Nolan to Stay
You read that right, Mike Nolan will return to coach the 49ers for the 2008 season. All reports, except for confirmation from the 49ers, are pointing to Nolan donning his suit on the sidelines for another year. Well maybe not a full year, but he’ll be there to start the season. If he finishes out the year is another story. The only difference this season will be that Nolan no longer has the final say in matters. He is simply to be the head coach. His decision making will now fall into the hands of soon to be GM Scot McCloughan.
Not sure what the Yorks were thinking in giving Nolan another year. Last time I checked 16-32 wasn’t a good thing, but hey who gives a crap if he can coach at least he made GQ’s best dressed list.
Here’s to another year of suckitude…

Don't miss any of the action this year at the SBG Global
Two…Hostler has been demoted/fired/shitcanned. Not sure on the exact wording but he is no longer OC. That is official.
Everyone needs to relax. Yes, Nolan should be gone, but who are you going to replace him with this year?? Next year Cowher and Holgrem are free to sign with whomever. I also this Mike Cameron would be a better fit for us than Martz. We need a new OL,QB,WR coach Sullivan is this guru who the fuck has he developed?? Don’t tell me Fitz and Boldin they would of been stars no matter where they would of went. Just like Singeltary, he gets too much props for P-52. Willis did exactly what he did in college no secret there. How about B.Moore and TBC I thought Singeltary said he was going to have 10 sacks!!! Exactly my point. Overrated!!
Good, good, good….now niner pundit….I must ask you…do you think there is a shadows chance in hell that we land Cam Cameron? Also, in reference to what Big M was talking about yesterday, WHY AREN’T THE NINERS on the ringer trying to hire that OC from KC who just got canned? He would make a killer o line coach…the one we have IS JUST NOT CUTTING IT!!
I agree with Pintor98, and I am sure so does everyone else…..TBC is NOT WORTH HIS CONTRACT. Bring in Briggs OR we can go after Crable in the draft. Since Maheluga is PROBABLY going to enter the draft Crable might drop to our second pick. The question IS who else will also be available with that pick. IF by some strange reason Maheluga is available then we HAVE TO DRAFT HIM. TBC is TRASH!! Unless Otah is available for our first pick WE HAVE TO GET A WR. However, the second pick is really key. I wouldn’t mind McCloughan doing some more trickery as long as it doesn’t involve any more first round picks.
Ryan…just heard about Solari as well. He has ties to the organization was an asst under McKittrick. If it were me I would have already fired Warhop and have Solari on a plane to SF. Thing that might be holding some stuff up is the new OC. The new OC may be one who wants some say in who stays/goes. Hopefully not and that all rests on Scotty M’s shoulders.
In regards to Cameron right now no. He still has a job. Supposedly he and Parcells are close. Maybe he gets another year, but I don’t think a decision will be made in Miami until a new GM is brought in. And are the 49ers really ready to wait to see what happens to Cameron. That is a tough call, but they would have to throw some serious cash his way to bring him to SF.
fuck the Yorks, Nolan is a looser and the 49ers will once again be 5-10 or even 1-14 next year. And top that we will loose a good assit head coach. FUCK
http://www.profootballtalk.com is saying that Parcells is REALLY close to hiring Ireland as their GM….maybe it won’t take that long. Cameron would solve a lot of problems because the niners clearly have no one on their staff that knows ANYTHING about offense.
Ryan of course it’s just rumors but ESPN has a link talking Martz and they cite in that report SF are the front-runners to land Martz…so who knows.
calm down we wont be 1-14 nolan will start HC but might not stay long if things dont improve i say keep nolan no that he can concetrate on only HCing and get rid of Alex Smith hes a bust dont have the guts for it yeah the OC sucked but look how Shaun Hill played thats who we need to lead us come on takes a hard hit to the ribs comes back the play after with a TD pass! Smiths a bust, and the only reason we did ok last season wasnt cause of smith we lucked out with gore.
no*now
Mike Martz has been fired. One down one to go…(CAM CAMERON) We should look for a WR in the first round (JAMES HARDY), an offensive tackle in the second round, (Gosder Cherilius), Get an offensive guard in the third round (Roy Schueing, a BIG defensive tackle in the fourth round. Look for a guy who is 6′5″ to 6′7″ and 320-360 pounds. Get another offensive guard in the fifth round. (Andrew Bain). Draft best available players in sixth and seventh rounds(it would be nice to get a fast slot reciever/ more defensive linemen would be nice)
Oh Jeff Ireland just got Hired by the Dolpins. The good news keeps coming! C’Mon Cam Cameron get Fired already!
