Schefter: Angling for Vick?

WTF Adam?

The 49ers are being secretive about their offensive plans, but it’s not hard to connect the dots in this case.

The 49ers are interviewing former Falcons head coach Dan Reeves today. Reeves was the head coach when the Falcons traded for the No. 1 overall pick to use on QB Michael Vick.

One day earlier, the 49ers interviewed former Falcons and current Ravens quarterback Hue Jackson, who used to coach Vick in Atlanta. And San Francisco also has expressed some interest in former Falcons wide receivers coach Mike Johnson, who coached quarterbacks in Baltimore and also knows Vick well.

So, some of the candidates the 49ers have begun to focus on all have connections to Vick, who could be back in the NFL as early as this summer.

No team has a greater need for a quarterback than the 49ers, but this isn’t to say they will pursue him. But the coaches they’re pursuing now all know and have worked with Vick.

And if that’s not enough of a conspiracy theory, then consider this: On Thursday, the 49ers also signed former Falcons cornerback Jimmy Williams, Vick’s college teammate who lives in Hampton, Va., the next town over from where Vick lives.

Might all just be coincidence. But might not.

I hate Vick with every fiber of my being. But wow would the niners be good with him… They wouldn't need to draft a QB and would become immediate playoff contenders. I hate him but still wow…

  • EC49fan

i live in newport news, my family has known vick family for years and ive had the chance to meet him a few times. i know what vick did but he is not a bad guy. call it an excuse if you want but hes a product of his environment. dog fighting is popular around here and nobody here sees it as some monstorous act of violence. its just something you grow up around and get pulled into

now being a bad newz native i really hope we get vick because seein him in a niners jersey would be the highlight of my life. plus my brothers a cowgirl fan and he thinks theyre going to get him. and i remember jimmy williams too so next season is already looking better

  • marksmen

There is no way i hell he be playing for the 49ers, san franciso is a liberal city the organization would not pay him any $ to play for this team after what he did

  • West

EC49fan …nicly said, past is the past..let it go!!……..If Vicks still n football shape than he would instantly make us a contender……

  • AXEGRINDER

Fuck Vick. You guys want to talk about Alex Smith not being accurate? Don't get me wrong, he makes shit happen with his legs, but he's a piece of shit throwing the ball, and he's a piece of shit off the field.

I guess if Sing wants a running team, he'll definately have it. We'll never have to throw the ball once all year. We'll also fuck up the entire league in rushing stats. LOL. I pray this doesn't happen. What a sick joke.

  • 9nerfan

vick in a niner jersey. wow.

  • http://broncoszone.blogspot.com/ Jon Krause

He'd go great with the niners

  • Ninaz

I doubt this will happen every year everybody stirs up hype about free agents availability and it never happens. Joey Porter, Lance Briggs, Bernard Berrian, and many others that had their name thrown out in favor of playing for the 49ers but none happened. Dont forget that Vick hasnt thrown a quality pass in over a year the guy must be rusty as hell and propably got slower in his time at jail. I doubt any team will take him when he returns so if we can snatch him for under a mil he can compete with Alex and see whos the better QB.

  • miscus555

if the 49ers got vick, i’m sorry to say that i would have to boycott the 49ers for at least a season. it would suck because they would probably do well. but for the reasons that put Vick in jail and the fact that i am 100% against any type of animal abuse, i think he is a piece of garbage and should never be allowed in the league ever again. there are some things that can never be forgiven and even though he hurt himself, he hurt alot of people in the world not to mention the countless dogs he had a hand in killing. the NFL would seriously have to question themselves as a honorable league if that let that trash play on their football fields again.

  • L.G

Vick would be a great boost for the niners football team and the fans!

Everyone makes mistakes he has paid his time, give the guy a break! Let’s just move on…

  • Jimbo

please adam don’t tease me. I would shit my pants if we signed Vick. Man that would be dope.

  • ?????

who gives a fuck wat vick did. shit so what if he did. most chances are that he will feel bad about it and will make a great come back. Besides i like shaun hell but vick on the niners would make us instant playoff contenders. Then we would run all over the gass cardnals and make alot of teams look like shit. Besides we need to win games and he can make that happen. He wont be that much money either so thats another plus. Pacman jones is someone who shouldnt be given another chance. Vick should get another chance besides we are all humans and we all make mistakes. their aint one person alive who has never made a mistake.

  • Lowrance

    I agree with Axe…fuck Vick

  • FunkyFrank

I must say that my love the 49ers would be partly diminished if we gave Vick a shot on this team. I will always love the tradition we stand for, and I believe that would be tarnished as well. I wonder what Montana and Young think of this Vick theory. Don’t get me wrong, Vick made a mistake and I have no problem with the NFL giving him a second chance, but he should be under a no tolerance stipulation if they let him come back. As a die hard 49ers fan, I personally do not want him because I think it would be a bad decision. There is no need for us to take a chance on Vick when we have other viable options – I totally agree with Axe and the comment made about Alex. I’m pretty sure there would be character conflicts in the locker room with Vick as well. I’m not exactly sure all the other players and coaches are all on board with being so quick to forgive him for what happened.

