Verdict is In: O’Sullivan to Start Again

Closer the season gets seems like O'Sullivan is the man

So much for the suspense this week. Mike Nolan has named his starter the Thursday’s game against the Bears and JT O’Sullivan gets his third consecutive start. Of course Nolan is still saying that the starting job is open for the regular season, but it’s obvious O’Sullivan will get the call. One reason Nolan gave for going with O’Sullivan was that it was a short week and wants to keep the rotation the same.

Against the Packers O’Sullivan finished the day 8 for 17, for 154 yards, one touchdown and one int.

Would anyone welcome back Jeff Garcia?

  2. joe gomez says:

In our sorry ass state.. why not? He has been to the Pro Bowl a few times. Someone mentioned Brad Johnson who might be somebody to look at. Culpepper is out of work but Jerry Los Banos says he heard he was overweight.

  3. Adam49 says:

Taking me to school?OK.Man i feel so bad.A little bitch like gomez sayin the same shit over and over again.Please.And if your other fat mouths bother me,think again.I used to bitch slap big mouth pussies like you queers in high school.Alex shouls start that’s the bottom line.If O’Sullivan starts and does a good job then good for Martz and Nolan. That’s what their job is to do,find the QB that is gonna help us win.I enjoy listening to you fags lickin eack others asses. But trust me,you don’t bother me any, doesn’t matter what you assholes say.LOL.Gomez was lickin ninaz ass for awhile till he bitch slapped him.lol

  4. West says:

9er4lyfe…………John Clayton of ESPN mentioned that if Smith doesn’t start, he doesn’t reach his incentives and that could save the 49ers over $20 million.

  5. Adam49 says:

I think there is a grat possibilty that Nolan will not return after this year, regardless if we have a good or bad year.Say we have a good year(which I think we are).McCloughen was a huge part of why we have picked so good in our drafts. And he isn’t gonna be goin anywhere.Nolan obviously doesn’t have a offensive bone in his body. After this year is up someone is gonna offer Martz a Head Coaching job.Our defense is in place, our Special Teams are really good, and Greg Manusky seems to know his shit.So with or without Nolan our defense is gonna get better because of McCloughen’s eye for talent and Manusky’s knowledge of the defense. And Martz, who is an offensive genius is gonna want to stay here where he has already left his footprint on the offense and he doesn’t have to start from scratch. So I believe Nolan is gone. And(this is gonna piss some you off royally.lol)Alex isn’t gonna go anywhere.Even if Martz sits Alex this year he is gonna have a year to get this offense under his belt. And a year of Martz coaching Alex on his fundamentals.I think Alex is the future of this team regardless. The only reason O’Sullivan is starting over Alex is because Martz can push his playbook forward with O’Sullivan in there since he knows the offense better than the other 2.That’s a quote from 49ersparadise.com.So those of you that think you have seen the end of Alex,I believe your sadly mistaken.

  6. Adam49 says:

Sorry for the mispelling,I only had 5 minutes to write that.

  7. 5Rings says:

Yea he had only 5 minutes, he needed to grab more ice for that lump from when he was dropped on his head. LMFAO

  8. joe gomez says:

Bitch whatever..the only thing you were slapping was Alex Smith’s booty….HAHAHAHAHA

  9. timdawg says:

u guys are cracking me the hell up. adam, i also disagree on EVERYTHING you are saying regarding Alex..the kid is NOT the future of this franchise. you are a complete idiot.

  10. joe gomez says:

Hey retard49, since were talking “Bandwagons”…my how weve jumped off the “Rollin with Nolan” bandwagon in a hurry. Now all of a sudden your starting to criticize him which ive been doing for years. Now your starting to catch on. Maybe you were really dropped on your fucken head because your stupid as shit. Sooner or later your also gonna get off the Alex Smith bandwagon. If you think were gonna pay millions for a QB to sit on the bench for a year than you are a total fucken idiot. Mark my words bitch .. “ALEX SMITH IS NOT THE FUTURE OF THIS FRANCHISE” .. his days are numbered.. and when he finally leaves…do us all a favor and join him. Your not a 49ers fan… your a 49er fake.

  11. J. Johnson says:

Atleast Adam has succumbed to the fact that his main guy or “his hero” will collecting splinters this year. I believe he was making an argument that he should start and now he just simply gave up the point. People wanted Alex to succeed so bad when we first drafted him in ‘05 that they are willing to wait and wait even if took ten years. They have it in their mind that this guy has so much potential without knowing his background in college and assume that Alex could translate his talents to the NFL level. Those people will eventual realize the truth, that Alex will never be the QB they had envisioned him to be. He’s a total bust in my honest opinion. Four years is way too long in this league.

