Gore: the “Centerpiece”

FNN Staff • January 9, 2008

During the conference with new offensive coordinator Mike Martz, he told the media that runningback Frank Gore is the key player in the offense and to build that offense around Frank is “exciting.”

Gore planned on spending the offseason back home in Florida, but after hearing that Martz was hired, Frank mentioned he’d be willing to stay in Santa Clara.

“I’ve got to be out there,” “Got a new offense to learn.”

Gore hasn’t spoken with Martz yet, but felt good about the hire after talking with Nolan.

“We just got to buy into it,” Gore said of the new offense. “Just listen to everything he says. I think it’s going to be fine.”

Gore has no problem being the “centerpiece.”

“I feel like I can do anything on the field,” “I think we’re going to be fine,” “I think we just need to come in and get better as a team. I know we are so much better than what we did last year.”

In other Niner News:

  • RB coach Bishop Harris and OL asst Mark Nori have been let go.
  • Ted Tollner will stay on staff as an assistant coach.

    It's all about respect.

I think these players can get behind Martz and his reputation.

Cameron was called out in the lockeroom and did nothing. That was my only worry about him.

Gore the "centerpiece of the offnese"? Genius… how long did it take him to figure that one out? Good to see that Gore's willing to stay back and work though… that guy is the man.

  3. sf49ers says:

we need to grab a good WR ieither thru Free agency or the draft, trade for Ocho cinco would be great

  4. trade for chad and draft hardy 2nd pick then were set

  5. Los Banos Jerry says:

offensive Line……no one will be open with our QB on his back.

  6. L says:

I like it.. Everyone thought he would ditch gore for the pass.. but gore can catch duh.. the only reason he abandoned the run in detriot was cause he had no running back.. Kevin Jones?? TJ Duckett?? I would ditch the run too with those craps… Gore is more like faulk than everyone thinks.. HE isnt as shifty but he has more size and breaking tackle ability.. This should be good.. Im just happy we wont be more conservative than mooch now.. we will be agressive to go along with our agressive D..

Who is our Offensive captain?Frank Should deffinatey be it.

  8. ninersgold says:

That would be huge for us frankgorefan21. Having a fast verteran and a huge rookie with hands that can catch anything. He would be known as James “Huge Sticky Hands” Hardy. Not stone hands.

  9. ninersgold says:

Yes we should be going after an offensive tackle (Gosder Cherilius), and go after another guard in free agency. (Alan Faneca) . That would be nice to have. Besides when we pass we should be in shotgun formation, that will give the QB 3-4 more seconds in the “pocket” that might not exsist. Still our offensive line should be better next year. With more experience Staley will be solid, Heitman should be fully recovered from that broken leg by next year (he didn’t seem like himself earlier this year), and with another offensive tackle (Draft Gosder Cherilius in first round or get Max Starks from free agency, he is young and is proven to be good with some experience with the Steelers.), we could be very solid. Hopefully since the assistant offensive line coach was fired, our o-line can be better, even with George Warhop. Alan Faneca would be a great replacement for Allen, but he is very old and starting to deteriorate as well. I think he is better at pass protection than Allen though.

  10. ninersgold says:

Geroge Warhop is actually a good offensive line coach… for only run blocking. He improves the run blocking a lot, he did that with Dallas as well. Unfortunately he is not good at improving pass protection. Oh he improved the Cardinals offensive line from giving up 78 sacks to 50 the next year, that’s not that great still. That’s it, his offensive lines allow 40-50 sacks a season, no better. Hopefully the new offensive line assistant coach will be specialized in pass protection and not just Run blocking, which is fine, but it would be nice to see just one QB play the entire year, and not four QBs.