At any rate, we have Shaun Hill, who has done nothing but play well and manage games. I recall a few games where he was getting sacked and firmly held onto the ball. That’s one thing I love about Hill. Many QBs would have dropped the ball because they don’t protect it well enough. If we’re going to be a pound-the-ball running team, then we don’t need a big play QB (not to say Hill wouldn’t step up, seeing him come through a few times last year in clutch situations – I’ll never forget that play where he lost his helmet and picked up the first down). I am perfectly happy with simply drafting a QB in the late rounds and letting Alex back up Hill. In time, Alex will be our best option. I’m not sure he had the best opportunity to grow with being thrown into the fight from the get-go.

    Make it happen Sing!!!

    Sign Vick= Playoffs

  • 9ermanforlife

    NO VICK NO VICK

  • OKLANINER

the Only #7 we should go after is Jeff Garcia.sign him for a year and have him compete in training camp with Smith,Hill, and possibley a rookie. It would be awesome to see him give us a run in the playoffs then see him retire as a 49er.

  • cody

Garcia as a 49er again would be bad ass!
    SF’s classy, Vick’s trash…
Give Alex a chance too. and hill isnt all that great either, the guy cant throw th ball accurately over 40 or so yards.
O’Sullivan can rocket the ball down the field!

  • Lowrance

I’d have no problem bringing in Garcia. I think he got a raw deal because of TO.
IF he can stay healthy all he does is win. He did it here, in Philly, and in Tampa. And he doesn’t turn the ball over. He’d certainly puch Hill to be better, and can offer solid advice.
Plus if we run more, then he’d stay healthy, and so would Hill.

WTF is taking so long to sign an OC?????!!!!! I hope we can pull the trigger faster during the 2 minute drill in the red zone!!!!

  • West

Lawrance, Garcia would be nice… all for it! Also since (FS) T. Mays isnt coming out I hope we go after (FS) Oshiomogho Atogwe in free agency!!

Why is everybody faking the funk man, truly everyone would be all happy is NINERS got Vick. Don't try to play the innocent concerned citizen all of a sudden. He did what he did, let's move on and Let's Win!

  • manuel449ers

ALL OF YOU ARE STUPID. IM A BIG 49ERS FAN AND I WOULD LIKE THE TEAM TAKE A RISK AND SIGN VICK FOR ATLEAST ONE YEAR. THIS TEAM IS GOING TO BE A RUNNIG TEAM. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN A RUNNING TEAM? YOU NEED A QUARTERBACK THAT COULD RUN THE BALL…HILL AND SMITH ARE NOT THE RIGHT GUYS FOR THE JOB. VICK DID HIS TIME AND NOW IS TIME TO PROVE TO EVERY BODY THAT HE’S STILL A STAR QUARTERBACK. HE WOULD FIT PERFECTLY IN THE OFFENSE THAT SINGLETARY IS GOING TO USE. EVERY BODY DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE LOOK AT PACMAN JONES HES DONE SOMETHING WORSE AND HE STILL IN THE NFL. AND ALL OF YOU WANT THE OFFENSE TO BE THE BEST IN THE NFL, WE NEED A QUARTERBACK THAT COULD HELP TAKE OF SOME WEIGHT OF GORES BACK AND WIN GAMES…IF THE 49ERS DONT PICK HIM UP THEN THEIR GOING TO REGRET IT LATER AND WATCH AS MICHAEL VICK WIN GAMES FOR ANOTHER TEAM WHILE THE 49ERS SUFFERING FROM THE QUARTERBACK POSITION…..GARCIA ISNT GONA CUT IT VICK IS OUR TICKET TO SUCCESS AND I HOPE THAT SINGLETARY MAKES THE RIGHT CHOICE AND PICK HIM UP AND GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO PROVE HIMSELF THATS HE’S THE REAL DEAL…. AND IF THEY DO PICK HIM UP……….. ALL YOU HATERS WATCH AND SEE THE 49ERS ARE GOING TO BRING THE TROPHY BACK HOME….. I HOPE SINGLETARY AND MCCOUGHAN READS THIS AND REALLY DISCUSS IT BECAUSE IT WOULD CHANGE EVERY THING AND THE TEAM WILL ACTUALLY PLAY AS A TEAM.

Or see a human being kill dogs for sport. That couldn’t be it… No, that’s definitely not it.

      • B-A-NINER

I have been a niners fan since i was a little kid. My dad is a cowboys fan I have watched them since joe and steve. I agree with manuel449ers in saying that everybody deserves a second chance. Look at people like Micheal Irvin he was doing coke the whole time the cowboys were in the playoffs and he still speaks for the NFL. Nothing would please me more than to see the niners win and I think that means VICK. Alex has been hanging around for a few years and it is the same thing every year. Lets at least let them compete then maybe he would play with his full potential. SING BRING ON VICK!!!!

  • http://twitter 49er fan

Vick should play and play for the 49ers!I want to get somthin striaght it was dogs bread to fight, I know not like he was doing it, but stallworth got 24 days for killing someone 59 years old and said he ran out in the street??? I’ll bet a 59 year old man ran in front of the car real quick!! But ne ways he only did 24 days must have paid off the family, while vick got screwed and they took his money, comparing that. He should play, no if, and ors, or buts bout it, there is still an all pro in there,he could be made into the biggest succses story ever!! Give people hope even thoe u do somthing bad u can work hard, and still live a half normal life more power to him. 49ers is a perfect fit for vick.
