Strange Days

Going into this season, the San Francisco 49ers were pegged as division favorites. All seemed well. Quarterback Alex Smith finally showed evidence he’s capable of leading an offense. Tight end Vernon Davis stepped up as a leader as well as one of the best at his position. The defense looked dominant [...]

The 49ers seemed to be like Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde last season. In this case, Jekyll is desireable while Mr.Hyde is as always self-destructive.
The O-Line Gains 654 lbs.

After allowing the league-worst 150 sacks over the past three seasons, the San Francisco 49ers finally addressed their biggest need.

oh… it’s still the funniest shit i have ever seen, what do I type in to look it up?

EXACTLY at least we won’t be 32 in pass anymore and our running may seem to be in danger, but Mike Martz is not stupid enough to not use our star player. He will be used a lot like Marshall Faulk. he doesn’t look like Faulk, but damn does he play. Gore is an all around type back, he catches ball, he can run to the inside/outside. He can do anything. Oh and if i remember corectly Faulk ran for over 1,000 yards and had over a thousand recieveing yard expect 1400-1500 rush yards from gore and 500-800 recieving yards.
Thank You AM, that is pretty good, it just needs a good singer.
smith will have an advantage with martz because back in his utah days he played in the shotgun…
mike nolan rap, and Staxxx it would have been funnier if you said something like Going from Star Jones to Hally Barry.
Oh that’s if this offense becomes sucessful and our offensive line takes some steroids.
Faulk’s number (prime of his career) with Martz (1st three years)
1999 Rush: 1381 TD:7 Receiving: 1048 TD: 5
2000 Rush: 1359 TD:18 Receiving: 830 TD: 8
2001 Rush: 1382 TD:12 Receiving: 765 TD: 9
Gore the past two years
2006 Rush: 1695 TD:8 Receiving: 485 TD: 1
2007 Rush: 1102 TD:5 Receiving: 436 TD: 1
Martz can only be good for Gore
Ninersgold – I’m a Boise State Alumni and I have seen Colt play for the past three seasons. He flushered in a gimmicky offense, same as Smith. Please do not wish that turd on us.
Hill is similar in style to Bulger or Warner (with better mobility) and could run Martz’s offense much better then a one read, stare down the receiver Colt. Don’t be fooled by the numbers, he played a majority of his games against a week WAC conference.
“Martz’s offensive philosophy, focusing on his ideal that “this is a game of speed and attitude,” not only exists in passing the football, but also emphasizes the running game as a vital element to offensive production. As offensive coordinator of the Rams, Martz’s rushing attack ranked second in the league with a 4.8 yards-per-rush average, and RB Marshall Faulk finished the year ranked fifth in the league with 1,381 yards and had the best yards-per-rush average (5.5). Between 1998 and 1999, the Rams went from 86.6 rushing yards-per-game average to 128.7, and rushing average of 3.5 to 4.8. ”
From http://www.sf49ers.com
Don’t worry about GORE. He migh actually get even better than ever. I’m rooting for Hill to be our QB of the “now” not the “future” (Alex Smith). With Martz, Shaun Hill will be able to release the ball faster and more accurate than he already does. I can’t wait for the off-season. “The Greatest SHow on the Turf”
Mike Martz is a beast. According to Nolan and his conversation with Martz, Martz is going to UTILIZE the offensive personnel (For the first Time!), and he is going to use everyone on this team to the best of their abilities. He said he might use Gore as Marshaul Faulk. Mike Martz can TURN average players into stars. He can turn good players into hall of famers (Marshaul Faulk is definielty going to go). The reason why the Lions use 4 wr sets and more, is because that was the best way to use the talent they had. They drafted WRs in the first round for the past 5 years! A lot of them were busts, but still that is where their talent was. Our talent is the ground game. The Rams with Warner had a mix of both, good running game and pass. Gore WILL be used. Oh and thank god…. Nolan said that he will not make the descsion on who the QB will be,that will be up to Mike Martz. He is one of the best at evaluating QBs, so don’t worry about the wrong “Nolan” descisons, look foward to one of the best offenses in the league. Of course now we will need to go get more defensive players (Briggs), becuase our defense will need to be more improved as well. Martz, almost automatically fixes this offense. Nolan will pretty much be a D coordinator and Martz will be of course the Offensive coordinator. Oh and i have good news. looks like Mike Singletary won’t be leaving us! Nobdy is looking at him anymore, because he doesn’t have any head coaching experience. Good for us anyways! If we do get Briggs than he will become even better under Singletary.