  12. 9er4lyfe says:

I agree Johnson, there is no way in hell were gonna pay Alex all that money with him sitting on the bench. If Alex doesn’t start this year im sure there will be a deal done somehow for future draft picks or some kind of other trade. I dont see Alex as part of our future or else he would of got more reps with the first team. They practically put him in the back burner to rot. All those years and I dont think Alex made any improvement in his game. You could probably make an NFL highlight reel on him and it would be over in 20 seconds. Some guys just dont have it i.e. Druckenmiller, Carmazzi, Ryan Leaf.

  13. 5Rings says:

hey adam, did i hear you saying you used to bully kids in high school? HIGH SCHOOL? man, how old are you son? bringing up highschool explains why your so ignorant, your probably barely passed puberty kid.

  14. joe gomez says:

Man that would make Alex Smith a child molester. LMFAO

  15. SF Charlie says:

For those of you thinking that JTO is getting this job until Smith is ready, think again. JTO is getting this job until he screws it up so bad they have to turn to another Qb or his porous line gets him injured. Stop thinking Smith is the answer

  16. ninerfan77 says:

Being able to hit receivers in stride in the numbers is not system specific. That is something that you would want to do in ANY system under ANY coordinator. Why hasn’t he been able to learn how to do in this in 4 years regardless of who the OC is?
    -
Remember the Arizona game in ‘06, when they were fighting for 8-8 and the playoffs? They lost because in 2 successive series Alex smoked a absolute laser towards Gore who was 3 yards away, clanging it off of his helmet resulting in a pick.
    -
In last Friday’s game against the Raiders, where he had Walker on a quick out that would have picked up the first down if he hit him in stride. Nope, Alex put it behind him and low, on his back hip. Walker had to slow down and turn to catch the ball allowing the defender to close.
    -
Also in the game on Friday where he had J. Hill open on an intermediate crossing route. Threw it behind him allowing the defender to make a play. Would have been a 20+ yard gain if he had lead him.
    -
The Saints game in ‘06, where they went into the game thinking (rightly) that they could beat Fred Thomas deep. Antonio Bryant was running right past him all game long. One play sticks out in my mind where Bryant had him beat by 3 yards. The ball was so badly under thrown that Bryant had to stop completely, turn, and reach back to try and catch the ball on his shoelaces. Of course Thomas was able to catch up and inadvertently broke up the play by running into Bryant.
    -
How many times in ‘06 did Norv run that little play out of a 2 RB 2 TE set where they would play fake to the WR side and the weakside TE would leak out along the line of scrimage. I can recall at least three times they ran the play and each time the TE was WIDE OPEN. You would think that Smith, with a clear decision to make, no coverage, a stationary target, and no pressure could make the throw. If you did you thought wrong. Twice E Johnson had to scoop the ball off of his shoelaces. Once he overshot VD so much he had to practically do a backflip to catch the ball. Easy 10+ yard gains were turned into embarrassing 3 yards gains where the defense easily closed on receivers who were stumbling, falling, practically breaking their ankles trying to catch the horrible passes from Smith.
    -
Alex Smith has not been a good QB because he is not very good at throwing the ball to his receivers. It is very hard to be a QB when you cannot do that.

  17. joe gomez says:

well said ninerfan.. but idiots like adam49 will never understand what you just said. duuuuhhh…did alex really do that …duuuuh?

  18. Marcos says:

Alex has had the same issues he had the first day he walked on the 49er practice field. And that was 4 years ago. Whether he has had 1 or 5 OC’s has no bearing on his inability to adjust or improve fundamental QB skills. These are not physical shortcomings they are mental. You would think that someone that has been in professional camps, practices and games for this length of time would absorb a certain amount just through osmosis. Look at the improvement that Shaun Hill has made and he has been buried on the depth chart everywhere he has been. You would think that the obstacles that Alex has had to deal with would actually help develop his ability to create but Smith is so rigid in his mental approach that he lacks the necessary qualities that most NFL QBs have: to make plays!
In this past game, Starkey and Plummer commented numerous times that Alex appears uncomfortable under center, but seems in his element in the shotgun. He continues to have difficulties throwing to a spot or anticipating his receivers’ moves. He leads safeties to his targets because he does not look them off and stares at his primary receiver. When plays breakdown he is lost and generally throws the ball out of bounds. He continues to employ a single escape move when pressured, he sprints out right.
Better NFL QBs consider single coverage on a receiver as an open receiver, yet Alex becomes stymied if the receiver hasn’t clearly beaten his man. This goes to accuracy. An NFL QB has to put the ball in an 12″ box whether it is back shoulder, out front, low and away and let his receivers earn their money.

