Spencer Done

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Shawntae Spencer will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his left knee.

Spencer, a fifth-year pro, will be placed on injured reserve soon after undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair the ligament. He injured his knee late in the 49ers’ road victory at Seattle on Sept. 14, and missed last week’s victory over Detroit.

Tarell Brown and Donald Strickland will compete to replace Spencer with the 49ers, who kept 12 defensive backs on their 53-man roster to start the season. Brown, a second-year pro, got his first career interception last weekend while filling in for Strickland, who also sat out with a knee injury.

The Pundit of 49ersNews. I do what I can to supply the Niner fans with their fix.

That's too bad. He looked real good in preseason. Hopefully the younger guys will step up. Go Niners!

  • RobBase

That sucks. I know it was coming, but he was kickin ace all over the field.

  • James Jones

While it is not great to lose your third corner for the season, I am a little excited to see how T. Brown can do… I have really high hopes for this kid.

This team has been through so much over the last few years that it makes me feel bad for Shawtae. Hopefully he fully recovers and can enjoy some success next year. (If Martz stays). Damn we have a tough scedule! If we do make it to the playoffs it will be well earned with no excuses and we will be tested and ready!

does anyone think that martz will only want to stay next season if he is HC of this team Or do you see him and JT up and leaving for another gig ? anyone and james jones please give me a feedback on this i am interested in what you think ?

I may not have been able to watch every game in the past years because I don’t live near SF but everytime I watched them play, Shawntae has been a hustla; he wasn’t perfect but he’s been working hard every year.

Tarell Brown will be really tested the next games because of our opposing team’s offenses. I really hope he comes through.

Side note: If we do REAAALLLY good these next few games..I really can’t wait for our game with the COWGIRLS.

ninerfaithful: I’d like to add my .02 cents. I really hope Martz decides to stay regardless on how our season ends. I hope he feels comfortable with the 49ers and he made a big connection with our players. I hope that’ll be a big factor in him staying with us because it really isn’t fair for our players on the OFFENSE.

  • ninerfaithful

i want martz to stay but if it coes down to him staying or leaving for head coaching job i would hope the yorks would consider axing nolan for martz

  • gee-ray

Spencer was a decent nickle back, but he consistently got burnt in the past as a corner. He cant hack man to man. IMO. anyone else ?
