Smith’s Mechanics Gone to Hell

Jan 29, 2008 73 Comments by FNN Staff

Earlier this month, Brady Sr. received a call from Douglas Smith, whose son, Alex, was the No. 1 overall pick of the ‘05 draft and became the San Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback shortly thereafter.

“He called and said, ‘Alex has actually had no coaching on fundamentals in three years. His mechanics have gone to hell. You’ve got to get me in touch with Tom Martinez,’ ” Brady Sr. recalls. “I told him that Tom was very sick. I’m hoping that his health will start to improve and that I can make that connection. But he has a long road.”

I just noticed that we do not have a single player on our roster from USC and we only have Drew Olson from UCLA, I guess the Niners do not like good players from USC, which is stupid, they are the best college team. Just don’t draft there Wrs in the first rounds… LOL, everyone from there is beastly that plays any position on defense. The weakness is offense the o-linemen from USC tend to be busts, their WRs are busts, there QBs are still questionable, and even the running backs are only good for special plays or situations in the NFL (Reggie Bush). USC is a place to draft defensive players.

We should wait on drafting another QB.There’s gonna be so many pro type QB’s coming out of college in a couple years.Colt McCoy,Todd Reasing, and Sam Bradford.

  3. Alex says:

I and the rest of the 49er fans think that HILL looks and plays like Steve Young..and he did way better in 2 games that he won than Alex Smiths entire season. So, HILL for QB next season. We need to start thinking BIG and go all the way to Super Bowl. We need some people that could cover HILL good and we need our Receivers to be quick and get open fast to get the ball. We need to make big and exiting plays to motivate the QB and the players and specialy the fans.

  4. Samra says:

Shaun hill will not start at all barring god forbid another smith injury he just doesnt have the arm (a weaker version of Garcia)its disrepectfull to compare him to steve young…Smith will amaze us all next year mark my words…the reason why smith has failed his first few years is that he’s not a west coast QB…the perfect QB for what nolan wants wouldve been Aaron Rodgers not smith who doesnt have the accuracy and consistancy to throw the short passes all day that the west coast offense thrives off of and thats why Shaun hill was so succesfull last season…with martz offense we’ll consistanly air it out and look for bowbs bein thrown and us finally scoring more than 40 tds in a season…

Once this God Damn Superbowl is over there should be more news going on, in fng is going free agency and etc…,this is very boring now, nothing is happening!

    Draft
    WR James Hardy
CB Cromartie or OLB Quentin Groves
DT/NT Athyba Rubin or Tavares Gooden (TED LB)
    WR Will Franklin
    FB Jacob Heater
    DE Kendall Langford
    BPA

  6. P-STATUS says:

Samra you better be right. If Smith tears up(which I hope he does)I will give you props everyday on this site.If not every fan on here gets to kick you in the nuts….with golf shoes on.

  7. P-STATUS says:

And are you even sure Smith will be 100%?

  8. ninersgold says:

Did anybody see the Pats lose the Superbowl… lol No more Joe Montana comparisons and no more dynasty, dynasties do not lose superbowls.

    18-1 won superbowl NINERS
    18-1 lost superbowl PATS

What ever happend to patriots190 the ass hole who kept saying…
    “TEDDY BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU” and also …
“19-0 SUPERBOWL BABY” well not anymore! Thank the Giants, now Montana is still the best SB QB of all time, and we won’t have to argue about it.

  9. yungjoe415 says:

yea the pats dynasty just got ruined forever in about 1 minute or however it took young eli to drive down the field and they were gonna try to compare this team to the 89 niners LOLOLOL

  10. Rob says:

I think the funniest part of the Superbowl was when Bellichek left the field when there was still :01 left on the clock. 16-0 doesn’t look so important now, does it? Ha!

While it was great that the Pats lost, I don’t know if it’s totally true that dynasties don’t lose Superbowls. I know, the Niners didn’t lose any, but didn’t the Steelers of the 70’s lose one or two during their run?

  11. patriots190 says:

    TEDDY BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

    18-1 SUPER BOWL BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!

We still dont have as many super bowl wins as the Niners and our near perfect season now means nothing because we choked when it mattered most.

Not to mention the Giants D raped Tom Brady… LMFAO.

  12. Chris says:

    ^^^^
    haha…. teddy bruuuuuuu… that dude’s a joke

  13. Zack says:

Im not predicting any draft picks till free agentcy ends and i see if we trade any picks.hahahah i think its funny how when tiki barber retires the GIANTS win the superbowl

  14. ninersgold says:

Tiki was holding the Giants back. He wasn’t a team player, they were a lot better with out him. Good thing is we don’t have anybody like that, because of the way McNolan drafts, they draft team players, not diseases like Tiki Barber and a Terrel Owens type. That i GIVE Nolan credit for. We won’t have to worry about having an ass that will ruin our team.

