Niners & Smith Agree on a Deal

The 49ers and DE Justin Smith (Bengals) have reached an agreement, but nothing has been signed. Deal is believed to be $32.5 million in the first four years of the contract, overall 6-years, $45 million. The signing of Smith immediately improves the 49ers horrid pass rushing defense. Smith was the fourth overall pick back in 2001. During his seven year career Smith has recorded a total of 43.5 sacks.

Smith’s signing also fills a void on the line with the retirement of Bryant Young and most likely loss of Marques Douglas.

ryan i beg 2 differ its hard 2 get anyballs thrown your way when u have fitz and bolden plus eddergin on your team martz has a rep for making even the third receiver look great and johnson is a better talent than anyone on the niners roster right now hardy @ best is a project and we need help instantly last time we used a low first round pick on a receiver rashaun woods dazzled us with his presence dare to repeat that?

  2. MSouza says:

Ryan do you mean James Hardy is a future number 1 target? Or, do you mean he is a number 1 coming out, because I don’t think his immediate impact would be much more than a jump ball receiver. He has infinite potential, but his route running just isn’t there yet, and he probably will look pretty foolish trying to get off the line against NFL corners for much of his first season.

  3. Los Banos Jerry says:

If Hardy is ther in the 3rd round we grab him. OT 1st, Pass rush 2nd Groves, Hardy 3rd.

  4. Ryan the 1st says:

MSouza, I am with you completely he isn’t going to be Plaxico right out of the gate……but why take a chance on that NUMBER 3 receiver from the Cardinals when we can draft Hardy and not risk OVERPAYING HIM. Hardy can be a number one receiver. He will have to be……anyone who doesn’t think he has that kind of potential is not paying attention. I am willing to bet that Martz will cure Hardy of his route running ability. However, that being said, we still don’t know if he will WANT Hardy. The Lion were the first team martz had ever encountered that had TALL RECEIVERs. All of the rest were 6′0″. Martz likes receivers to be 6′0″ and VERY FAST. He is all about the WR catching the ball while still running and timing it so they can keep their speed going down field. Overpaying this Arizona receiver would be a mistake because he has proven NOTHING to me that has shown me that he can be a SURE FIRE #1.

  5. Ryan the 1st says:

By the way, there is no way Hardy lasts past the 1st half of the second round.

  6. erik says:

If we don’t get help on the offensive line it won’t matter who our WRs are. You can’t throw accurate passes while laying on your back.

  7. Erock85 says:

Here, here Erik… OL help is needed for sure. We should have taken Faneca on a Helicopter ride to get him here.

  8. R,Craig33 says:

It seems that ESPN analyst is still trashing our signing of Justin Smith check out ESPN.com and on the main page next to the culpepper moss thing click on harsh remarks if yall didn’t see it already.

  9. R,Craig33 says:

I meant to say even though it was an apology afterwards.

  10. Douche Bag says:

The draft is pretty deep at WR and OL. I think its pretty clear given the way free agency has played out for us thus far that our first couple picks will address those areas! All will depend on who the best player available is. I like our chances of getting two solid players for those positions!

  11. 49ersfan77 says:

great free agent period go 49ers!!!!

  12. Douche Bag says:

Does anyone know the status on Pace? Bryant Johnson? What about the latest on Douglass?

  13. Niner Pundit says:

Pace most likely to Dolphins. Johnson to Bills. Nothing new on Douglas he met with Tampa.

  14. Dan says:

Im watching re-runs of the combine, and its the DB day. I know it’s not a need, but ROGERS-CROMARTIE is a beast. I have a man crush on him, and I hope we have a chance to draft him. -(I have a feeling some people are gonna talk about need and stuff, but don’t get your panties in a ruffle, I’m just talking out my rear.)

  15. Josol21 says:

Dan.. i completely agree with you DRC is a stud and even though the niners have needs i would not be mad if we grabbed cromartie in the 1st…this guy will be good

  16. Douche Bag says:

Agree also Dan, but this guy is rising so fast he might not be there when we pick!

  17. Jeff says:

We should try to snag Bryant Johnson (before the Bills sign him) and pick up Shane Olivea. Both these guys would want to play in California

  18. Mike says:

    Pace Signed with Jets.
Johnson appears to be going to Bills don’t know if its official yet.
Olivea i would like us to go after though. Solid player not a pro bowler but a solid OT.

  19. Frankthetank says:

ESPN.com has learned that Pace on Monday afternoon reached an agreement with the New York Jets on a six-year, $42 million contract. The deal, negotiated by agent Pat Dye Jr. and his associates at Atlanta-based ProFiles Sports Management, includes a signing bonus of $20 million and $22 million in total guarantees.

The contract, which makes Pace one of the highest paid linebackers in NFL history, will pay out $26 million in its first three years

WOW!!!! CAN YOU SAY OVERPAID! the guy had one good year in a contract year the jets are retarded and i am glad we didnt pay this kid of money to some arizona trash

  20. mr peanut says:

i hear the coaches in sd say olivea lost his fire thats why they just cut him. i dont think nolan takes a chance here!

