms. Gomez's attempt to validate his viewpoint by posting some other crazy asshole's foolishness from another website. Makes alot of sense.

  • Josh Morgan

Matt Maiocco replied to comment from MonterreyNiner | March 10, 2009 9:01 PM | Reply
Question: who in your opinion is our #1 WR?

My response: Josh Morgan turned a lot of heads last season. If he had not gotten that staph infection and lost a lot of weight, he might have been given an opportunity to be the No. 1 last season. I think Morgan should be given that chance, whether Isaac Bruce returns or not. It’s would be time to start to phase him out and see what Morgan and Brandon Jones can do. –Matt M.

I believe the #1 fan said this already…..Right Gomez?

  • Josh Morgan

Joe I will give you one thing. It seems like we are still very much in a transition phase and trying to figure things out. When will it end? Hopefully Singletary can finally lead us in the right direction. This draft is huge for us in my opinion. Esp. with the lack of action during FA.

  • Bobby Boucher

My balls do not bitch Joe, but I wouldn’t be suprised if your’s did. Because every other part of you does. Actually that is if you have any balls. All you do is bitch and complain. I wouldn’t be suprised if you were a woman. You sound like my fucking wife. From now on, I suggest everyone here refer to Ms. Gomez as Joelene.

  • Joe Gomez

Josh, who do you have us taking at number ten?

  • Josh Morgan

God only knows Joe. I have no idea. As much as I say I want an O-lineman I would not be heartbroken if we were to choose Orakpo. He could be a beast. Then again what if Crabtree falls to us what do you do? It is so hard to read Scott so I really have no clue. The thing that upsets me most is they say they are in on all these FA and dont act on any of them. Not even so much as an offer. These guys are very hard to read. Maybe on purpose.

  • Joe Gomez

Oh and Bitch Balls? That was taken from a post that was made on 49ersnews.com, fucking idiot.

  • Bobby Boucher

Jolene can't wait until TJ burns us next year. Like I said, probably not even a niner fan. Go post on Seahawks news.com fool! And then go down to the bus stop so you can watch Mike Martz call plays for a team of homeless people. Maybe throw a dime or two into his stryrofoam cup so he can score some Night Train. Next year, while you a rooting for us to fail, most of us will be enjoying a great season and laughing our asses off at how fucking stupid you are.

  • Bobby Boucher

Everyone should read the Urban Meyer interview on Barrow's blog. It's from the year Alex was drafted. Killion had a good article today as well in the Mercury news.

  • Bobby Boucher

    James,
I tried to stay out of the drivel, that’s why I said 2 comments ago we will have to wait until the season starts to see who is right. No one knows how Smith will turn out. No one knows if we did a good job in free agency(not done yet hopefully) or in the draft, until the games are played. Little girls can come on this site and act like they know everything, and stir the pot until we all regress into school yard name calling because that’s all people like that know how to do. It comes down to she’s right we’re wrong, and if we don’t agree with her then we’re all a bunch of queers or something. Sick of it. Go away Jolene!

  • James Jones

Bobby, the drivel I was referring to was what Joe posted from some other person, not your posts.

As I said it doesn’t really matter what any of us says about a player or the team in general, things are going to play out as they will but to think that any one of knows what is going to happen before it actually takes place is just asinine. As is taking the stance that anyone who believes differently from you is an idiot who doesn’t know anything, it’s getting really tired to be honest.

  • Joe Gomez

James, I believe that was posted awhile back when Alex was still in the process of restructuring his contract. For some reason it was deleted off the website but everything that was ever posted on here still can be found. Leading to my next point.

Hey Bobby Bitch Balls, go to yahoo.com and put in the words “Alex Smith is a Bust” and you tell me if I am the only mother fucker who feel the way I do. Then after you do that, put in the words “Alex Smith deserves another chance, hes a good QB” and you tell me how many hits you get. Hahahahaha.. maybe then you will realize you are in the minority. Fucking retard.

  • Joe Gomez

we all regress into school yard name calling ….

Did you say that bitch balls? Hahahaha… my how we forget so fast who started this whole name calling. I will NEVER start it….

I will ALWAYS finish it… dick breath! Hahahahaha!

  • Joe Gomez

Bobby “Bitch Balls” Boucher <~~~~~~~ What dropped on his fucking head as a child and was also molested so forgive him for all his stupid idiotic comments about football. This little pussy doesnt know shit but we forgive him.

