D-Jack Sent to D-Curb

Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the 49ers will send wide receiver Darrell Jackson to the curb. This isn’t really a surprise since Stonehands Jackson couldn’t catch a cold last season.

With the signing of Bryant Johnson yesterday there was a logjam at wide receiver and it seems the coaching staff feels Jackson is the odd man out.

D-jax didn’t belong in S.F. What a waste of a fourth round pick!

  2. R,Craig33 says:

It looks like the beloved Alex Smith is on the bubble according to NFL Total Access I know how some of us on here feels about him and all but I DO NOT feel comfortable about our QB position and it’s not guaranteed that Hill will play like that if he was starter I’m just only speaking on how I feel about it because when you mention Alex Smith he doesn’t wow or put fear in the hearts of the opposing teams as if he could pick a team apart and beat them in clutch situations so I say they shouldn’t had picked up the option on his contract so quicky and we need to address the QB position.

  3. Frankthetank says:

One day after San Francisco signed free-agent wide receiver Bryant Johnson to a one-year contract, the 49ers placed wide receiver Darrell Jackson on waivers, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter is reporting.

Jackson — a three-time 1,000-yard receiver for the Seahawks — struggled to be the receiver the 49ers hoped he would be when they traded a fourth-round pick to Seattle last year.

This offseason, the 49ers have signed free-agent wide receivers Isaac Bruce and Johnson, making Jackson

  4. Los Banos Jerry says:

Its official ,,, Its posted on the 49ers web site now………..

  5. Indiana Jim says:

    Very happy about this move.

  6. Rizzle says:

We cut Darrel Jackson?!?!?! Why didn’t we cut Ashley Lelie instead? At least Jackson has a history of playing well. Lelie hasn’t done anything in his entire career.

  7. Mike says:

I said Jackson or Lelie one or both would be the 2 to get cut. Guess Martz likes Lelie’s speed better then Jackson.

  8. Samra says:

Like i said we got nothing in return for Brandon Lloyd we wasted both a 3rd (Brandon Williams) and a 4th round pick (Darrell Jackson)….

  9. P says:

If they actually give Lelie a shot this year then I’m okay with the move. But if they just have him ride the pine like last year it won’t make any sense. I feel everyone deserves a 2nd chance, especially former Pro Bowlers. Especially when you gave up a 4th round pick. I mean he was our #1 last year, they must have really thought he could neer pick h is game back up.

  10. Mike says:

As far as A. Smith being on the bubble. We just picked up option on his deal extending his career here. I think Martz will fix and quicken up his release. He has the Tools. When Turner was here he started to show them. Now another real OC is here with Martz. He will have them come out again. I have complete faith in Smith this season. I think Martz works with him. I am honestly not worried on QB. I want to give Smith the opportunity. Only 1 year has he had a GOOD OC. and he played pretty well. SO give him chance to show what he’s got when someone LEGIT is calling plays and working with him in practice.

  11. Mike says:

I don’t think it has anything to do with getting game back or not. I think it was more of trying to set up Martz system with offense. Jackson’s play may not fit what he wants.
But I think Jackson wrote his meal ticket out of here during season when he dropped practically half balls thrown at him.
Lelie only has 1 year left on his deal. Speed is def there. However I think that we may draft 2 wr in draft and then lelie will have to battle it out with a rookie for a spot.

  12. Mike says:

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers waived receiver Darrell Jackson on Saturday after one unproductive season with the club.

Jackson joined the 49ers in a trade last April after eight seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He made at least one catch in each of his 15 starts for San Francisco, but finished the season with just 46 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns in the NFL’s least productive offense.

“I always had a great deal of respect for Darrell,” 49ers coach Mike Nolan said. “While we are going in a different direction, I know he can still produce and be an asset to an NFL team this year.”

The 49ers signed longtime Rams receiver Isaac Bruce to a two-year, $6 million deal last month. Jackson would have made $4 Million next season in salary and bonuses.

    From ESPN.com http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3295058
I’m thinking that 4 Mill. cap figure may have been a reason to cut him. I know we have room but maybe wanted to free that up to sign maybe Spikes. And still be flexible with cap.

  13. Erock85 says:

Glad they chose to get rid of D-Jax rather than Battle. Battle needs to be our #3 for sure. He was the only WR who actually showed up to play ball. As for Lelie… huge disappointment last year, but maybe Martz can use his speed for good this season. Good call Niners!

