Niners Win Despite Nolan
Shaun Hill improves to 1-0 for his career. The 49ers are 10-1 when Frank carries 20+. But all of that was almost for nothing, when head coach Mike Nolan went for it on 4th and 2 with around 6 minutes left. I’m still wondering what the hell Nolan was thinking, he kicks a FG there and they are up by two scores. It’s not like the kicker has been struggling. Nedney is 27 for 27 inside 50 yards. Thankfully the defense stopped the Bengals when they needed to to preserve the win.
The question everyone will ask moving forward now is do we have ourselves a quarterback controversy?

Don't miss any of the action this year at the SBG Global
well niner junkie… you don’t remember correctly because smith completed much more than 20% of his passes and actually made perfect throws that would have added a TD to his stats had darrell jackson not dropped one and arnaz battle not fumbled the other. all the smith haters are ridiculous. this has been a terrible season, but blaming it on a quarterback that went 2-1 before he was injured is just dumb. and even worse is to annoint shaun hill as the next jeff garcia. he’s good, but that is pretty much as good as we’ll see out of him. next week is a perfect chance to compare the two.
well Big M, why dont you read this an then tell me Im playing Madden…seems to me I speak the Truth an that your boy Alex is in deep Shit but dont worry you can still play with him on this years Madden but not Next years hahaha unless you sub him in off the bench!
a report on foxports.com that stated that “(t)here is a good chance that the 49ers won’t pay (Alex) Smith his $8 million option bonus next March, one that would secure seasons for the 2009-10 seasons.”
Well, the 49ers do have a financial decision to make concerning Alex Smith in the offseason, but it might not be as ominous as reported.
Here’s the deal: Nothing has changed in Alex Smith’s contract since it was signed Aug. 28, 2005.
The money that could be coming Smith’s way in the offseason is actually a “buyback,” not an option bonus. And the way the 49ers get out of the final two years of that deal is by paying Smith $8 million.

Here are 2 more reasons why Nolan is a poor evaluator of talent.
Andre Carter and Julian Peterson are let go and now are have great seasons under Washington and Seattle.
With “BY” retiring after this year and taking his team leading 6.5 sacks with him, it would be nice to have Carter’s 10.5 and Peterson’s 9 sacks on our D.
Thanks Nolan…NOT!!!
Sorry, Alex haters, Smith is owed way too much money. No one else is going to trade for him and the Niners aren’t going to take the cap hit to release him and get nothing back. He was 2-1 this year before his shoulder got separated. This lousy season belongs to Nolan and Dilfer. Nolan rushed an injured player back too fast and then played a washed-up Dilfer instead of recognizing the talent on the end of the bench.
If the Niners are smart enough to sign Hill, he’ll be around to compete against Smith (and hopefully someone else comes in, too), but Smith isn’t going anywhere.
So Denise is talking about bringing in a general manager? How about bringing in someone to make gameday decisions and coach the offense? Mike Nolan has proven as a head coach that he’s a good defensive coordinator.
yeah i was pretty pissed when we let peterson go…now he mocks us with the back of his jersey every time we play him….imagine if we would of had willis lawson and peterson….we wouldnt even really need to run 3-4
True Niner Fan… that report was investigated by Matt Maiocco, who is actually with the team pretty much every day, and it was found to be erroneous. No matter how they do it, they owe him more cash than any of us will ever see in our lifetimes.
We didn’t keep Peterson because he was coming off an ACL injury from the previous year and he wanted too much money. Yes, he’d doing really well in Seattle, but Manny Lawson fills the void he left. They are both Strong Side 3-4 OLBs. I personally like Lawson a lot better than Peterson at this point and I don’t see him as the type of guy who will put this franchise in a fincancial predicament. Andre Carter is another guy who wanted too mucuh money and he got paid too much money. He didn’t fit our scheme anyways. I think Lawson and Haralson will be a better outside duo than Peterson and Carter would have been. 99 and 98 haven’t even come close to reaching their potentials yet. And Jay Moore is a promising prospect waiting in the wings, when he comes back from injury.
u kno wat we all should be worried about?our draft pick which is goin to the Pats.man patriots shud jus trade that pick back to us, they will be even more good with another good player ,they already have a team, a good one for next 5 yrs probably..i’m looking forward to the offseason, niners better sign some good FA and get a OC ,one who is cappable of play calling and can rejuvanate this team also lock him up for good some yrs ..Mr Nolan..i’m tied of this changes of OC every yr..Nolan shud use his damn brian..he shud want the better of his team not other teams.look at McCarthy in Greenbay(playoff bound 1-2 seed maybe) and Norv Turner san diego(playoff bound),thats one of the biggest reason this offense has struggled and especially Alex.
ill tell everyone the number one reason why nolan should stay at least another 2 years. THE PLAYERS TRUST HIM. not one player other than the great alex smith has said one bad thing about nolan and obviously they trust nolan a lot more than smith, and the way the last 2 games went, it looks like they trust shaun hill more than they trust smith, so i think we need to trade smith for a towel boy to wipe all the sweat off our new starting quarterbacks face
How many more games dose Smith need to start busting it out? I have news for you Smith lovers he has had three seasons and has consistently produces average numbers. Look at the other QB in NFL in the first season do extremly well (Romo, Jackson, Big Ben, etc..) the list goes on and on… As for Nolan “Players trust him” if you say so??…The Niners cannot pass up Marty Schottenheimer or Bill Cower if avaliable. Nolan had his chance he hired Hos in the first place you should take responsibility for that!
Yeah Smith FN sucks, these ppl here dont get it tho, doesnt matter, he’s done. We wont be seeing him starting any more Niners games you can take that to the bank.
Smith is a sub par to average qb much like a kerry collins IMO. He’ll be in the league for a long time, but he wont be starting anywhere thats for sure.
kerry collins took the Giants to the Super Bowl, but well they lost.Thing with alex is,we have a lot of money invested in him(5yr/47 million ,so we have to keep him around couple more yrs..his struggles are due to his poor mechanics..he has improve his mechanic(which i dont kno how he will)and bring his A game if he has any shot to be the Starting QB for the niners next season.
The future of Alex Smith and of Shaun Hill *alex smith was ending as David Car or as Joey Harrington *Shaun Hill was ending com Tom Brady or as Tony Romo
Samra, I know this is a dumb argument, which means I shouldn’t write anything at all but, check out the 2000 draft: Carmazzi in the 3rd. Rattay in the 7th. And, I wasn’t being literal, what I meant was the organization picked 2 QB’s instead of him, and he was upset.