  • Joe Gomez

Bobby “Bitch Balls” Boucher <~~~~~ Hopes Alex Smith will take the 49ers to the Super Bowl so he can prove me wrong. Hahahaha….
Motherfucker he’ll be lucky if he gets to pass out gatorade! LMFAO!

  • 49er4life

I’m not saying I know with certainty how Smith will perform next season, if at all. But the best predicter of future success is past success and I think Smith’s career stats speak for themselves. So I guess all 49ers fans must be Alex Smith and Scot Mc-Clueless fans to be true fans huh? Go jack off to your poster of Jed York Bobby Doucher.

  • James Jones

4life, I just don’t see it being as cut and dry as that. Sure, in most cases we can look at the past to help in determining what the future might look like. In a case such as this though, where there are so many intangibles in the equation Smith’s past success, or lack thereof, isn’t something that can be used to determine whether or not he will be successful in the future.

The man has played in about 19 games which we can actually view as containing substance. His rookie season is a wash because he was thrown into a no-win situation at 21 years of age. He quarterbacked a junior varsity high school team in 2005 and even that might be giving that squad to much credit.

2006, enter Norv Turner. Smith has his best season to date and even leads second half and overtime comeback wins in Seattle and in Denver respectively. The team finished 7-9 and EVERYONE is saying that Smith showed some real progress and 2007 should be the year he really breaks out. Then Turner leaves for San Diego and Nolan is left with no other option then to promote someone who has little to no experience to the OC position.

In 2007 Jim Hostler, who was not at all fit to be OC, jettison’s Turners system for one which resulted in producing the second worst offense in league history. After three games in 2007 Smith has the team at 2-1 and on the third play of the game is crushed by Rocky Bernard, seperating his shoulder. All games after this mean nothing in that he was NEVER healthy.

    So in looking at his career numbers from the 19 games in which he was healthy we have;

Comp: Att: Perc: Yards: TD’s: INT’s:
    300 525 57% 3351 17 17

Again not all that impressive but it does lead one to believe that had he not been injured he may have only gotten better as the 2007 season progressed.

It is merely my opinion that Smith deserves one more chance to win the starting job without a braindead head coach, a similar offense to what he had in 2006, and no real expectations for success. It could be just what he needs.

  • Joe Gomez

TJ overpaid? Really Bitch Boy? Hmmmmmm…Lets see what this guy did..From 2001 to 2008, Houshmandzadeh posted 507 receptions, 5,782 yards, and 37 touchdowns. His receptions alone beats our ANY WR in the NFL in the last four years. He got what he deserved dumbshit. Look what WE gave Clements and he has done okay but not great. So when we play Seattle and TJ lines up against Clements (our best corner who we threw $$$$$$MILLIONS$$$$$$ at) and makes him looks silly on his route and goes all the way for a TD and believe me we face these guys enough times, it will happen. Then whos overpaid? Its not your money anyway Bobby the Bitch, why you worried about it?

  • Joe Gomez

James, your missing about 300 attempts on Alex. He has looked pathetic in the 800 attempts he has had which is 100 more than Ryan Leaf. He hasnt even had a 300 yard game in his entire life. Most his games were under a buck fifty. Look, it sounds like you really like this guy which isnt a bad thing, Alex seems like a nice kid. The fact is, numbers do not lie. I hope when he fails yet again to secure a starting spot (and we will see but I believe that will happen) I hope that you will be done with making excuses for the guy. Please.

  • Joe Gomez

One last thing, if he felt he wasnt healthy enough to play then he should of never went out there and played. Thats on him. Im not going to take away 300 attempts just because he went out there and stunk it up but had a medical problem. That goes with the game and if it was so bad then he should of never went out on the field. So what your saying is he attempted 300 passes while he was hurt? I just dont buy it James.

  • Brodie12

Why don’t you ask old guys like Jim Plunkett, hell, even Drew Bledsole, about how they liked porous OL’s and mediocre WR’s. Look at Plunkett’s first five years with New England. He was a first round pick, got beat up every week, and then was traded to the 49er’s. Not until he went to Oakland did he have talent around him.
The more talent we get, even Hill will look better. Give Smith a chance with this obviously better team make-up. You very well could be surprised.

  • Brodie12

Even Brodie was booed for the first five years, unmerciful boos. If you’re running for your life on every drop-back, it will tend of effect accuracy. I just hope smith has been in the weight room working on his upper body. He makes Joe Montana look like McNabb.