  14. MSouza says:

The reason why we cut Jackson and not Lelie is because we get more cap room from cutting Jackson, and NONE of our recievers are even close to being a deep threat other than Lelie, and maybe Jason Hill we don’t know yet.

  15. pintor98 says:

This is from niners cap hell.com

Veteran wideout Darrell Jackson’s contract has been terminated. Jackson was acquired last year via trade and did not have his contract restructured, so none of the money left was guaranteed. The 49ers will save $3.8 million on this year’s cap and $4.3 million next year. He was made expendable after the team added Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson in free agency.

I would get rid of Lelie too and draft two wr this year.

Aslie lelie cap number for 2008
    WR 2008 Total $2,006,720 SB $1,006,720 Base $1,000,000

    Seems like a good move

  16. Los Banos Jerry says:

Don”t be surprised if LELIE is next: The 14 week conditioning program starts Monday. The last thing they need is for someone to
develope a stupid injury. Not only do they need money for TKO,(hope)
they need to sign depth at GUARD…… Lelie is next to go

  17. Mike says:

I don’t know if we sign a guard or not. I think Guard and Tackle will both be things taken in the draft at some point. I think those are the biggest needs we have right now.
Lelie will be Next WR out of town though. He only has a 2 mill. cap figure. so it’s not unreasonable if he is used this year. However like i said before. Draft 2 WR and he’s going to have to EARN that roster spot this year. Or Rookie will take it from him

  18. Los Banos Jerry says:

Mike we only have Heitman, Baas, Wragge, and maybe Snyder at Guard.
Staley, Jennings (plastic man) june 1 cut, Ducket (?????), an Snyder
at tackle. We need to pick up B Albert with our 1st pick, left guard
or left tackle, ( alot of teams think he will play left tackle in
    the pros).
with our 2nd pick, we need an D end, Balmer or Calais Campbell.
with our 3rd we hope Andre Caldwell is still there if he is I think
he can start in the slot, like he did in the Senior Bowl……
Martz loves his big play ability……..
4th WR Royal or Hardy, don’t laugh he’s falling faster than our
    economy…
    5th OL or Safety

  19. Los Banos Jerry says:

Either way we need a veteran guard for depth in case it takes our
draft pick 6- 10 games to get on track, or injury. like a M Brown
from the Rams (use to martz system)

  20. ninerfaithful says:

left out of town and all this goes down in niner land better dosome more traveling i am stoked we scored bryant johnson

  21. mark22 says:

the only reason they cut d-jax instead of Leile is bc of money $ y spend hella money for a guy tht aint goin to put big numbers up..

  22. Josol21 says:

    Breaking news http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3295344

Deangelo hall to be traded to the raiders for a 2nd round draft pick

  23. Medford says:

Hey Los Banos why didnt u belive me earlier about Jacksons release? Adam Schefter is not wrong about things dont always wait for 49ers.com to report it or u will get older. It took them a week and a half to report Issac Bruce had signed…..

  24. Medford says:

Good for Deangelo Hall REAL ASSHOLES WEAR SILVER AND BLACK!!

  25. Billy says:

The Raiders just throw money at any player they want heck look at the deal they gave Kwame Harris (penalty problems), Javon Walker(injury problems), there defensive tackle I forgot his name and I dont know about him but I think hes average at best. Well they give lucrative deals!!! Lets hope Al Davis keeps screwing his own organization over

  26. Billy says:

Even if he didnt we’d still kick their asses

  27. Mike says:

Jerry, I would love albert in the first. I am all for first round OLINE I have been saying that if you read some of my other posts. He could play tackle in pro’s b/c of his footwork however I think he would be a probowl Guard. Question is do the Steelers grab him before us since they obviously need a new guard with Faneca gone.

I disagree with DE though. We just signed Smith. He takes one end spot. I think Sopoaga takes other spot. He’s better suited for DE then NT. My opinion. And we did give him a nice size contract so he’s gotta be starting. DE just fits to me. With Oliver and McDonald backing them up. At NT we have Franklin and Cohen. Not really great there. I think NEED ON DLINE IS NT. I love Rubin from Iowa State for that. Could be there in 3rd for us.
Hardy I dont think makes it to us in the 2nd round. SO I don’t know where you are hearing about his stock falling b/c everything I have read has his stock up b/c of his size and he ran good 40 time at combine. He is one of top 5 WR in draft. At worse he’s there for us in the 2nd.
Caldwell upped his stock at senior bowl and could be 2nd round pick now.I have read some places he could slide up into late first early 2nd. He would fit perfect in system though. And he played spread in college so wouldn’t be to much of a challenge to pick up for him. Royal jumped his stock up to at senior bowl and is probably a 3rd rounder especially with his ability to return punts.

