  1. Indiana Jim says:

Not only do I agree about Smith, but I believe this will be Lelie's year. He sat around last season underused, but this season coming will be the one where it all gels.

  2. P-STATUS says:

Alex Smith is not the Answer.I mean he might win a few games for us here and there, but he will probably never take us to a superbowl.I'm not saying Hill is the answer but Smith is certainly not.

  3. Ryan the 1st says:

Also, I am not meaning to be the bad guy here, but I almost guarantee that Martz STILL SIDES with Alex Smith by the end of training camp. We REALLY need to start wrapping things up with our players that we want so they don't test free agency. Did you see what a blunder they did with the Smiley situation? I am not saying he is a stud, but we could have signed him to much less and Smiley wasn't even asking for a lot ORIGINALLY, but they let it go to the free agent market.

  4. ninersgold says:

Of course he is more athletic than manning lol, the mannings can't move. Unfortunately Alex Smith has had OCs come and go and Eli Manning has had the same coordinator for every year. Eli also has an offensive line and a huge WR that is hard to miss, and a veteran WR. Sounds like Amani Toomer and Plaxico Buress. Also sounds like Arnaz Battle and James Hardy lol. If Martz stays for more than a year hopefully even more than two years, than I think Alex Smith will definetly look like a great QB. Especially with Martz, he made Kurt Warner off of the arena league have a superbowl, made Marc Bulger into a star, made Jon Kitna look like he is a good QB.

Key to defense that we need:

DT Shaun Rogers, if we get him, and he plays like he is able to play like he is supposed to we have one of the best Defenses, period. That guy man handles double teams, we need him, badly. We would have so much pressure if we could draft a tweener DE to OLB tha is a stud, get Lance Briggs, and the big part Shaun Rogers, our linebackers would come freely, and with their speed Willis,Lawson, draft pick, the opposing Qb will have 2 seconds to find a reciever before he is smashed, much like our own Alex Smith, into the ground on his shoulder seperating it and ruining their season. Could you imagine, Shaun Rogers all 340-360 pounds of him falling right on to a QB, that guy would get paralyzed. (I don't want to purposely injure players, just saying that is what would happen, if you don't double team Rogers.

  5. Ryan the 1st says:

Shaun Rogers takes MANY plays off. He is the defensive lineman version of Mr. Glass. COULD HE BE A FORCE….yes….but who knows when he will want to play and when HE WILL ACTUALLY PLAY WITH SOME FIRE. THERE IS a reason why the Lions don't want him. I just don't think he is worth the cap space. Get Soap back….he NEVER takes plays off. The niners need consistency not the "I play when I wanna play!" approach!! Mark my words,I am not sure who SHOULD START at the beginning of year, but I am telling you it WILL BE ALEX SMITH!

  6. Ryan the 1st says:

Plus, the bee was reporting that the niners and Shaun Hill have already agreed on the structure of the contract, it is just a matter of how much he could earn. Can we also please put to rest these notions of getting a third string QB with a first day pick?

  7. ninersgold says:

That video is very interesting, and it makes me excited to see Alex Smith play next year, I don’t think Shaun Hill will win the QB job, I think if Alex spends time learning the playbook and working with Martz, expect to see a different, more accurate, more efficent, quiker release, and stronger release from Alex Smith. Since Alex Smith is supposed to be smart, I could see him learn this complicated playbook. Shaun Hill had his own offense when he was in, an offense that was better suited for the team, since 5 step drops weren’t working, Hill’s passes make him look like god, compared to what we have seen all year. I think we are a little bit to excited over Hill, even I though Hill was the answer, but he is a short term answer. Smith has the talent, and Mike Martz is known for bringing the best out of average players, making them look very good.

Key off season pickups that we should get
    Shaun Rogers 3-4 DT
    Lance Briggs 3-4 MLB

    Optional pick ups
Bernard Berrian WR (Martz could bring the best out of him too)

  8. Colt Brennan AKA Alex Smith2 says:

Ninersgold are we even sure that Alex will be a 100% this off-season?

  9. ninersgold says:

Alright whatever we will see what happens, and I have said before that it depends on his injury, whether or not he will “mature”. P-STATUS, how do you know maybe Smith will surpise us, not this year, but right now the goal is to win games, than work for the superbowl. Look at Eli, I bet you that people just like you that are Giants fans, didn’t think Eli Manning would ever get to go to the Superbowl. You never know, I guess you need to wait and find out.

  10. Ryan the 1st says:

http://www.si.com has a mock draft that says we get Keith Rivers…..I am not against Hardy, but my choice is Carl Nicks and ninersgold can vouch that I am the first person to put their signature next to that name. However, WE CAN’T GO WRONG WITH HARDY…..Kiper says we are going to get Hardy as well.

  11. Ryan the 1st says:

After that his price went up. IF it weren’t for that injury he would be virtually unattainable. I am just REALLY unsure if we should sign him because who knows what he is asking for now. I guarantee you Smiley waits until the free agency period. We might get Soap and Shaun Hill…..maybe Douglas, but I still think Douglas is going to the free agent market.

