What We Learned: Jets at 49ers

Dec 07, 2008 59 Comments by Niner Pundit

The 49ers won their second game in a row under Mike Singletary and also for the second week in a row played spoiler. After winning all aspects of the game against the Jets, the Yorks need to remove the interim title at head coach and lock Singletary up now. Also while they are at it, give Martz any amount of money they can to keep him OC for years to come. Here is what else we learned after the 49ers 24-14 victory over the Jets.

  • Before the game the 49ers lathered themselves in butter, five fumbles on the day.
  • I love Shaun Hill. He may not be pretty, but he gets the job done.
  • Shaun Hill > Brett Favre (well at least today.)
  • Brad Smith still has no idea where he is at after getting drilled by Patrick Willis.
  • On the touchdown callback to Delanie Walker, Joe Staley did his best Kwame Harris impersonation.
  • Jim Nance will never be able to pronounce David Baas’ name. He said Rose, Base, Boze and then some.
  • Even though the 49ers scored without Gore in the lineup, it was still apparent they need him in the game.
  • Singletary > Nolan. Singletary 3-3, Nolan 2-5.
  • It was beautiful watching Brett Favre emotionless on the sidelines, over and over again.
  • The secondary did a great job shutting down the Jets receivers, despite Nate Clements inactive. Cotchery/Coles combined for 2 catches 15 yards.
  • The offensive line likes Shaun Hill more than they do JT O’Sullivan.
  • Who is this Kris Jenkins I keep hearing about.
  • Jason Hill is the future at wide receiver.
  • Manusky does much better job with defense when he is on the sidelines.
  • Isaac Bruce is so clutch.
  • Seven weeks ago we would have never seen these numbers. TOP: SF 39:49 - NYJ 20:11, SF 375 total yards – NYJ 182 total yards

ok so here is what i am thinking about the hiring of HC it should be Sing no doubt we should retain martz and manusky but we all know whos making the decision JED YORK and if he wants any success or even a close image of what his uncle eddie built it takes that one hire as it did for eddie and JED he has fallen into your lap sign him and we could have a dynasty sooner rather than who knows when but no matter what this faithful is always going to be go niners and the win still feels great

I have to wonder if people don’t pay a 12 year old boy to write some of these posts for them… The are utterly incomprehensible… That being said, does anyone else sense a new style to the Martz offense… I mean, yes big plays, we are number one in big plays over 20, but clock control and sustained drives seem to be the big key to our offensive resurgence, and Hill has no small part in that. He’s a big reason why. However, I also think that Martz is being forcibly made to innovate based on the assets, not try and bring back the Greatest Show, like he tried in Detroit… He may be a mad scientist on offense, but I feel Singletary is putting his foot down and forcing Martz to innovate in ways he probably hasn’t had to.

That being said, the Defense has been rock solid, if not stellar, in shutting down in the red zone. Gotta give props to Singletary for that… Just my 2 cents.

    Go Niners!

HEY pundint.. what do you think about martz and sing together.. do you think we need 1 just as much as the other. what are yours thoughs on the situation?

  6. 9ermanforlife says:

Also pundint.. wut 5 first possitions do you think we should draft first… also what possitions in free agency do you think we should go for?

The League has a Rule that doesn’t allow teams to sign a someone who’s been promoted from Interm-Coach to HC during the regular season. The League requires a level playing field when it comes to the hiring of a new HC for all NFL Teams.

Meaning, Teams don’t know which Heach Coahes will be fired at the end of the regular season. So, Owners have to wait to go through the neccessary process to see what other HC might be avialable and make offers/interviews with other candidates.

Even thou the York’s might have a deal with Singletary and Martz agreed in principal (wink, wink) they must wait until the end of the season to make them a public offer.

I don’t care what anyone says get it through your thick skulls SHAUN HILL is the next big quarterback. Keep Singletary as defense coortinator, and we should get Bill Billeck
and get Nolan back as some type of coach, because that is a automatic Super bowl win.
By the way if Vick gets re-enstated we should pick him up. The Niners have NEVER had a black quarterback. If you think about it, he and Hill can both run the ball well for playing quarterback.

    Free Vick