  28. 9nation says:

As far as alex. the two seasons ago when we went 7 and 9. just think if kwame hadn’t had all those touchdowns negated. Alex’s current credit would be so much better. Well kwame (Penalty Master) is gone. Go niners

  29. Mike says:

I can’t see them taking draft picks from us even if they find for tampering. Maybe a fine. However I think this is really all blown out since he ended up back with the bears anyway.
Now big thing is that with all the tampering speculation that was out there about us and briggs when free agency first started apparently we never even contacted him to bring him in once it started. We may have been interested and contacted his agent about an extension during trade talks we had during season with bears when looked like may acquire him.
This I can’t see being as huge as they are blowing it out to be. Bears need to just shut up and chill. Especially since they got him back. It’s not like he signed with us or even came in for an interview with us when free agency started.

  30. Josol21 says:

yeah this actually really pisses me off… the 49ers werent the only team tampering this season i think it happens alot in the nfl…and the bears didnt lose briggs to us anyways soo why are they pursuing this so hard?

  31. ninersgold says:

EXACTLY, THEY AREN’T GOING TO GET ANYTHING!, even if we get in trouble, they just hate us because of the rumors of Berrian and BRIGGS COMING HERE in the first place. I think they heard rumors and fraked out, tell them to shut the fuck up! Fuck the Bears, they will never get to another superbowl for many years now, the Niners curse on the Bears. Buncha bitches they are upset cause they suck ASS!

  32. AXEGRINDER says:

The Bears are a bunch of fags. They are just pissed they got a crappy team with 3 crappy quarterbacks. Their defense is getting old and their offense just plain sucks, and the organization is notoriously CHEAP. They’re not going anywhere so they’re trying to drag someone down with them. It’s all a bunch of bullshit. FUCK ‘EM!!!

  33. jc25 says:

i dont know why all you people think alex cant get the job done, he can, remember last year he was making plays the recievers werent, perfect pass to jackson and he dropped a touchdown, and then he got hurt hes better than all you people put him as

  34. Los Banos Jerry says:

Medford: Its not that I didn’t believe you. But that I didn’t
believe, Profootball talk .com. Schefter is right mor often than wrong. (2 months ago he said Kiffin was fired from the Raiders.
The niner website is very fast when it comes to cuts and slow when
it comes to signings. My Bad, good quick post.

Of course this doesn’t mean the 49ers see it this way. They update
    it every couple weeks………..

  36. R,Craig33 says:

The niners brought Takeo Spikes in for a visit but didn’t schedual a visit for Bryant Johnson and signed him and we didn’t see that coming so what’s going on with Takeo?

  37. Mike says:

First off a site that has Golston who is a DE/OLB at 36 best prospect loses something b/c almost every draft expert has him as a LOCK top 10 pick. Soon as I started reading who they had above some other prospects. Totally lost it for me. 2 te’s in top 25. This class is terrible in TE and most say one won’t be taken until atleast the 2nd round. Jake Long at 8 overall. Most have him atleast top 3. Him and Chris long most say are 2 prospects most feel you can’t miss on. Chris Johnson and Jamal Charles 20 an 21 overall. NO FRIGIN WAY. They are 2nd round picks. Johnson b/c he ran a smokin 40 is only 1 who could try to sneak into first round. I could continue on but I don’t have time.
    But want to go lists..
Scout’s inc is headed by Todd Mcshay and Gary Horton. I don’t like Kiper at all I think he doesn’t know anything really but Mcshay is usually pretty dead on or if not dead on, damn close.
There’s Scout Inc.’s top 32 overall and Hardy is 25th OVERALL.