P.S.
I’m not saying we don’t need to get more offensive players, we do, LOL! , I’m just saying Mike Martz is very good at almost “instantly” making teams better on offense. I trust Scott and nOlan to have another good Draft year and at least one good free agent pick up. (Please get Lance Briggs)
How can people bitch that we don’t have the personell to run his offense? Has Martz ever had a good tight end and not used him? No. Just cause his offensive schemes were based around having great receivers doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have the ability to adjust a fast tight end. And maybe having a guy receiver based might actually help guys like Jackson do what they did in decent passing attacks previously.
I see Gore being the next Marshall Falk. How quickly has everyone here forgot that he was the leader in all purpose yards under Martz.
big mistake. big mistake. his teams consistently rank last in run offense. we don’t have the players to run his offense. combine that with the fact that i hear he’s a total prick; i really don’t get this move.
People are dumb. Martz is a genious and was a good decision. Period.
Now we REALLY need to be calling Cincy….Lelie, Chad Johnson, and DJAX (if he gets cured of those stone hands)….that would be savage. I agree with the “going from a fat and ugly chick to a girl who is pretty cute”. Cameron clearly didn’t want to come to SF or he would have at least let Nolan schedule a meeting this week. Nolan said he was on the list. I HIGHLY doubt that Nolan just said, “Hey, you know what? SCREW that guy Cam Cameron….I changed my mind…he’s an idiot!” The niners need a NUMBER ONE RECEIVER AND A LINE. Time to McNolan to start making some moves. Don’t forget to fire Warhop, Nolan…..and see if Steve Young would be interested in being our QB coach.
whats with this chad johnson thing? and who the fuck would we trade for him anyways?
and ryan, you are forgetting arnaz battle who is worlds better than djax.
Wendell… you don’t have a clue. Martz makes the defense based on a certain player or players. He even said that the offense will not be the same as st. louis, it will be built a round Gore, and he will be used like Marshall faulk, he siad it himself. He also said th Qb that is more accurate and can get the most completions is the most important QB we need. (Shaun Hill all over that sentence) The lions offense was based on recievers so they used them. With st. loius he had the top 5 passing and rushing for 5 seasons in a row. Not just passing. This team will be all Gore and quick fast completions. Martz said he is impressed with this offensive linemen especially Joe Staley (He loves Staley) he thinks this offensive line has more potential. He said that this team is much farther along than Detroit, and he will be able to use our team even better than the personnel he had with the Lions. The Lions didn’t have a bad season passing wise. Of course their offense is different than what our offense is going to be. I can see us with a minimum of 9 wins. Martz already knows the NFC West, so we should be able to sweep them that woul be 6 wins, then we can beat Miami,Buffalo, and the Jets. Thats 9 right there. It is very possible. Besides we should be able to beat the redskins and the Lions, plus look foward to a couple of upsets.
I meant offense, my bad.
where are you getting this ninersgold, i think you pulled all of that out of your ass.
are you like having sex with martz or nolan or something because you couldnt know this much otherwise…
AM… Lol, wow now that is sick, I do not have sex with 50 year old men. I got this information from Barrows and I listend to their conference at the niners homepage, you can too…
http://www.sf49ers.com
It is a thing called TV 49. Its hard to hear, but Barrows and maiocco both have some quotes from the conference too.

