The 49ers did not waste anytime signing players after the start of free agency. Matt Maiocco and ESPN are both reporting that the 49ers have signed quarterback JT O’Sullivan (Lions), DeShaun Foster (Panthers), Dontarrious Thomas (Vikings), and Allen Rossum (Steelers). Granted they are not superstars but they will certainly help in the depth department. The signing of Rossum and Foster pretty much seal the fate of Maurice Hicks.
ESPN is reporting these figures in regards to Foster, O’Sullivan and Thomas. Foster two years, $1.8 million; O’Sullivan one year at the league minimum, plus $40,000 to sign; and Thomas two years.

I don’t understand fully the reason of signing Foster. I get it that he will be a change of pace back, but I thought that would be Robinsons role? A little more time and M-Rob’s gonna be a good back! Don’t get me wrong though, I’ve always liked Foster.
Robinson is more of the third down back. That and can play special teams. Foster is 1000 times > Hicks.

I think we got a steel in dontarious thomas i think he will fit the 3-4 ted postition good.. he is physical and attacks the line… just what we need to free willis this guy can take the lead blocks on plus he is good in coverage not like smith…

As far as the raiders they just made three of the biggest mistakes for their franchise signing that dude kelly for all that money, signing Kwame(TRASH TRUCK JUICE)Harris, and signing him to a big contract I’m getting a big kick out of this lets see those pussy raiders fans shoot at a 49ers helmet now!
I like the signings so far. I wish we could have signed Smiley and gotten rid of Harris AND Jennings some how.
Also, I really think they should try to sign Gibril Wilson as an upgrade over Roman.
Interesting you said something about gibril wilson. I read something stating that the Raiders or 49ers may go after him since he apparently wants to go back to west coast since he grew up in san jose area.
Wouldn’t be against him either while he isn’t elite he’s def an upgrade over what we have in roman.

It appears we are going to be focusing on Smith and Faneca, which suggests we will go WR with the first pick, or maybe Cromartie with the first pick and WR with the second pick? Just my thoughts. I would not be surprised to see us nab Isaac Bruce as well.
I don’t think it guarntees we go WR with first pick. I think it will really depend how the draft falls. Right now almost every mock draft site differs. Once free agency goes on for a little longer draft will have a clearer picture of who could/will be there for our pick. B/c if a top tackle slides to us in first i think we may go oline. But if a top wr slides he could be choice. Even if a top corner slides could go. Way to early to judge who we could go for with 1st pick.

For Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca, free agency isn’t about wining and dining or touring facilities or meeting with other players already on the team.
It’s about getting paid.
And so Faneca won’t be making any visits. Instead, per Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports, Faneca will assess offers from the Jets, Niners, and Rams, and then sign with one of them on Sunday.
He’s expected to receive a deal worth $8 million per year, at a length of four or five years
Yahoo! Sports reports that Pittsburgh Steelers guard Alan Faneca will not be visiting with any teams and will simply decide between several offers that he has received.
The New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers are reportedly in the mix, and Faneca could have a deal signed by Sunday.
He is expected to ink a deal that ranges between four and five years at $32-$40 million.
Adam Schefter of NFL.com is reporting that the Niners have successfully signed Foster. Looks like it’s a done deal.
I say good. A backup like Foster can come in at any time and not miss a beat. Good signing.
I heard on sirius radio that the 9ers were targeting A saftey from nc state with there first pick and in the 2nd go after a reciever. This should mean that we either trade for a wr or we get one through free agency. If this is true i would like this move.
A safety from NC State? DaJuan Morgan? Interesting. They could use help at safety. And, Morgan would probably be there when they pick. And, a decent WR will probably still be available with their second pick, since this WR pool is deep. Still, with as much problems as the Niners have had with their WRs, it feels like anything short of a first-round pick is not addressing the problem enough…
yeah that is intresting but there are also rumors of the 49ers possibly eyeing gibril wilson..if that happens i would think we would look at drafting another position in the draft
i would be happy with faneca, smith or pace, and bryant johnson WR from AZ he is cheaper then berrian and has plenty of potential if given the opportunity to start a full season
Maybe that means that there thinking to trade for a wr. We could get plenty of good recievers in the 2nd and 3rd. I like what the niners are doing on defense. I don’t think that were going to be a top 10 offense so why not have a top 5 defense. The better our defense is the better chance we have of winning more games this year. The 9ners offense is still another year away from being good. I don’t think that were going to be the worst team on offense this year but I would be happy with 15th to 20th on offense and top 5 on defense

I like the Bryant Johnson idea, although is he more of a #2 guy? Can we afford Faneca and Smith with each wanting around $8 million a year?