  19. Dave Smith says:

Alex is a good kid and has loads of talent. I don’t know if he’s an NFL quarterback though

  20. J. Johnson says:

J.T. is looking pretty sharp in practice. Here is a quote from the newswire:

“By unofficial stats, O’Sullivan had only one incomplete during the team portions of practice “

  21. Adam49 says:

Nope,no bandwagon jumper here.I still like Nolan, but I think his future here is now in jeopardy because of 2 things. He built a good defense that can be sustained with McCloughen and Manusky, and Martz would take care of the side of the ball Nolan couldn’t.Very simple fucksticks, pay attention. And gomez you goofball please come up with some new names.Retard49,comeon dude you can do better than that..

  22. 5Rings says:

I got one for him Gomez, how bout YoungIdiot49. Since hes bringing up his high school days, its obvious hes some young dipshit who thinks he knows Niner football. Get off the site kid, its past your bedtime.

  23. timdawg says:

who is this jerk fucksticks? adam, you need to just quit your ranting about how much you know about the QB situation. reading through all your blogs, all these people are right about you. you have no clue to what you are saying. its ridiculous to even make the statements that you make about alex smith. i would agree that you would give this kid another ten whole years to try and learn how to throw a football in this league. he has no talent but you keep trying to hype him up like he does and it is very disturbing to alot of us. i dont even think your a real niner fan. start making sense or get lost.

  24. J. Johnson says:

I read all Adam’s blogs to. Its obvious to me that he says what he says just to stir shit up. None of it makes any football sense. Firt hes all for Nolan and now hes backing away from his statements. Pretty soon hes not gonna like Alex Smith anymore. Might take a few months but hell soon realize just how wrong he was. Pay attention Adam, you might learn something. And please stop with your ignorant blogs already.

  25. joe gomez says:

Hey Adam..I think Ill stick with Adam “im an idiot” 49..thats classic..what do you think? Good move jumping off Nolan’s bandwagon, very smart move. I knew sooner or later you would see the light. Hes not a good coach and ive been saying it for years. You dont see the light with Alex yet, but trust me, when he finally shipped off somewhere, your gonna have to say..”daym Gomez..you were right, my hero does suck!”… maybe not today but in the near future, you will see the light. LMFAO.

  26. 9er4lyfe says:

Adam, its okay to give up on the Alex Smith dream. It was huge mistake. Let it go, its ok. Hes not the only QB in the world Adam. There are others. Maybe not named Alex Smith but theyre others our there. He has talent, but not enough im afraid. Youll be ok Adam, it just takes time.

  27. Adam49 says:

I’ll do what the fuck I want, when the fuck I want.Because my opinion is differant then yours you think your right.Your fuckin crazy.I don’t give a fuck what you bitches say.I’m here to stay.My ranting will continue.Bitches

  28. 5Rings says:

Poor adam, you need some tissue?

  29. joe gomez says:

Fuck Adam..hes PATHETIC. Hes probably a Raider fan whos trying to spy on us. Trying to get us all mad by hyping up Alex Smith all the time. Nice try dickhead, but you just make yourself sound stupid with your so called 49ers opinions. You have NO CLUE.

  30. 5Rings says:

Man adam, are you crying over there? LMFAO…! Yea we dont mind you staying here cry baby..just stop saying stupid shit that make no sense!

  31. J. Johnson says:

Calm down Adam, its just that you are all alone with your opinions so its just very weird to where your getting your thinking from. Just like someone said awhile ago, there are QB’s other than Alex Smith. Alex Smith is not the saving grace of our franchise. Yea we spent a great deal on him but its not the first time we made a big mistake. Does Alex Smith’s failures really hurt you that much kid?

  32. joe gomez says:

Waaa, Waaa, Waaa…if Alex doesn’t start im not gonna eat my vegetables!!!

