Groves to Visit Next Week

Quentin Groves, the defensive end-turned-linebacker from Auburn, will pay the 49ers a pre-draft visit one week from today, according to his agent. The 49ers are believed to be eying Groves for the Will linebacker spot that primarily provides the pass rush in the 49ers’ 3-4 defense.

I love this guy too! Say he came here and tore it up, I would have no questions at all, but what happens to our other guys in the same position? We have Haralson, who seems to be on the rise, and J.Moore who def has the size, and decent speed to do a good job for us, lastly we have TBC. How do we spread that out? Can any of those guys switch sides and cover a TE?… Don’t get me wrong, I want the guy on this team, I just don’t want to get my hopes up for a guy that is nothing more than a smoke screen in the draft.

We can’t tamper with a guy we don’t KNOW FOR A FACT will be there when we pick. The niners are a LONG shot to get this guy. I am not trying to burst your bubble, but tampering just couldn’t come in to play with this situation. We SHOULD be getting a starting right tackle with our first pick. Groves is good, but I think Haralson or Jay Moore will be forces this year. Why waste our first pick on a position that already has talent there? IF we draft him then WHY did we draft Haralson and Moore? We haven’t even seen Moore yet and we are already going to concede that he was a failed draft pick? We NEED to go right tackle. Put some pressure on Mr. Glass. If we drafted Cherilius or Otah then the message would be loud and clear to Jennings……QUIT being a vagina or get the hell out of town. I still say Jennings would be better suited at center.
we wouldn’t be tampering with anyone since he nor any other of the draft prospects are signed to deals with anyone. So no point of even bringing that up. I do agree with you ryan. Tackle is our biggest need though.
Ryan and Mike I agree right tackle is our biggest priority. Groves coming in for a visit is a pipe dream. he won’t fall past 23. As
well as Albert being gone. Cherilus might still be there. If he’s not, then I think we go after Tony Hills in the 3rd, (not much of a
drop off). In the 1st we have to stay with the best available. We
have to many needs. Now don’t laugh when I say this OLB Dan Conner
will be there at 29. He’s a true OLB not a tweener. He would be a
huge upgrade over TBC. Or if Moore / Haralson step up. Conner could
play the Ted Backer. Another huge upgrade. Our Ted backers are all
special team stand outs but not close to pro-bowl talent. if we sign
spikes that will help. But I think we low balled him.
Second round we need to address WR. Bruce has only 1 more year. I
love Caldwell. He won’t be there at the 75th pick. Tony Hills will
be probably. This is what i’m thinking, trade back 39 to about 49.
Pick up another 4th or 5th round pick. Caldwell should be there still. I think he beats out Arnaz Battle for the slot (3rd rec).

Moe yes we do need pass rush. I’ve been saying for a couple of months, the niners aren’t gonna improve without OL and front 7.
We’ve signed some free agent help. J Smith. but we need more help.
We lost D Smith, M Douglas, and B Young retired. Adding one free
agent. And hoping last years 3rd and 4th round draft picks are gonna
pick up the slack is a little optimistic. Are D line was horrible
last year, and gonna be weaker this year.
Picking 29th the top OL are gonna be gone. Thank God we can still
get starter talent late in the 2nd or early 3rd. Alot of people on this site want James Hardy WR. We will never draft him. Can’t block,
Instead of studying his playbook he beats up his girlfriend, and her
son. Just because hes tall and fast. Hes got bust written all over him. the last thing we need is another 1st day bust at WR.
If Albert or Cherillus don’t fall we need to go best available.
Either CB, DE, DT, LB, S. There are plenty of WR and OL for the 2nd and 3rd round. Groves would be great, so would Balmer, Conner, Calais, Phillips, Talib.
LOS Banos Jerry….as for Connor i think hes more of a luxury pick because hes not going to play olb in the 3/4…so if we draft him with our first.. we still wouldnt have helped our 2 biggest needs pass rusher and O line… Dont get me wrong Connor is a tackiling machine but he not great at pass rushing and we already have a tackiling machine in willis…i think we could get a good ilb in the later rounds instead of investing another 1st round pick into one…id rather have us look at FS,WR,OT,DE/OLB which are all bigger needs in round 1.