Scouts Inc.’s Top 32Player Pos. School Grade
    1. Darren McFadden RB Arkansas 99
    2. Chris Long DE Virginia 98
    3. Jake Long OT Michigan 98
    4. Glenn Dorsey DT LSU 98
    5. Matt Ryan QB Boston Coll. 98
    6. Sedrick Ellis DT USC 97
    7. Vernon Gholston DE Ohio State 96
    8. Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois 96
    9. Ryan Clady OT Boise St. 95
    10. Leodis McKelvin CB Troy 95
    11. Chris Williams OT Vanderbilt 95
    12. Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon 94
    13. Keith Rivers OLB USC 94
    14. Mike Jenkins CB S. Florida 94
    15. Derrick Harvey DE Florida 93
    16. Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma 93
    17. Phillip Merling DE Clemson 92
    18. Limas Sweed WR Texas 92
    19. Jeff Otah OT Pittsburgh 92
    20. Kentwan Balmer DT N. Carolina 92
    21. Dan Connor OLB Penn State 92
    22. DeSean Jackson WR California 91
    23. Brian Brohm QB Louisville 91
    24. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tenn. St. 91
    25. James Hardy WR Indiana 90
    26. Aqib Talib CB Kansas 90
    27. Mario Manningham* WR Michigan 89
    28. Branden Albert G Virginia 89
    29. Devin Thomas WR Michigan St. 88
    30. Fred Davis TE USC 88
    31. Calais Campbell RB Arkansas 88
    32. Early Doucet WR LSU 87

Now every team grades player’s differently So everyone has there own grades for each prospect. Scout.com is only site that has Hardy graded that low that I’ve seen.

  38. Los Banos Jerry says:

You’re right every sight has a different slant. I’ve seen yours also
No way Hardy goes before Devin Thomas or Branden Albert. But lets hope so. I feel there the best players at there position.

Lets go to there web sites April 25th, and see how close there final
    evaluation is on Draft day.

We definately agree on who we need, the fun part is trying to figure
out when and who we will get……..

  39. AM says:

now we gotta sign dj hackett to keep the trio going….

  40. Los Banos Jerry says:

No way for dj:::::::::You talk about injury prone……..Look at his
numbers there horrible…He wouldn’t ba able to beat out Battle or
Lelie…..Our money would be better spent else where

  41. ninersgold says:

Hardy is a second round pick and whoever selcts him in the first picked him up to early. Nobody wants him in the first because he had an off the field issue in 2006. He seems to have matured (in my opinion he has) but he is still a risk to teams and he will be a 2nd round pick. No doubt, even after that combine he had, he is a second round pick. DJ Hackett, he was actually very good when he played, but he sucks ass cuz he can’t stay on the field. I rmemeber on my fantasy team he would get 12 points a game he played in, that is very solid for a WR in fanatsy football, but he only played in 5 games! I picked him up every time he played as my 3rd WR. He was a nice pick up for Fantasy. No way, Nolan won’t want him because he gets injured.

I hope we pick up Gosder Cherilius for RT or OLB Quentin Groves with our 1st round pick And if it is possible us trading our first pick of 2009 for another late 1st rounder of this draft so we can get both of them. Than in the second we could easily pick up James Hardy WR.

In the third round pick up NT Ahtyba Rubin 6′2″ 320 pounds plus. With our 4th pick we should pick up a Guard or keep satcking up with WRs with Will Franklin trying to figure out which ones are good.

It looks like the Niners are trying to get as many WRs as possible and seeing which ones work out. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we did draft two WRs. It’s like we are getting a bunch of puzzle peices and trying to see which ones fit for us out of the whole bunch.

  42. Los Banos Jerry says:

Ninersgold did Hardy play in the Senior Bowl? I couldn’t find any
stats for. If not did he play in the East West? curious how he did
    against allstars.

  43. Ryan the 1st says:

He’s a junior. What is up with TAKEO SPIKES???? I can find no NEW news about it. It is too quiet.

  44. MSouza says:

I haven’t seen any news articles for a few days on the web dealing with Takeo. It makes me wonder if he passed his physical or not, because the off season work out program starts tomorrow and the niners expect to get about 95% turn out.

  45. AM says:

i dont want dj hackett Los Banos Jerry it was just a joke cuz we have so many rival recievers now…

  46. Ryan the 1st says:

Well, IF Takeo failed a physical then the niners are smart to not sign him. It is GREAT that they are going after talent, but they are even smarter if they see something attractive and know when to walk away. I think Spikes is really appealing to Nolan because he is aching for a TED linebacker that is really good. If anyone hears anything…..please, give a source.

  47. West says:

R we finna make a run at D. Hall……… Raiders r looking to give up there 2nd round pick for him…..would b nice to have two lock down corners long term…… Walt mayb gone next year..

  48. Los Banos Jerry says:

No he wants Nate Clements money, thats what is holding up the trade to the Traiders. We need our 2nd round pick. wouldn’t mine having the Traiders 2nd rounder also.