  12. Ryan the 1st says:

Lastly, you will all hate me for this, but I think Alex Smith is WAY MORE athletically talented than Eli Manning.

  13. MSouza says:

I completely agree with Ryan. Alex Smith is more athletically talented, he just needs time. Unlike Leinhart, who still looks like shit, Manning, Palmer, and other young guns, he came from an offense that just doesn’t translate at all to the pro level. Watch the same thing will happen to Tim Tebow coming out of that Urban Meyer system. He will be high draft pick next year or the following and take four or five years to turn into anything reliable. I’m not saying that Tebow is bad, just like I think that Smith hasn’t even come close to playing like he can, I just think that the funny college offenses really hold quarterbacks back at the next level.

Even if Smith isn’t the starter next year, which may do him some good to spend some time with a clipboard in his hand, I honestly think he is still the quarterback of the future, and Martz will take him under his wing as his little side project. A lot like he has done with Brennan in the senior bowl practices. He is getting the most attention out of the three and he is playing the worst. Martz sees potential and doesn’t stop until is reached.

  14. Mike says:

Don’t think we need to worry about martz leaving us like turner did. No one even mentioned his name as HC possiblity even with all the openings that came up. So i think he’s here for atleast the 2 years thats on his deal.
If you look at some more video from senior bowl on nfl.com. you’ll see they say and interesting thing about Royal WR from Va. Tech. That he is good with his cuts and routes and has speed and would be perfect for a slot spot in martz system plus he was a good punt returner in college. Just an interesting fact that was put out there by analysts. What’s everyone think on that. My thoughts are he has impressed this week in practice but unless he falls to mid 2nd day i don’t do it there’s just more talent on board at wr earlier in draft. But curious what others think

  15. xaos50 says:

PSSH Alex Smith is more athletic, but too bad he’s inaccurate, and panics in the pocket, and has happy feet, and doesnt know how to step up in the pocket, and his teammates hate him i’m sure.

  16. Mike says:

Most analysts out there believe that we will draft a qb with one of our picks. Not saying it has to be a first day pick but at some point in draft i’m thinking more realistically like 5th or 6th round just take flyer on someone. But Hill is not a starting qb in the league. I think to many people are jumping on the bandwagon to fast. Hill is a good/decent backup but average to below average starter. There is a reason why he hasn’t been given a chance in the 5-6 years he’s been playing pro ball. In fact there was rumors before the season even started that he may have been cut in favor of an undrafted rookie. Does everyone remember that?…

I do think we may draft a qb with one of our picks though just to push the competition. and who knows Brady was a 6th round pick. Warner was never drafted. Could strike gold never know anymore Draft is so unpredictable. But just feel that either 5th,6th or 7th round we take a chance on a qb.

  17. NinerPundit says:

CBakaAS….Marvin can say they will not be trading Johnson all he wants. Remember Nolan said he wouldn't trade Barlow. Not saying Johnson will be traded but never believe anything a coach says.

  18. ninersfan says:

Now where can I find information regarding 49ers having interest in Shaun Rogers?

  19. Medford says:

Ryan the 1st what does Eli Manning have that Alex Smith has never had? Answer a big WR that catches the ball if we had Plexico we might have seen better things from Smith then we did.

  20. sf49ers says:

Shaun rogers is one drug test away from being gone for yr..so it is a lil risky

  21. Rob says:

I don't know why everyone wants Chad Johnson so bad. Hey, let's just bring T.O. back while we are at it. Johnson is a punk, and is heading into the downside of his career. If the Bengals are considering trading him, there is a reason for it. If we would trade for him (and I don't see that happening), he would be a stop-gap solution at best. And, I really don't see Nolan liking him very much. And, we saw with Lelie what happens to decent receivers that Nolan doesn't like. Johnson would be a waste of salary cap space. We need to focus on bringing in Berrian (who I think has breakout potential in Martz's offense) and getting a good receiver in the first round.

  22. yungjoe415 says:

free agency-lance briggs, ocho cinco, and a good DT

  23. Colt Brennan AKA Alex Smith2 says:

why do you guys keep saying Chad Johnson!!!Marvin Lewis pubicly stated that they will not be trading him….Like two weeks ago.

  24. P-STATUS says:

you have a good point there Gold.I remember last year when everyone ripped on Eli for throwing off his back foot and stuff like that.I just dont think Alex Smith should be the starter next year because he probably wont be 100%

  25. Ryan the 1st says:

I know Medford, this is something that REALLY points to us getting Hardy because (as ninersgold said) he is a red zone killer. We haven’t had one of those in a LONG LONG TIME. The midgets are hard to throw to…give Alex a big target. And yes, we should put the ocho cinco talk to rest….after Marvin Lewis said that I considered it a dead issue. Plus, I don’t think he and Nolan would work together very well because of his STUPID theatrics. He is good, even great, but his need for attention and to cause distractions on the field are too much.