  • James Jones

Steve Young would have been burnt at the stake in Tampa Bay for his play there and that clearly had nothing to do with a lack of talent. The teams around him were attrocious.

Smith hasn’t had much better in his time here and there is no reason why he can’t come into a much better situation and flourish now.

Brodie, if the team is to be believed then he is up to about 225 right now which means that he has put on close to 10 pounds since 2007 and I can tell you right now (again if this is true) it isn’t 10 pounds of fat but muscle.

  • Bobby Boucher

What do you guys think about signing Ken Lucas CB from the Panthers?
It’s clear that we are going to sign a CB in free agency. Green and Paymah have already had visits. If we are going to add a DB, why not go with someone a little more established. He would cost quite a bit more than Green or Paymah, but Walt Harris can’t play forever. It will be interesting to see how Spencer plays next year and where he fits into the mix.

  • Bobby Boucher

James; I agree that Strickland stepped up last year when called upon. He saved one game by knocking away a pass in the end zone. Also interested in Brown and Spencer next year. We have had two CBs in for visits though, and looks as if we will add depth in FA at that position. Who would you like to see us sign?

  • Joe Gomez

For your information little Bitch boy, ive been a Niner Faitful for the past 31 years. Probably since you were either sucking on your mommas saggy titty, coming out of her nasty pussy, or swimming around in your daddy’s nutsack! Hahahaha… sadly enough your daddy’s rubber had to break and now you are here. I bet he wanted his 30 bucks back from your momma after that one! LMFAO! Man if you didnt understand the whole TJ and Clements thing than I understand just how stupid you really are. It was merely a question to you, you fucking idiot, if TJ were to burn Clements who is the one overpaid? Point being is, in Free Agency you gotta spend a little money. We paid Clements ridiculous money to get him here and hes done a good job. Paying TJ the money he got wasnt as ridiculous as the contract Clements got so it wouldnt have been a bad signing considering TJ’s numbers. Oh but thats right, you dont comprehend numbers. Fucking retard.

  • Joe Gomez

James and Brodie, the Plunkett and Young comparison to Alex Smith is a little off. Young and Plunkett were good QB’s who went to a DIFFERENT team for a fresh start. Alex Smith is below average to weak QB who is staying on the same team. Its not really a fresh start considering the WR corps hasnt significantly improved. The O-Line has improved a little with Kwame gone but if we keep Sims has it really improved much at all? No it hasnt. Its not a fresh start for him and hes got to deal with coming back from 2 surguries and another different OC. Again I just dont see him winning a starting job with us. Hopefully, all the Alex Smith talk will die as soon as he is regulated back to holding the clipboard where he belongs.

There is a new league coming out soon (UFL), he can possibly tryout and maybe land a starting job. In the NFL? Which by the way as I remember right stands for NOT FOR LONG, he has had way too many chances. McClueless will again give him another chance just so he can pray for a miracle that his #1 overall pick was a good one. In the long run, McClueless will just be fucking clueless. I can only hope that we can get a reall GM for the 2010 season like maybe Holmgren or somebody with real football credentials. This team will NEVER go anywhere with McClueless in charge.

  • Joe Gomez

Hey Bitch Boy, for your information, ive been a Niner Faithful for the past 31 fucking years so dont question my loyalty. You probably still sucking on momma’s saggy titty, coming out of her nasty pussy, or swimming around in your daddy’s nutsack. Hahahaha.. Sorry to hear that his rubber broke and now you are living your sorry life. He probably demanded his 30 bucks back from your mommma. You know I didnt expect you to understand the whole TJ and Clements thing being that your so fucking stupid. It was just an example dipshit, showing you that Clements got a much FATTER contract from us but he isnt that great. TJ proved hes a top WR so he deserves that money. You have to pay out to get premier players dumbass, thats how free agency works. You pay out mediocre money, you get mediocre players. We have a ton of cap space so why you stressing? You act like the money is coming out of your fucking wallet. Hahahaha… man your a fucking idiot.

  • 49er4life

Ken Lucas would be a great addition. Walt Harris is not getting any younger and Shante Spencer is injury-prone. I don’t have that much faith in Donald Strickland as a nickel back. Someone has to fill the void.

  • James Jones

Joe: Young was being labled as a bust in Tampa Bay not only for his horrible completion percentage; 52.2% in 1985 and 53.7% in 1986 but also his propensity for taking off on the run at the first sign of trouble. Oh and he threw 3 touchdowns to 8 interceptions in ’85 and 8 scores and 13 picks in ’86. The only person who saw anything in him was Bill Walsh and who knows, maybe Young would have never been any good if not for him.

