Robinson Gets Extended

Feb 28, 2008 32 Comments by Niner Pundit

The 49ers continued to make moves on Thursday. Shortly after exercising the buy-back option on Alex Smith, the 49ers extended the contract of RB Michael Robinson. ESPN is reporting that the 49ers extended the contract of Michael Robinson three years, which will keep him under contract until 2012.

Under terms of his original deal, signed as a rookie in 2008, Robinson was to have earned base salaries of $445,000 in 2008 and $530,000 for 2009. Complete financial details of the extension were not disclosed.

    MOSS STAYING PUT?

Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that receiver Randy Moss is “signed, sealed, and delivered” to remain in New England.

There has been no official word from the team of any deal.

On Thursday, the Panthers emerged as an unlikely potential candidate for his services.

  15. Ryan the 1st says:

The niners have some explaining to do about Berrian being scooped by the Vikes FROM CALIFORNIA!!!

  16. Josol21 says:

yeah that is a pretty interesting article

  17. webehighrollin says:

ok berrian for 25 million is retarted..let him go to minnesota..

  18. Ryan the 1st says:

So far the niners are looking REALLY shallow on getting PLAYMAKER and LONG ON getting the SAME OLE players locked up for a while.

  19. Josol21 says:

i have a feeling we might be intrested in Bryant Johnson or possibly Stallworth

  20. erik says:

Bryant Johnson would be great..big bang for the buck!

  21. Josol21 says:

yeah he would be….it would be awsome to stick it to a division rival too

  22. erik says:

Just saw a post saying Kwame Harris is a raider…good riddens?

  23. Josol21 says:

Niners plenty active at the start of free agency

The 49ers have not been passive at the start of free agency, as several fairly significant things are in the works, including a visit from Bengals free-agent DE Justin Smith tomorrow (Friday). He has not agreed to terms with anyone, and he also is reportedly making a trip to meet with the Vikings.

    MORE TO COME

  24. Josol21 says:

yeah Kwame agreed to terms with the raiders…… HARRIS TO THE RAIDERS

A league source tells us that the Oakland Raiders have reached an agreement with former 49ers tackle Kwame Harris.

    Harris was a first-round pick in 2003.

No financial details are presently available

  25. Josol21 says:

There is word that the 49ers have agreed to terms with QB J.T. O’Sullivan (Lions), LB Dontarrious Thomas (Vikings) and RB DeShaun Foster (recently cut by the Panthers). Terms of these deals are not known.

  26. Ryan the 1st says:

Foster is a two year deal…saw it on ESPN….these are HARDLY SPLASHES I WOULD SAY…..more like the niners are staying put in the yard sale special bin. GET SOME PLAYERS….we have enough back ups.

  27. Niner Pundit says:

Ryan…FA is two hours old. I doubt anything groundbreaking will be done/agreed to until tomorrow/Saturday. Sullivan, Foster, and Thomas are solid pickups that provide depth.

  28. pintor98 says:

They should take thier time and not hurry on overpaying. There will be more players cut. With the signing of Thomas ILB I think the niners are going to go after J. Smith and C. Pace. I also think the niners would rather pay Faneca 4yrs 25 million than berrian 25 million.

  29. Mike says:

    RYAN CHILL OUT!!!
“Finally, McCloughan warned fans not to expect the same excitement generated by the club during the NFL’s free-agent signing period last season, when they inked cornerback Nate Clements and safety Michael Lewis to lucrative deals in the opening hours. McCloughan confirmed the 49ers are most interested in bolstering their defensive line.

“We don’t feel like we have to go out and make a big splash right away,” McCloughan said”

AGAIN HE WARNED NO BIG SPLASH RIGHT AWAY. I DON’T THINK WE WILL MAKE A HUGE SPLASH AT ALL.

  30. Ryan the 1st says:

Yeah, maybe I do need to chill out, but I just am thinking that there are NEEDS out there and WE HAVE THE MONEY….why not get Justin Smith AND FANECA? It sounds like we are going to TRY for Justin Smith and Isaac Bruce is on his way to SF right now. Mike, what do you think about all of this? What is your dream picture out of this? I honestly don’t have one, but I know that Faneca and Smith would upgrade us in two MAJOR areas that we struggled last year. No, I am not saying Larry Allen was the problem, but he is no longer the solution and Faneca screams Steve Hutchinson to me. Alex Smith would have more time and Gore will be able to make more plays. Don’t you think we should ALSO replace Heitman through the draft OR put Baas at center?

  31. Mike says:

Faneca is a great guard. NO ONE CAN DENY THAT. and while i would love to have him at age 31 since he is a top guard in nfl. i don’t want to give him a 5 year deal. I’d be ok with a 4 year deal but rumor has it that Jets are willing to outbid everyone for him. ( i don’t have a link on that b/c i read it in 2 new york papers). Also said the jets may be willing to give him 20+ mil guarnteed. thats a bit to much for me for a guard who is 31.. if he was 2 years younger i wouldnt care but age is a huge factor in nfl as players wear down by time they hit early to mid 30’s.
Bruce if you read my posting on one of the other comment sections i stated i wouldn’t mind bruce at all on a 1 year deal. He knows martz system and is a solid nfl player. Has great attitude and can help teach our younger recievers(hill and whoever we draft b/c at some point in draft we will take WR). So I am all for him as well.
Justin Smith again would like to have would be an upgrade and replace douglas who looks like he is going to tampa bay. But at same point i don’t want to over spend and then have no cap room to play with for coming years.
Allen is more then likely going to retire. I’d like to try bass at center he played it in college so it wouldn’t be new to him. And while heitman isn’t an elite center he isn’t garbage either. and a rookie would play alot worse then he does. I think we do draft a tackle and a guard in the draft though. not saying going to be high or low rounds but do think we take a look around at some. I would ideally for oline take snyder and put him in at guard i think he would fit better there and draft a tackle to replace mr glass over there.
Just because we have money doesn’t mean we need to spend it all away either. Keep in mind if we don’t spend it this year we will still have it there next year to help resign or extend some guys on our current roster. and go after some guys next year since its a weak free agent market this year.
All I am basically saying is you are flipping out b/c we aren’t going for the top flight free agents right off the bat. Take a step back and a deep breathe this is only first day of free agency. Relax.

  32. loser says:

im glad we resigned mrob. he is turning out to be a pretty good runner and we can still do the fake punt i like seeing.