  26. ninersgold says:

Did you guys know Roy Williams is 6'4"? I thought he was short, so the Lions had two really tall recievers in Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams, they didn't look bad in Martz's offense, I think it doesn't matter how tall our reciever is, it is if they are fast enough, Hardy looks fast enough, but we still don't know.

  27. ninerfaithful4ever says:

Fuck ocho denero or what ever that gold toof loud mouth is we do not need another T.O. HE IS A CANCER …. dont get me wrong he is a big play maker but i would so rather have Roy Williams that Chad anyday…. cut enough about that lets talk some 49ers football we need a pass rusher we need WR we need a replacement for Derek Smith
we need some depth at safty there alot to do in this draft….

  28. angelo1 says:

i think theres nothing wrong with alex smith as our QB. he just dont have fast enough recievers to throw the ball to and also we need a better line

  29. Medford says:

Ninersgold I heard the Lions might think about trading Roy Williams and they would want a 2nd round pick for him. I would pull the trigger on that deal real fast. Look at the Seacocks they traded a 1st round pick for Deion Branch. I think Roy Williams is much better than Branch. If we dont get Hardy in the draft then the Niners should really think about that trade.

  31. Ryan the 1st says:

Yeah, Branch was traded for a first rounder, but I don’t of many receivers that I would want the NINERS to do that with. Branch became ANOTHER INJURY PRONE RECEIVER when he went to Seattle. Roy Williams is better NOW than Branch is, but a second rounder for a player that already has been given a pay day and has no real allegiance the franchise is a dangerous move. Plus, with his mouth that he likes vent to the media every once in a while it could become a distraction. IF we get him, great, but don’t be surprised if he becomes a little bit of a pain in the ass.

  32. P-STATUS says:

If we traded for R.Williams do you guys think we will still go after berrian in the FA.Can you imagine Berrian,Williams,Battle and that one cat that Ninersgold mentioned from Mizzou who wants to be a niner.

  33. P-STATUS says:

Should we go D-line or O-line with our first pick?Oh and what do you guys think about that Cromartie kid from a D-2 school?Nolan seems to take a shine to him.

  34. P-STATUS says:

When Chuck Norris does a push-up he doesn’t push himself up he pushes the world down…..The only reason he pushes the world down is because Patrick Willis is standing on his back.

  35. ninersgold says:

Or how about James Hardy, Berrian, Battle and Mizzouri Will Franklin. ( http://www.gametap.com/home/read/article/2840 ) I have posted this before so if you have already seen it don’t bother, it’s about Will Franklin, he will be a 4th to 5th round pick, and he is a senior.

  36. ninersgold says:

    I got this from http://www.profootballweekly.comv...

After previously indicating that they didn’t think Bears free-agent OLB Lance Briggs was being seriously considered by the Niners, our sources in San Francisco are now hearing that the team actually could be interested in Briggs, but as an inside linebacker replacing the aging Derek Smith.

After losing one of his biggest advocates in recently fired Niners RB coach Bishop Harris, team insiders have been wondering what the future has in store for unrestricted free-agent RB Maurice Hicks. The consensus seems to be that Hicks’ excellent receiving ability out of the backfield will appeal to new offensive coordinator Mike Martz and that he has a better-than-even chance of being re-signed.

  37. ninersgold says:

This is kind of funny, I think they need to update this…
    http://profootballexperts.scout.com/2/709182.html

After the senior bowl practices and the game Bowman has really shown that he sucks. He has no hands, we need someone who can cacth any of Alex Smith's throws. A high percent of Alex Smith's throws were dropped last season, if his recivers didn't drop the ball, than ALex would have had a high completion percentage. He had a 48.7 completion percentage, add back the 20 %and he has a pro QB completion percentage. Check this out…

  39. ninersgold says:

Look at this, we need soemone who can catch the ball badly, James Hardy or Lavelle Hawkins, they have hands at least. Our Qbs are suffering the most from dropped passes…

    http://profootballexperts.scout.com/2/687001.html

  40. Ryan the 1st says:

I agree that after the senior bowl that Bowman looks a lot like Rashaun Woods. We should leave him be and either go after Lavell Hawkins as you have said or possibly Arrington….he has good size. I really don't want Doucet, Sweed, Bowman, or Desean Jackson. Desean Jackson would be my choice of those four…..however, I really wish Malcolm Kelly would fall to us. If not there hopefully will be Hardy. Why not take him?

  41. ninerswillcome says:

20.1% passes dropped, all we need is somebody who can catch the GODDAMN BALL! I like Lavelle Hawkins alot, I think he can catch the ball, but if we need someone who can cacth the ball, that is what big possesion recievers are for, right? Hardy or Kelley would be great for that. According to a couple of draft websites I read Hardy has the best hands in this class of recievers. He couldn't hurt.