The point though is that Smith is getting a new start here now. Different team and attitude then he had in 2006 or the shortlived 2007. An entirely different coaching staff, one where he is going to get what he needs, and once again, less stress and pressure then he has had at any time before.

I just don’t see how you can be so completely sure of yourself Joe. I am predicting that Alex will win the starting job but I am not sitting here guaranteeing it will happen. Like I said time will tell.

  • James Jones

4life: Strickland filled that role nicely last season and I am especially interested in seeing what Terrel Brown can accomplish in an increase role. Spencer could come back and be healthy, hopefully.

  • Medford

I agree with you Joe we should have gone after TJ the Seacocks didnt go for broke wen they signed him. Just like those stats u put up on him he is in my opinion a #1 Wr.

What is Issac Bruce waiting for? I think we need to give him a time table we dont owe him anything all he is doing is wating time. Oh well its not like we were going to go after a GOOD WR anyway.

Hey James the one subject no one is talking about is RB what are we going to do there if this team is going to be a power running team u need to have two good running backs. Gore is great but he fumbles alot so many teams have a two person backfield nowadays. Could we possibly draft a running back #10?

  • Brodie12

Let’s see how Smith looks at mini-camp, how the shoulder holds up, and most importantly, how Singletary and the rest of the staff thinks he looks. If he can throw the deep outs with authority, and not come up lame, I say give him the benefit of competition with the barely mediocre Hill this summer. Arizona could be history.

  • James Jones

Bobby: To be honest if the team is going to sign a defensive back for depth I would take Green.

Brodie: I agree, next weeks meetings and minicamp will tell a great deal about where Smith is at this time. If he comes in and can make the passes that he should be able and will HAVE to make next season then that would seem to point to good things for this summer. We'll see.

Medford: Sorry but TJ is not a #1 receiver and I believe that you would be hard pressed to find anyone on the NFL or the media who believes otherwise. He will not have comparable numbers to his time in Cincy without a Chad Johnson lined up on the other side of the field. The 49ers already have receivers who are on his leve and I believe that Josh Morgan is better then him anyway. Again though, time will tell.

I do not see any scenerio in which the 49ers draft a running back with their first round pick. They have Thomas Clayton on the practice squad and last year was the last in which they can designate him as such so I have to believe that he could make the opening day roster this season. I do see them drafting another running back though, perhaps in the later rounds, possibly with one of their compensatory picks.

  • Bobby Boucher

Eric Green signed with the Miami Dolphins. PFT reported today that the Ravens will releas CB Samari Rolle. I think we need to bring him in for a visit.

  • Bobby Boucher

Torry Holt was released by the Rams today. If we sign him, Bruce would definitely come back. I say do it.

  • Joe Gomez

Oh so you dont want the most productive receiver in the NFL for the past four years (TJ) but instead you want to go after another old ass receiver in Holt to line up opposite old ass Bruce? Hahahaha..

man your a fucking stupid retard!

  • James Jones

Joe: Watch how TJ does in Seattle, he will not be nearly as effective there as he was with the Bengals. That being said I would not even entertain the idea bringing Holt in for a visit let alone signing him. He was never really as good as advertised but more the product of a system in St. Louis and playing at least eight games a season on turf.

  • Texas9er

I have seen a few pictures on google for the 49ers new uniforms next year. I don't know how legit they are. For those of you who haven't seen them they changed the gold on the throwbacks, used the same crimson red that they have now and went back to the old logo without the gold trim but thickened the black around the logo. Hopefully they don't mess with anything and use the thowbacks but if this is the change they where talking about I could live with it. I have seen others that have the numbers outlined in black and it has a black strip on the pants but it doesn't look as good. If anyone would like to look at the pic on google just type in 49ers new uniforms for 2009. Scroll down a bit until you see a pic of Patrick Willis in the throwback and the new design next to each other. Let me know what you all think.

  • Texas9er

Has anyone heard anything on Jason Taylor? If you have let me know the news. I have been away from my computer for a week or so. Any new news with the 49ers?

  • James Jones

That's fine Medford and I respect your opinion. I am however, NOT against every free agent receiver… the problem is the last two to come up around here are TJ, who I'm sorry to say will end up as Peerless Price did when he left Buffalo and Eric Moulds behind. Just my opinion.