James Hardy has a good chance of falling to us in the second round, that is right now, we still need to see what happens in the combine, but this is the new WR rankings from scout.com, previously Hardy was number 1, now he has fallen down to number 10 WR. Franklin is still in the middle at 21 best WR

  16. PrimeTime says:

    James Hardy for President?

  17. Frankthetank says:

So i know this is a total pipe dream, but how sweat would next years roster be if it was like this…..

    DE- Jared Allen (sign)
    DE- Marques Douglas
    DT- Shaun Rodgers (sign)
    OLB- Manny Lawson
    OLB- Terrel Suggs (Sign)
    ILB- Patrick Willis
    ILB- Lance Briggs (Sign)
    SS- Micheal Lewis
    FS- Gibril Wilson (Sign)
    CB- Nate Clements
    CB- Walt Harris
    CB3- Dominque Rodgers Cromartie (Draft)

    Offense

QB- Alex Smith maybe Derek Anderson (Sign)
    FB- Jacob Hester (Draft)
    RB- Frank Gore
    TE- Vernon Davis
    WR- Roy Williams (Trade)
    WR2- Bernard Berrian (Sign)
    LT- Joe Staley
    LG- Alan Faneca (Sign)
    C- Eric Heitman
    RG- David Bass
    RT- Adam Snyder

Draft- Cromatie-1st round Trade for Roy Williams- 2nd round, OL- third round, Jacob hester or Will franklin – Fourth Round

…I know this is a dream but it would be amazing and all the players are atleast semi avalible

  18. Frankthetank says:

    Sweet*

  19. ninersgold says:

That would be ridiculous, our team would be stacked, Jacob Hester should be a fifth round pick, don’t worry about that. Franklin could go either 4th or fifth. LOL if we had that off season our team would go to the Superbowl, or at least be a Championship calibur team. There is… 0% chance of all of that happening, Nolan doesn’t like Suggs, because he isn’t a team player, Shaun Rogers would be great, if we could get him in shape, but we would have to trade a high draft pick for him, the Lions will not release him. Is Gibril Wilson even a free agent?, he is one of the best FS in the league. Cromartie is a stud, I have a feeling he won’t fall to us, after the combine especially. Briggs is a possibility. Berrian is also a good possibility. It would be amazing to get Cromartie or Asante Samuel, but Samuel is short, Cromartie could have 10 ints a year, if he is used correctly, he is really tall 6′2″, has 4.3-4.4 speed, and we saw that he can tackle in the Senior Bowl.
Right now draft picks are more important than trades. Roy Williams is a good WR, but he has doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut syndrome. I think Nolan should go crazy in this draft, and should make a lot of trades, so we could get like three second rounders. We would have to trade a lot of next years picks though, but he wants to save his job, and if he wants to be good right away, I could see him make crazy moves and do anything to keep his job.

1st round Cromartie CB Watch the Senior Bowl, we prob won’t get him
2nd round Hardy WR 6′7″ and speed mix of Plaxico Burres and Moss
2nd round Groves OLB he has the 4.4 speed to get to a QB fast
2nd round Gooden ILB (TED) next to Willis, perfect size
3rd round Rubin NT 6′3″ 315 pounds, perfect size, short and stout
4th round Franklin WR Has potential to be great, 6′2″ size 4.3speed
5th round Hester FB Norris missed blocks/ he can do many things
6th round Langford DE he is 6′6″size for 3-4 DE, and he makes plays
7th round BPA any posistion, maybe FS/SS or even HB or QB

Now that would be amazing, and it ain’t going to happen. (probaly)

  20. ninersgold says:

Hey everybody, we signed Hill to a three year deal worth 2 mil per year, and it has incentives if he does win the QB job.

Three years 6 million dollars. If he isn’t our starter he is a waste of cap now, but not too much cap.

  21. RobBase says:

Niners are going to acquire Roy Williams.

  22. Byron Leftwich says:

We need Byron Leftwich as QB, fit and available for the whole season.

    WE
    ARE
    ..MARSHALL!

  23. ninerfaithful says:

the niners need o line d line help we need a WR overhaul we need to trade jackson battle for later picks to help us with the line issues.. we draft a couple of bad ass recievers give Jason Hill a shot mix in a lb or two we have a playoff bound team