Cam cameron would be an awful choice at OC. its known that he is a religious fanatic, which would be detrimental to the team
i like nolan defence but we don,t have a first round pick thanks mike i woud love to marty as a head coach we need a wr via free agentcy and get a tall fast stroug corner back
the presser is going on right now heres what i have:
“An afternoon press conference on Wednesday has just begun.
Team owner John York announced that Head Coach Mike Nolan will be retained for 2008 and that Vice President of Player Personnel Scot McCloughan has been promoted to General Manager.
Nolan also announced that offensive coordinator Jim Hostler has been let go.
Nolan said he does have candidates for the position but would not reveal those names at this time. He also said that decisions on his coaching staff remain his, and not McCloughan’s.
McCloughan said quarterback Alex Smith will be in competition next year for the starting position. As to who he’ll be in competition with – could be Trent Dilfer, Shaun Hill (unrestricted free agent), and could be a player out of the draft.
Stay tuned for more updates.”
Ok so now the question is ufa who could that be I hope Derek Anderson and the draft pick maybe colt brennan
“I will remain the one voice of this orgnaizationi and the face,” said Nolan. “I will not have the trigger on the personnel changes. It’s as simple as this. If there’s a disagreement on players and we could not come together, Scot will make that decision when it comes to personnel.. When it comes to the coaching staff, those are still my decisions.”
McCloughan however, said that through the direction of ownership, he does have the decision making power when it comes to the hiring or firing of the head coach in the future.
SOUNDS LIKE A POWER STRUGGLE ALREADY
If we get Lance Briggs Nolan’s defense would be a lot better. The weaknesess of his defense is the defensive line (i forgot that a lot of starters on the d line were injured this year), Tully Banta Cain, and Derek Smith. Briggs would replace Smith, who misess tackles like crazy, and he would be a stud with Willis right next to him. The only good corner that will probally be available next season is Asante Samuel, and maybe Nnamdi Asomugha. Asomugha is 6′2″, and he is one of the best and youngest corners in the NFL. We should try to get him, but he will probally be franchised tag. His hometown is in LA, California. maybe he will be like Lance Briggs and come here because his home is nearby, plus he will be with a better team. We are way better than the Raiders. He won’t have to move far from oakland to San Fran. San fran is closer (not by much) to LA, and he may be interested. Pray he doesn’t go to San Diego, because that is very close to LA. We could use a corner like him. We would have the middle linebacker tandem and the cornerback tandem. nobody wants to run into our linebackers nobody will want to pass against our corners, if we get Asomugha.I want to build our defense before our offense, because our offense is so off track right now perfect the defense and then fix the offense with the offensive coordiantor. (please Cam Cameron)
Colt Brennan, he could be a bust, unless he has an offensive line. Did you see him in the SUGAR BOWl. He got SHUT DOWN, and he got sacked 8 times. 11 knockdowns 16 hurries 2 interceptions. He got taken out early too. I like Joe Flacco from DELAWARE, he played behind a shitty line and recivers that had Darrel Jackson hands, and he still put up BIG numbers, aqnd he is mobile and has a HUGE arm strength. The perfect fit. We have the same problems. Crappy offensive line and crappy recievers. he could still put up big numbers with us too. He is a Ben Roethlisburger that doesn’t get injured. Literally.
So, they are definitely sticking with Nolan now. Great. I mean, it’s true that some coaches just aren’t cut out to be a coach/GM in one. So, maybe things will get better with this change. But, I think that Nolan will be mediocre at best and will end up getting fired by McCloughlan anyway. But, I think he will be a good GM. He has made solid personnel decisions so far so I think he will do a good job. Plus, maybe Nolan will be a better coach without all the power he has now. As far as the QB next year goes, I say we do what it takes to bring Hill back, then pull a Tampa Bay and stockpile QBs. Maybe a free agent acquisition and a high to mid round pick. Let them all duke it out for the starter next year.