Holt has bad knees and would not be worth the money the 49ers would have to fork over to sign him. There is a reason that one of the worst teams in the league last season released him and it wasn't just to save money. He was deemed as expendable and was cut loose to save abut 6 million on the cap this year. If he was still good then they would have found a way to keep him. I don't see him prospering here in the bay, but I could be wrong. I just don't think I am.

What the offense needs to do is roll with the team they have now and hope Bruce comes back for one more season to teach these kids then so much the better. They need to use Davis more in the passing game and there is at least some hope the Raye will involve him the way he did with Tony Gonzalez in Kansas City.

  • Medford

Hey James why are you against every free agent Wr for ? You dont think TJ is a #1 Wr you dont think Holt is either. What should the fans be happy about? Morgan and Jason Hill oh yeah and the best free agent signing to date Brandon Jones please give me a break.

Looks like you have gotton ur self stuck in watching mediocore players and losing every year. Everyone said Issac Bruce was washed up last year and he was r best Wr.

Im with you most the time James but not now this team needs a Wr that scares the defense so we could get that power runnig game going and I think Holt would fit that role.

  • West.

Plaxico would be nice. Any word on whats going on with him James?

  • James Jones

The last news I heard was that the Giants would welcom him back if he handles his issues… nothing other then that as far as I know.

  • West.

I really hope the 9ers go after Jay Cutler if the Broncos trade him.. At least pick up the phone an offer something.. Trade our 10th overall pick..I believe we are looking at a RT with the 10th overall pick, why not pick up Jemon Meredith (OT)South Carolina in the 2nd round..We get a very good QB an a good Tackle.. “Sounds good to me”.. Denver can even pick up Sanchez or Freeman with the pick they recieve from us..

Cutler can do damage and has a big arm, no 8 men in the box..Gore could learn to like that

  • West.

Medford, as for RB’s…Rashad Jennings (RB) Liberty 3rd or 4th round would be nice…Hope he is there for us! 4th round maybe a dream!

  • Mike in NJ

I have read that we seem to be really interested in QB Pat White from WVU. and may be interested in taking him in the 2nd round. I am trying to find the site were I read this and when I do I will post it.

  • Mike in MD

West – been a while. James is right. Think we'll be lucky if Jennings is there in the 3rd which is what I'm hoping for. How's the mocks coming? Here's my latest:

1st Round – Everette Brown, Michael Oher, Andre Smith (can't deny the talent in spite of the BS…Sing will get him motivated & straight) If none our guys are there TRADE DOWN FOR AN ADDITIONAL PICK.

If we trade down: Get a SAFE 1ST ROUND PICK. ***One of our biggest problems, if not the main one, is our GM/FRONT OFFICE MISSING IN THE 1ST ROUND. We need to take a page out of how ex-NE Pioli/Belichick does it…they don't miss in the 1st rounds!! (EX: Alex Smith bust, VD & Manny disappointments thus far, WR Rashad Woods) This is flat out killing us. 2nd Rd picks are just as valuable & now you're telling me Baas might be cut next year? Plus he's been injury prone. Not good.

So in a trade down scenario off the top of my head you could go Maualuga = safe pick, starting TED permanently for the next 10 years / Alex Mack = safe pick, FLAT OUT MONSTER STUD who can play guard or center. Insurance to BAAS who's contract is up next year. I still am not sold on Heitman & think he should be the backup center. Later if we want to upgrade center you slide Mack back to his original college position then look for another guard. I'M A FIRM BELIEVER WE NEED TO FIX OUR O/D LINES FIRST. These are just a couple ideas if we trade down our pick. You could even go Jeremy Maclin / #1 WR. Many options. On OLB pass rusher Ayers I'm just wary of him being a 1 year wonder which is what we chose last year with Balmer. Is Ayers really worth the #10 pick? More research needed.

BTW I would have chosen a safer pick last year. Personally I would have taken Curtis Lofton who would have filled an immediate impact starter role at the TED next to Willis….I repeat IMPACT STARTER!! Check…now move on to the next positions. But noooo, Balmer hasn't showed much & his a** is mostly on the bench. Still pulling for the guy no doubt. This 2nd year is when we'll really see how he's coming along. (For me I didn't trust Desean Jackson at 170 lbs…to risky with the 1st pick.) In the 1st Round we need to try & get guys who have been successful in their ONE POSITION throughout college (& even high school) = do the homework!! Avoid these 1 year freakin' wonders because WE ESPECIALLY CAN'T AFFORD TO MISS ANYMORE!!

