Faneca Contacted, Smith to Visit & More

- According to Maiocco, the 49ers are not in the running to sign OLB Calvin Pace or WR Bernard Berrian, but they are going after WR Isaac Bruce
- Allen Rossum has also signed with the 49ers. This was reportedly earlier in the week.
- Justin Smith another free agent linked to 49ers in rumors, is set to meet with the Vikings and 49ers on Friday. His first stop however, will be in San Francisco.
- John Clayton is reporting that the 49ers have contacted Alan Faneca. FOXSports.com has learned that Faneca is receiving strong interest from San Francisco, St. Louis and the New York Jets. Faneca doesn’t plan on making any free-agent visits while mulling impending contract offers but hopes to make a decision between those squads within the next 48 hours. Faneca has said he will not make plans to visit any team until Sunday.
- Bernard Berrian a free agent linked to the 49ers, is being sought after by the Vikings. Latest word is that they have flown a private plane to California to pick up Berrian.
- Justin Smiley has agreed to a five year deal with the Dolphins. And they say the 49ers tampered.
- Kwame Harris jumped the bay and signed with Oakland.

In response to our report that tackle Kwame Harris has agreed to terms with the Raiders, agent Ryan Tollner advised us that there is no deal yet with Oakland.
Tollner says that several teams are interested, and that a deal isn’t expected to be reached before the end of the weekend.

Just as i expected the niners make some loy key signings..the one i like most is dontarrious thomas who is no teddy lehman but i think will do a good job battling with B.Moore for the TED spot..look for a backup DE and perhaps a WR like Bruce to be signed
Why do have a feeling that the niners are gonna try a cover 2 defense for a decent amount of snaps this season? With the signing of thomas and and persuing of J smith who is not 3-4 player but a 4-3 or 4-2 player. Remember the niners ran it a lot towards the end of last season.

I think by them signing Dotarious Thomas they will go with Pace and J. SMith instead of Briggs. I think they shouldn’t let Berrian leave Cali until he’s signed. Foster will give us a 1-2 punch!! Faneca would be great. LT STaley,LG Faneca, C Heitman, RG Snyder, RT Jennnings. That would be awesome. L Allen underachieved big time last year. I say we give Faneca a 4yr deal only 25 mil. You know, even though he won’t be cheap, I actually hope they land Faneca. I mean, we are letting go of both starting guards here, people. Sure, we have Baas, but who will fill the other spot? Faneca would be perfect.
I am also all for the Smith signing, we need a better pass rush. I’m not against Isaac Bruce, but he’s got to come cheap. He might only have one or two years left as a starter, even against our WRs. But, he would be a good person to help other receivers learn the Martz system.

Don’t expect Faneca in a 49ers uni next season. Seems like the Jets are willing to outbid everyone for him. I read one of the papers out here that said the jets may be willing to go up to 20 mill. guarnteed.
He was one of the players while he is older at 31 i really wanted. I really think that Oline will now def be one of our first 2 picks in the draft.
Now as far as people getting pissed off that we haven’t signed these big names out there. You were all warned. They said they weren’t going to make that big of a splash this year that they did last year. Not to mention this years free agent crop isn’t exactly the best there has been. Its very weak in a lot of areas. I would rather save money and be able to spend next year or extend some of our talent then sign someone to an overpriced deal just for the hell of it.
I do hope Justin Smith does sign a deal today before he gets on plane. I think we need more help at NT then end. since i believe sopoaga will be replacing young on line at end. and with mcdonald and oliver on other side. Smith would be a nice player to have and then rotate others in to keep everyone fresh.
But id like rubin for nt. could be there for us in 3rd round in draft.
Anyway though People stop bitchin about not OVERPAYING for top free agents.

if we sign bruce, smith, and faneca i think we still neeed a WR because bruce at this stage in his carrer if more of a mentor and a #2 WR. I hope we go after Roy Williams from DET i like him and think he has shown his ability and a change of scenery could be best for him I’ll offer a 2nd round pick for him what do you guys think??

Johnson from arizona is not a top wr and is usually a fa who will feel the market after top wr are gone to try to get a bigger deal from teams more desperate for help
