Walker Extended to 2012

Jun 21, 2008 11 Comments by Niner Pundit

Delanie Walker, the 49ers sixth-round draft pick in 2006, received a three-year extension worth $6 million this offseason. The deal included a $1.8 million signing bonus. He is now signed through the 2012 season.

The 49ers’ decision to reward Walker is interesting because he has just 23 career receptions in 23 NFL games. Last season, he caught 21 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown. But it might be an indication the 49ers expect Walker to flourish with Mike Martz as offensive coordinator.

That’s a good sign I always like Delanie Walkers and how hard he plays.

Stats misrepresent the talent and energy this guy has. I am glad that the Niners are getting him cheap now.

    I like Walker…
I really see him as a fullback though.
So much speed for a TE or FB.
He has good hands because of his play as a receiver.
If they can make a good back field blocker out of him, he’d be much more valuable.
Matt makes a good point…is he going to be used more in this new offense? Is that why Extension? What is his role now that we have returners?

    Sincerely,
    A Loving Black Man

I love Delanie Walker and what he brings to our team I think he has the potential to beat out Vernon Davis!! Yes I went there dont like then oh well but in the end Delanie is our future starting TE!!! :]

I like the fact that we are signing some of our guys before they hit the free agent market. Some other guys that we need resign include Vernon Davis, David Baas, Manny Lawson, Parys Haralson, and Fields(NT). If we sign them before they hit the free agent market hopefully it will keep us in good cap shape until the next collective bargaining agreement. I think this will help in the future by keeping our own guys while they develop. We still have a couple of years on Patrick Willis, and Joe Staley.

Great move, I always have thought with the right coach he will go places on the team. Now we locked him up and a good price.