2nd RD (back to original picks, no trade down): BPA + NEED PICK. Larry English / WILL rush OLB, RT, FS Sean Smith (if he drops…huge long shot)……need more work here. ***I could even make the argument that we take our stud 2nd RB here because we really need that position badly for Sing's new Offensive run 1st power running philosophy & not take the chance we miss ours in the 3rd RD.

3rd RD: RB HERE, no later….Rashad Jennings, Donald Brown, or Andre Brown. Or next rated RB. (Fill other need if we take RB in the 2nd RD)

4th RD: Sammie Lee Hill / 2-gapping NT / Stillman. Need more research for other options here.

    5th RD: QB's HERE…..Stephen McGee / Rhett Bomar / Mike Reilly

6th RD: Fullback or other team needs

6th RD comp pick: Antonio Dixon / 2-gapping NT / Miami – this would be a "project" pick. Before coming back from knee surgery this year he was projected to go in the 3rd RD. Wes Bunting, the guy who scouts & is in charge of the NFP Draft sites says "he really likes Dixon & HE WILL MAKE AN NFL ROSTER". In this lower round he's worth the gamble a la how the Raiders developed RB Michael Bush. Stud NT's is essential to make the 3-4 D effective.

    7th RD: Need pick, gambles.

7th RD comp pick: Need pick, gambles.

Not sure where our comp picks line up but I put them in the bottom of 6th & 7th rounds for now. We'll find out soon. Any idea when James?

  • Mike in MD

Sorry I meant Baas' contract is up next year & we might let him walk because he hasn't quite panned out. (Not cut him, my bad.)

  • Mike in MD

In a trade down scenario either we get our RT at the traded down 1st round pick or the 2nd RD. But we no longer cannot ignore that position which McClueless has been doing the past 2 years.

Barry Sims was a desperation FA pickup last year because he neglected it in last years Draft & again in Free Agency this year. IMO WE SHOULD HAVE TOOK CARL NICKS LAST YEAR IN THE 4TH ROUND INSTEAD OF UNDERSIZED CODY WALLACE. Do the character homework thoroughly…the risks were acceptable to spend a 4th RD pick on him. To date Nicks has been clean & playing well in New Orleans.

And to put it on record because there's legitimate criticism on McCloughan remember he blew & lost our 5th RD pick with the tampering charge.

I'm not happy at all with our Free Agency. I felt we could have done a lot better. So for me McCloughan BETTER HAVE A SOLID DRAFT!!

  • Mike in MD

Hey all – 49ERS STATE OF THE FRANCHISE on NFL Network on right now………

  • James Jones

West, I don’t think I see Jennings being there that late, but it could happen.

  • James Jones

MMD: The comp picks will be announced at the annual NFL meetings typically at the end of this month. The team was being projected to receive a 5th and a 7th at last look, but that could have changed.

  • Mike in MD

Thanks a lot James. A 5th RD comp instead of a 6th would be a lot better. Keep up the good work!

  • Mike in MD

Sorry to take over the last few posts. Looks like everyone’s taking a break.

I just wanted to add some more Draft talk. In the 2nd RD I wanted to add a few more options. If we get our OT with the first pick (hopefully OHER) thus not trading down, we will miss on Alex Mack who I absolutely have a man crush on. Dudes a flat out beast monster stud. (MACK IS AN ABSOLUTE SAFE PICK. HE WILL BE A STUD NFL PLAYER, POSSIBLE MULTIPLE PRO BOWLER.)

But if we wanted to go the next notch down by a hair the next guy I think real high of is Eric Wood / Louisville. This dude is a freakin’ monster who plays with a mean streak. He annihilates the man in front of him. Get this: He’s played in 48 STRAIGHT GAMES & has started the majority of them. (Sure they were just getting his feet wet when he was a freshman.) Like Mack, he’s a center but can also play guard. He’s a freakin’ rock. Like Mack I categorize Woods as not only an awesome pick but a SAFE PICK.

Other 2nd RD BPA’s (+ need) options….Jarron Gilbert / SJ State (alright we’re loaded at DE with the addition of Evans but Gilbert has tremendous upside.) Is slightly undersized for 3-4 DE at 6-5 / 280…he added 40 lbs since he entered SJ STATE in 2004 but scouts say he has the frame to add more without any problems.