  33. 5Rings says:

LMFAO! Good one Gomez. Man Adam wont give up on Alex no not him. Well all have walking canes and walkers and hes gonna be telling all his grandkids about all the potential Alex had and the Niners screwed him because we only gave him 4 years. Hes gonna say..”they should of atleast gave him 4 more years, hes worth the wait!.” hahaha..then hes gonna lie to them and tell stories on how Alex Smith lead his next team to the Super Bowl. LMFAO.

  34. 9er4lyfe says:

Guys quit it..im dying over here im laughing so hard. Leave the guy alone maybe hes related. Or like Jerry los banos said maybe its Alex himself. Who knows.

Go Niners!.. hope we win tomorrow!

  35. Adam49 says:

Me too.I’m laughing my ass off.Please…J.Johnson at least I know you read all my posts,TY.Look above fuckheads i’m not the only one.lol.I’m just the only one that likes to see you idiots make fools of yourselves.Fuckin idiots sayin the same thing over and over again.lmfao.Very interesting to me.Like a bunch of fuckin monkeys.I say anything and you bitches whine and cry like babies.LMFAO.But it’s boring me a little now so until someone has something interesting to say i’m done playin for now.I know something interesting won’t be coming from you morons.Go niners and go Alex!

  36. Los Banos Jerry says:

Adam if we organize a intervention on your behalf will you
participate????????????? I know your busy trying to learn
Martz playbook. And this is your 4th OC in 4 years. Alex
whoops I slipped, I meant Adam if you wouldn’t of spent
your high school years bitch slapping everyone then maybe
your trust issues with the Rec routes wouldn’t be so hard,
Sorry about the splinters. But hey maybe you could talk to
Pundit about a reference for a writers gig. John Clayton
might need a back up, but the niners don’t. Adam 2 words
    BABY STEPS

  37. Adam49 says:

    goddamn thats funny…MAN

  38. FaStRmAn says:

Well, after reading a few of these posts, I thought I was reading a RayDUHS blog !! What a bunch of DUMAZZES!

JTO is your starter. We will sink or swim with that. Smith will be traded next year. He’s already been paid for this year, 24 mil. for a friggin career bench warmer!! There needs to be a rookie cap so that the veterans who make the game what it is get paid. Tired of these bullshit rookies getting paid for nothing.

Better hope our defense can score, because I dont know if our offense has the ability to score more that 14 – 17 points.

  39. Adam49 says:

I agree with the rookie cap,no doubt.I think were gonna be alright on offense.O’Sullivan didn’t look terrible, but he didn’t look great either. The Bears D should be a good test for him.I also think Rossum’s gonna score a couple this year on Special Teams.

  40. Goldsmith 49 says:

JTO did not look impressive to me in the Green Bay game. It seems like he will make a couple of good plays then he makes a big mistake such as the Charles Woodson interception. Although Alex Smith is not looking great he has no turnovers during the preseason. JTO has 3 turnovers. I think that it should be taken into account that JTO is playing with the 1st team players and Alex is playing with the 2nd string lineman and receivers. There is a big difference. Personally I don’t feel like Alex Smith is getting a fair shake in his challenge for the starting job.

  41. 9nerfan says:

our defense will defense will be solid. i have no doubt about it. i just hope the offense can stay on he field long enough to give them a breather. oh and a least put some points on the board to. and im tired of this bullshit qb situation. i just hope who ever starts can get this offense going somehow. oh yeah and I FUCKIN HATE THE RAIDERS. should of stayed in L.A. i just felt like saying that

  42. 9nerfan says:

oh and about the rookie cap. hell yeah there should be one. there’s no way that a rook should be making as much as a tom brady or peyton manning. or any of the pro bowlers at their position. they havent proven nothing to earn that much money. fuck that. you make them earn that shit.

  43. Adam49 says:

Anquan Boldin has asked to be traded from the Cardinals.Man,that would be a good pickup.Bryant Johnson would be seated behind Boldin, again.

  44. 5Rings says:

That would be another great target for Alex..oops I forgot he’s riding the pine…LMFAO!

  45. sf says:

Can anybody tell me where to watch the game 4 free. I know theres TVU but I can never tune in. It doesnt have channel 5. Please HELP!!!

  46. Adam49 says:

I live in Southern Cali and it’s on channel 13 at 5:00

  47. Los Banos Jerry says:

SF on channel 2 at 5

  48. Niner Pundit says:

sf…if I’m not mistaken the game is nationally televised and should be on your FOX affiliate.

  49. sf says:

Niner Pundit—you are right. It is nationally televised. Thanks for the info.