Battle works harder AM, but he is NO WHERE NEAR AS TALENTED!!!! As for the Chad Johnson thing, it started on Sirius Radio during an interview….he sounded like he wasn’t happy and even http://www.profootballtalk.com was reporting that he is really not happy with Cincy and that he sounds like he is ready to move on. Based on what I heard on Sirius radio….I’d have to agree with them. He was definitely talking like he had no problems talking about him not being with the Bengals next year. As for who we would trade for him….no one. What we would trade for him….it would probably take a second round draft pick.
Hey Wendell, since when did one year become consistently.
Other teams have a better chance of gettin Chad Johnson than we do. A second round pick is really low for him, unless the Bengals are that desperate and don’t think he is useful and think he is a liability. I doubt we can get him. Besides we need the draft picks to get the young talent. Chad Jonhson is a lot like Terrel Owens, when he gets upset, when he’s happy everybody loves the guy. He would be nice, but he is worth more than a second round pick. The Bengals would have to become retarted like the raiders and trade a randy moss for a 4th rounder, but that is because they were desperate, and Randy moss was being a little bitch on the side line with them. Besides Ocho Cinco we already have Ocho cinco. That would be a weird fight rigt there. Vernon Davis and Chad Johnson over the number 85 jersey. Would that work out?
The Duke would put his cleats through Ocho-Cinco’s gold fronts for that number. Chad knows better.
Eww…. Warhop was retained as offensive line coach.
But at least the o-line assistant and running backs coaches were fired
I think we should be ok.
Warhop made our big boys look lost out there.
thanks ninersgold. i appologize and it would be nice to just say where you got your info from. it just legitimizes what you said as a fact, not your opinion.
About Mike’s philosophy and vacant offensive coaching positions:
http://49ers.com/pressbox/news_detail.php?PRKey=3924
Im happy with the Martz hire atleast we wont be in the bottom of the league in offense anymore. Martz does different exciting plays not boring ones like Hostler.
After listening to Martz’s conference call on the 49ers website I’m very glad we got him. He seems very set on Gore being the feature of the offense.
Chad is gettin old. I would be more pleased with Roy Willaims he is a big wide reciever that can stretch the field and he has played under Martz and would be used to the system. I also think we would have a legitament shot of getting him with his contract year coming up in Detroit they know he will not re-signe so why not get some veteran defensive players such as Walt Harris and Darek Smith plus a 5th or 6th round draft choice. I personoly feel this would be the better way to go for the 49ers and the situation that they are in. Also Chad is 30 and and Roy is only 26 so it also make more sens if you look at it that way.
Awful move. Mark my words. I am usually very optimistic in what the 49ers do in the offseason. And can you really blame me, or anybody else, for having a bad feeling about this hiring? Sure he’s done great with the Rams and had a tad bit of success with the Lions but really? Who the hell are we going to throw the ball to? To me, this is like digging our 6 foot hole about 3 feet deeper. Goodbye Frank, Goodbye Vernon. You won’t be used like you should be and I wouldn’t expect you to stay content with Martz’s offense. This is a sham. I knew Nolan would hire him as soon as I heard that he was getting an interview. Way to meticulously search for an OC Nolan, you fucked it all up again. I will agree he is better than Hostler, but really, who isn’t better than Hostler?
chad can go suk a nut and so can roy williams..larry fitzgerald is aboutta be on the trade block and we gotta grab em quick
mike martz wasnt my first choice either, i woulda rather had cam cameron whom i think suits r style of play and players more…but u cant complain with martz…proven offensive talent and will get the most outta the players…everyone swears like he never runs..faulk had top 5 finishes in yards when martz was there..dicktroit obviously doesnt have anyone to run the ball so he couldn’t there. Alex Smith ran a spread offense in college and is very accustomed to shotgun, which martz likes to use. In his system Jason Hill can easily be used as a az-zahir hakim speed burner like he used in st louis..we grab a WR like fitzgerald over the summer or draft a solid one, throw in VD and frank..we gotta solid offense. Martz isnt our savior, but im lookin at atleast 9-7 10-6
Good hire..
ey but how about bringin back MOOCH (mariucci) as QB’s coach..do itttt
Ryan the 1st-
You said this:
“I HIGHLY doubt that Nolan just said, “Hey, you know what? SCREW that guy Cam Cameron….I changed my mind…he’s an idiot!”
I say:
I would not doubt that Nolan would say that. Nolan is a pretentious asshole if you haven’t caught on to that yet. Who will be available for the HC job in 09? Another season down the drain.
At first, I wasn’t wild about hiring Martz, but I may be changing my mind. But, we need to make some moves in the offseason for WRs. That article about Bernard Berrian, yeah, sign him. I’m not so sure about the Chad Johnson trade rumors. Yes, he would do well in Martz’s style of offense. But, personally, I would prefer we go with a WR in the first round of the draft. Maybe trade up to make sure we get a good one. And, I have to agree that Lelie and Hill might work out in this offense. And, I would think that Martz will do what he can with Davis. And, it’s true that Martz can work magic with a talented RB (like he did with Faulk). Yeah, maybe this will work out. On a side note, I know a lot of people think Colt Brennan will be a bust. But, you have to admit that he would fit a Martz style offense pretty well…
I’m really hoping the offense picks up. I live in NJ, and rarely get to see the 49ers since they don’t play here much. Last 2 games I saw was in Philly on Monday night when they beat the Eagles, and on opening night Thursday when they squeaked past the Giants. I didn’t bother to go this season because I knew they were going to get their ass kicked. They are playing here again in 2008, so I’m planning on getting tickets.
I DON’T WANT DEREK SMITH WEARING A NINERS UNIFORM EVER AGAINT!!! Let me ask you something….DO YOU think he earned his 5.2 MILLION dollar contract this year? IF you said yes then you’re an idiot!!! Get him off the field and call Lance Briggs. Briggs will more no more than 6 million a year. I like Battle, but he isn’t our most talented receiver. He IS tough and IS a hard worker and IS NOT afraid to go across the middle. Until he gives me a 1000 yard season I am not completely sold on him. Plus, how long has he been given the chance to learn the receiver position. I’m not saying he isn’t talented, but I think Lelie and DJAX belong on the field before he does since they have SHOWN me that they can do it. I hope Battle proves me wrong, but until then…… Furthermore, can someone give me a source that we did indeed KEEP WARHOP….that is a HUGE MISTAKE!!! IF we are going to make a splash we better get some o linemen because I wouldn’t count on Larry Allen to come back and besides Staley…..none of these guys impressed me last year. Baas showed some signs of greatness, but he needs to be consistent.

Okay, this is a very good move. We signed one of the top two choices.
Like others have said. Now we need some receivers and an offensive line that will block long enough to get the boys downfield.
Martz is no dumby. Ask Marshall. He didn’t share MVP honors by not participating.
We need speed. And why not put VD in the slot and use Walker at Tight End? Walker proved his good hands when Hill was throwing.
Two speed receivers and two linemen.
Throw in a Briggs and a DL and we’re in business!
oh yeah…and I repeat…. VD, STOP PUFFING OUT YOUR CHEST AFTER ONE CATCH WHEN WE’RE DOWN BY 2 TOUCHDOWNS!!!!!!! Someone slap him upside the head to play with attitude and save the “Look at me, I’m great” until he strings together a bunch of good catches. Show us some consistency next year…it’s YOUR time….
I got two questions, they just fired two other coaches who do yall think they will replace them with and do yall think our defensive coordinator should go and mike singletary should get promoted so he won’t get taking by sombody else for a head coaching job?