Maybe Heyward Bey if he drops down? Thing is he’s still quite raw but his clocked 4.3/40 speed DOES TRANSLATE FOR REAL ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD. I just salivate on real football speed. Scouts have verified with the ball in his hand Heyward Bey’s a real dangerous playmaker. Maryland’s Offense sucked so he didn’t have great numbers.

Possibly Hakeem Nicks? Not a burner but think big physical polished playmaker that catches everything like a Larry Fitzgerald.
If we went WR this is probably what McCloughan would lean on ’cause he likes bigger WR’s & Nicks is the more complete NFL ready WR vs Heyward Bey. (Yes, he’s the safer pick vs Heyward Bey.)

I revise my order on the 5th RD QB’s >>>

Rhett Bomar / Stephen McGee / Mike Reilly

  • 49er4life

    Draft Sanchez!!!!!

  • Rob the PA Niner Fan

Hey, is it me, or is this site just dead all of a sudden? Is there really NOTHING going on to talk about?

  • Niner Pundit

Rob…sorry been out of the loop abit. Other shit going on. I’m doing my best to get back on here and get things going.

  • Rob the PA Niner Fan

Well, Pundit, it's not just you. NOBODY is posting here anymore. I know it's the offseason, but what's the deal?

  • Bobby Boucher

Anyone have any thoughts on Marvel Smith? I think if his physical comes out ok, we make him our new RT. It would give us alot more flexibility with the #10 pick.

  • Bobby Boucher

Just read that our new WR Brandon Jones is going to wear #81. Yikes!
Someone should tell him about the curse.

  • Texas9er

    Any word on Marvel Smith?

  • Mike in MD

Bobby – On Marvel Smith I think McCloughan lagged bigtime again. IMO after the first 1-3 days of FA when the high priced 1st wave passed that’s when he should of got our VET OT. There were a good handful of options better than a 30+ year old who’s had 2 years of back problems coming fresh off of back surgery. I really can’t understand this dude. (CLUELESS!) This is a dire need position that he’s screwed up for 2 years now. If you have to SLIGHTLY overpay DO IT & get this shit over with. This situation calls for that.

Look anyone’s better than Barry Sims & the goal is to cut him. He will sooner or later get our QB killed. If Marvel Smith’s healthy yeah we’ll take him but McCloughan could have done better by acting earlier. Now we’re scraping through leftovers just like he ignored the OT in the Draft last year & went last minute scrambling in desperation to grab Sims from the Raiders. Now even with a VET OT signing we should still Draft our future stud RT in the 1st or 2nd RD.

If you do this, this is what you’ll have. Either the FA VET OT or the Rookie OT starts at RT if he’s good enough. Then your 2 OT backups will be Snyder & the other of whoever doesn’t start at RT. The key is you cut Sims. JJ’s already out…HALLELUIAH! Now you’ve got 2 quality starting OT’s & 2 quality backups.

  • Bobby Boucher

Just heard the Chargers are shopping Kassim Osgood for a late round draft pick. They mainly use him as a return specialist, and he wants to be more involved in the offense. The guy is 6’5″ tall at 220lbs and only 28 years old. Don’t know that much about him, but we should have extra late round picks. Maybe something to look into.

  • Bobby Boucher

Just heard the Chargers are shopping WR/KR Kassim Osgood for a late round draft pick. They mainly use him on returns, and he wants to be more involved in the offense. The guy is 6’5″ at 220lbs and only 28yrs old. I don’t know that much about him, but this maybe something to look into.

  • Bobby Boucher

Sorry guys! Didn’t think the 1st comment went through.

  • Bobby Boucher

What the hell? It’s like a ghost town around here lately. What’s up with that?

  • Texas9er

I think this is the longest it has been without someone talking shit to each other.

  • Texas9er

Thats my work car for when I pick people up that don't pay me. It says Afford A bond but the pic is small so i don't think you can read it but I still have the old pic too.

  • Bobby Boucher

You’re right Texas it has been too long. So, go piss up a rope you armadillo eating son of a bitch. Just kidding. Why did you change your picture? Old one was way better. You NASCAR loving hillrod!
    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  • Brodie12

Finally, Kwame Harris does something good for the 49ers. Extra picks in the fifth and seventh rounds could finally be some payback.
I can’t believe the Raiders. I wish we could play them two times a year.

  • Joe Gomez

Bobby Bitch.. go suck a dick homo! Motherfuckin faggot ass faggot. Feel better now? Let me know when you feel like its a ghost town again, I will be more than happy to bitch slap your ass any day.

