Douglas: ‘I Don’t Want to Hit the Market’

Jan 15, 2008 102 Comments by FNN Staff

Unrestricted free agent Marques Douglas has made it known. He doesn’t want to hit the free agent market and wants to return to the 49ers.

“But I just wanted to let them know when I left Santa Clara that if they would have me, I’d love to be back. I just wanted to put an end any rumors that I was seeking other employment or I wanted to go back home, because that’s not true. I have roots out there now, in Santa Clara and San Jose. My family really loves it there. From my programs with the detention center to other various things I’m into. I love it out there.”

Good/bad news. We will not be able to see Will Franklin play due to injury, which is good because this means his draft stock is going to fall down to 4th-5th round, instead of early 3rd-4th pick. But I really wanted to see what he could do. Hopefully the Niners pick him up in the fourth or fifth rounds (hopefully fifth)

I think the third Qb that might compete to start will be Colt Brennan. If he drops to the fourth round I think the Niners will take him. I think McNolan thinks he is worth second round-third round talent. So we might see us waste our third pick on him .(hopefully not), but he may fit perfectly in Martz’s offense, with a quick release, and a pro offensive line that is still improving, Colt Brennan could to pretty well. I’m not in favor of him, but I think it will happen, we have picked a spread offense QB before (Alex Smith), but our new offense will probaly fit them now. We will see. Colt looks more accurate and has a stronger arm than Smith, and Colt’s release is like lightning. If he is available in the fourth we shoiuld take him, I guess. He wouldn’t be a bust, cause we wouldn’t have wasted our high pick on him. I’m still afraid he will suck though.

not signing douglass would end up not just being a huge mistake but would also set us back on developing our 3-4 d. it doesnt matter how old he is, if he can still play then let him play.