  21. MSouza says:

I can’t believe Pace got that much, man Mangini is really desperate to beat his mentor. After seeing how much some of these got on the market I can understand why Nolan didn’t go after them.\, they all wanted way too much money.

  22. 49er4Life says:

I got a Question maybe someone can answer for me why is it that every team in the NFL gets to spend over the top dollars for players an it’s a good sign but when the 49ers sign someone we over spent and it’s not a good idea to spend that on a player let someone else sign Issac Bruce or Justin Smith, Deshaun Foster an it’s the best move for that team. We spend money to get players and we just get critizied for every move? It seems like no one wants to be on our band wagon any more rumors about us? Or if we do make any more moves every one will disagree with that move to?

  23. Samra says:

49er4life its cuz back in the day everybody hated us cuz we were the patriots but with class and one hell of a coach named walsh…walsh shitted on Billicheck…nobody liked us then and now nobody wants us back up there

  24. Texas9ner says:

Espn is east coast byast no matter how much they won’t admit to it. If the Patriots and Yankees asked ESPN to lick there balls ESPN would do it without question. I don’t even watch ESPN unless Steve is talking about football. Nfl network is were its at. They show no byast to any team. But the best place to get info is from yall on here. Thanks for making this website. I live in Waco, Tx so its really hard to get info about the 49ers around here. Fuck the Cowboys! 24years and counting of bleeding RED and Gold! Lets whip some ass this year!

  25. AXEGRINDER says:

I agree 100% Samra. Everyone hated on us then and I don’t give a shit if they hate on us now. I guess the only modern-era team one could compare us to is the Pats except that the Niners beat way better teams with consistency. Let’s see if Belecheater could go up against the 85 Bears or the Giants, Cowboys, or Redskins of that era. THEY WOULD GET SMOKED.

    Here’s to number 6.

  26. Mike says:

I think its more Red Sox then Yankees. Since almost every analyst with ESPN is a SOX fan. But I am on the East Coast and I do agree with fact that they are biased and lean toward more reporting on East coast teams with more respect then other area’s in the country.

  27. Mike says:

I think a lot of analysts with espn to may have some resentment toward 49ers b/c almost every one of them picked the niners to be a sleeper pick last year and most people overall did. And we had a bad season and they all looked like fools.. So now its why get on that bandwagon again saying watch out for them when they burned us last year when we said that. Team is just going to have to go out and earn there respect by having one hell of a season and thats how you get back at analysts who say negative crap about them

  28. Billy says:

The Bright Side to this is NO BANDWAGONERS are going to be on ourside when we have a KICKASS SEASON!!!

  29. Erock85 says:

Texas9er you are the man. I hate the damn Cowgirls… I can’t imagine having to live around there. Way to stay true. Hopefully you can make it out to see us whip them this season in Dallas. Be loud and proud.

Oh yeah… not Niner news, but Favre just retired.

  30. red&goldforlife says:

  38. Texas9ner says:

How do you put those pics on the side of your comments?

  39. Texas9ner says:

I will be the first in line at Texas Stadium to get my tickets to see Dallas get there ass whipped. I wear my 49ers shit all the time down here. Most people don’t say shit because Im 6′5 300lbs but for those that do I’ll make them bleed red from the gold on my hand.

  40. Goodbye lloyd says:

6′5″ 300lbs? For crying out loud go on a diet!

  41. ninersgold says:

 “go on a diet” You will make him  and also very angry, I think he will make you just bleed red.

  42. Frankthetank says:

Wide receiver Javon Walker, released by the Denver Broncos on Friday, agreed to a deal with the division-rival Oakland Raiders on Tuesday, a source told ESPN.com’s Michael Smith.
The terms of the deal call for Walker to receive a six-year, $55 million contract that includes more than $16 million in guarantees and pays him roughly $27 million over the first three years of the deal.

    Raiders still eat cock

  43. Texas9ner says:

Goodbye Lloyd, you are very lucky you don’t live in Texas. I would like to see you say that to my face and not on a computer. And if you do live near I live in Waco Tx on Rita street of I-35. Come see me.

  44. Niner Pundit says:

Texas9ner…go to http://gravatar.com and you can signup there. Upload and image and it will carry over to here. You do have to register here for that to work however. If you do register at both places, make sure you use the same email address for both registrations.

  47. Will G says:

THis site is falling off!. Update some articles and give us some news! This Justin Smith article has been #1 since we signed him, but there is plenty going on!

  48. R,Craig33 says:

I’m still trippin off the fact that not only the raiders signed Kwame Harris but they gave him 13 million to let his QB get smacked from his side.

The raiders have a habit of picking up our old players like they want to have a tradition like our franchise like Al Davis always looked up to the 49ers organization and how they do things even at our lowest point he still wants to pick up our old players.

I CAN’T BELIEVE HE GAVE DUDE 13 MILLION I’M BUGGIN OFF THAT SHIT WHAT A FUCKIN IDIOT!

  49. ninerfaithful says:

Will G there really isnt anything happening in niner land right now i check alot of sites out on a daily basis and it is very dry …..