  • Joe Gomez

This is dedicated to all the Alex Smith fans..

  • West.

Joe Gomez, Thanks for the Youtube video. LOL, i needed that! Nice song, LOL….

Since he is with us I hope the song changes.

  • Bobby Boucher

    Fuckey,

Your comebacks are so lame I would be embarassed to post them. Dude, are you five years old. Hahaha. Teeheehee. I guess it's good that you ammuse yourself because you probably dont amuse anyone else. I call you Fuckey the fuck faced ass clown, and all you can think of is homo? Your shit is lame Jolene, and old. Nothing I said got cut off retard. People older than five can figure out how to click the older comments to see how I keep kicking your ass in this stupid fight you have chosen to pick with me.

  • Bobby Boucher

Oh look, it’s everyone’s least favorite clown. Fuckey the fuck faced ass clown(aka Joelene Gomez). Hey Fuckey, maybe no one really posts here anymore because they don’t want to listen to a retarded fuck puppet like you run his stupid fucking mouth. Maybe comments by someone with the IQ of a pile of monkey shit, aren’t worth reading or responding to. Real cute video. Ten seconds of Alex standing behind a jersey that says A. Faggot. That probably seems really clever to a motherless fucking shitheel like you. And you know what they say about homophobes who call everyone a fag and a homo, they’re the ones really taking it deep up the ass. I hope you choke on a dick and die, you classless piece of shit.

  • Bobby Boucher

Donald Sutherland is expected to sign a 3 year deal with the Jets today.

  • Bobby Boucher

Donald Strickland not Donald Sutherland, sorry. That would really be news if it was Sutherland.

  • West.

Did Huard get cut? I keep hearing this but have not found anythang on it!

  • Joe Gomez

    TYPICAL ALEX SMITH “DUCK”

Man what happened here? Lets see which excuse shall I use? Different OC every year? Nah. O-line not protecting? Nah cant use that. WR ran the wrong route? Nope. No this is vintage Alex Smith having jittery feet in the pocket and no touch on his “DUCK” which ends up missing a VERY WIDE OPEN guy down the field.

LETS ALL PRAY THAT SHAUN HILL CAN STAY HEALTHY!

  • Joe Gomez

Hey Bobby Bitch, too bad homo, your words got cut off! Hahaha… damn I hate when that happens! Its ok, your words are always meaningless and stupid anyway. You try to act like you know football but your still the most retarded motherfucker on here…

    LMFAO! Hahahahaha….Dumb ass idiot! Hahaha.

  • Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez = #85 Vernon Davis
Bobby Bitch Boy = #99 Manny Lawson

Hey Bitch boy, watch this it can happen to you if you dont shut the fuck up..hahahaha… watch closely, you are M. Lawson and I am the very pissed of V. Davis. Your ass will be body slammed hard to the ground for your stupidity and lame ass knowledge of the 49ers and in football in general. Fuck you bitch boy! is the words you will replace what V. Davis is saying….Hahahahahaha!!!!

  • Joe Gomez

Whats up with Coach Sing not letting his Assist. Coaches in on possible FA signings? I guess they were against the B. Jones signing and are ticked off that we signed him without letting them in on the decision making process. This isnt a good start at all. Looks like a lack of communication between all the coaches. Then Sing tried to downplay it by saying “wait for the draft.” If the draft is anything near like our FA signings then were in a world of trouble. Something tells me that dumb ass McClueless had alot to do with all this. Sing isnt running the whole show and is probably going by what dumb ass McClueless says. I cant wait for this idiot to leave and bring in someone like Holmgren as GM. We need somebody to totally shake up the top like what Parcells did for Miami.

Hey Bitch Boy.. go suck a dick! Hahaha.

  • Joe Gomez

Fuckey? What grade are you in little Bitch Boy? Hahaha… no bitch you picked this fight with me dick breath but your brain isnt capable of remembering because thats just how stupid your dumb ass is. Yes I am amusing myself bitch boy, its hilarious how ignorant your 49ers comments are and everytime I read it I laugh! Hahahaha!
Teeheehee? Hahahaha! Man you are a faggot … do you yell Teeheehee! when your sticking that dildo up your ass fag boy? Man you are pathetic. Do me a favor, if your talking 49ers football make sure you make sense dipshit because the shit that you say is fucking hilarious and I dont know if I can take all this laughter!
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
